Probably HL2 wins that one for me.

Even though I think being scared of a game is pretty stupid, I can understand it for HL2 having that nighttime city (Ravenholme?) and Doom 3 for being dark overall. But the original Half-Life?

System Shock 2 also gave me a number of jumps.

Meh, that game was all shock factor. Forever spawning zombies shooting shotguns when you least expect it may make you jump, but only because you aren't expecting it.

Silent Hill was scary because you're just walking around this empty foggy town, and then all of the sudden after a cutscene it's nighttime and everything has blood all over it and you can't see sh*t and everything's trying to attack you. Not to mention the radio... man that friggin' radio...

This doesn't look that scary

11th Hour scared me when I first played it (when I was 12). Recently, F.E.A.R. and Condemned have freaked me out. Condemned really took advantage of my deathly fear of the dark, which is why I stopped playing after 30 minutes.

Probably Doom 3 with 5.1 sound at 3AM. Not the best game ever, but it scared the crap outta me a couple times.

Everyone has either made a joke post or thinks that FEAR, Doom 3, System Shock 2, or Silent Hill are the scariest games.

I haven't played FEAR yet, but those others aren't scary at all.

No, I take that back. Doom 3 was scary - scary RETARDED

Doom 3 scared the living daylights out of me.
I still have the demo on this computer, I may have deleted it cause I knew I wasn't gonna play it more.

Half Life - After the teleportation disaster at the beginning of the game you saw how severly damaged everything was when you passed through it earlier. The first encounter with headcrabs, zombied scientists, the dogs, the underwater things, the big Chthulu looking monster in the pit... Creeped me out hardcore.

Oh, and any FPS where you fall a REALLY long way - Ex: Dark Forces - When doing the 'dew (at the time, the scream your character let out sounded like the scream one of the parachuters let out in that Mountain Dew comercial.)

That place was awesome. One of the best done scary pieces of any game I've ever seen.

Doom 3 in a darkened room with loud, high quality audio can be unnerving. My mate would scream like a girl as per those videos that went around

Glad to see one vote for Undying. There's a point where your walk from a room into a hallway. There's a dead end on the left with mirror on the wall, or you can continue down the hall to the right. Well, like everyone, you always have to go check yourself out in the mirror when you see one in the game, so after you walk up, there's a flash of lightning and a CREEPY HUGE MONSTER RIGHT BEHIND YOU! You turn around and there's nothing there... Good stuff! :)

Doom 3. Come on. I would come back from class, and there would be some light. I would IM and then switch to DOom 3. It got dark soon enough and I was too lazy to turn on the lights, and since I didn't want to disturb my other apartmentmates, I would play with headphones. FVCKING SCARY in the dark.... I think that game is just too intense. like you gotta check every corner to make sure you don't get spooked.
