What would motivate you to switch back to IE?

Short of every other brower disintegrating into thin air and a mob of angry chimpanzees forcing me at knifepoint.... nothing.

What would motivate you to switch back to IE?

Microsoft getting indited for unfair business practices, and then the main office in Redmond gets hit with a meteorite. Why do you ask?

even though firefox has been good to me, the addition of tabbed browsing would probably turn me back. i've always liked ie's speed and compatibility

Waiting for PM CheapArse.

Maybe you want the frozen pizza instead. I have one in the freezer.....I cant guarantee it will be frozen when you get it.

Is it just me, or does FF not have a "show image" function in the right click menu? How lame, the "view image" function opens in a new tab...not the same.

What would make me switch? Nothing in particular right now. Here are the differences I see between FF and IE:

1) Tabbed browsing (including the "open in tabs" option for bookmark folders)
2) Buit-in, configurable search box
3) Extensions, particularly AdBlock, BugMeNot, WebDeveloper, and WeatherFox
4) FF offers better support for modern web standards (CSS2, especially :hover)
5) FF is more secure *out of the box* than IE, due to the focus of hackers and @#$! ActiveX
6) Microsoft goes nowhere without competition. The only reason IE was updated in XP SP2 was because of Mozilla/Firefox (ok, and maybe Opera, but I still don't know anyone who uses it). The next planned update for IE was *Longhorn*. When tabs make it to IE, you can thank the non-MS browsers again.
7) Firefox works on far more platforms than IE. Keeping the web an open system and not an extension of Windows is a good thing.
8) 'Find' built into the bottom of the browser window, rather than appearing in a separate one
9) Better favicon.ico support .. somewhat ironic, actually
10) Don't have to upgrade my OS to get the latest features (no IE upgrades for Win2k other than security)

Not that FF doesn't have its downsides:
1) Longer apparent load time (if Windows didn't automatically load IE on boot, you'd have to wait for it too)
2) Plug-in support is sometimes ... amusing
3) Glitches when viewing sites designed only for IE (and IE exclusive sites)

I'd love to be L33+ and all that but neither Firefox nor Mozilla display images properly on too many websites.

Plus with IE offering up such nice pop-up blocking it's hard for me to be another clueless Microsoft basher.... if I was that lame I would just run Linux and whatever the geeks say is the best browser and would still probably have issues I don't have to deal with.

:)

In an effort to get the discussion back on topic:
I dont really care about all the cute little features like tabs. Just get rid of ActiveX completetly. No web site really NEEDS this. You can have web-based shopping without it. The WWW worked just fine before ActiveX was auto-downloading and installing crap for me. If I want junk integrated into Windows or IE, I'll let them know about it.
Would also be nice if the web browser was completetly seperate from the file browser. But since Linux has been using dual purpose programs for a long time, I think the problem circles back to ActiveX. Would also like more control over how Java handles stuff.

NO WAY! ActiveX is one of the best features of IE (even if dumbasses get spyware by installing unsigned ActiveX controls). Fast, configuration-free plugins that just work. Remote Web Workplace's RDP connection is amazing. WebEx's customer support portal is one of the best remote admin setups that requires no client config. There are literally hundreds of others, those are two that I use daily. And if you say what about Java plugins, I'll smack you. :p

IE is my preferred browser.

* Never got spyware.
* Never got adware.
* Never got popups.
* Firefox cannot beat IE's launch speed.
* IE loads webpages faster for me.
* IE renders code better for me.

1) You are either really lucky or your spyware removal program is really crap
2) Same as 1
3) There is an option in sp2, don't thank IE for that one
4) That is because firefox is not preloaded during windows startup. IE is. That is why IE is also so much more dangerous to use (security anyone?)
5) which pages? have you timed this?
6) don't blame firefox, blame lazy programmers who can't code well. this has NOTHING to do with firefox.

1) Don't click Yes on every pop-up message, problem solved.
2) Same as #1
3) I shouldn't thank IE because it is an option in SP2? Wow, good job as sounding like an idiot.
4) I don't care about Firefox's preload... the simple truth is IE launches faster.
5) I don't have to time this, I can see it with my own eyes, I'm not retarded.
6) IE renders my own WSS-checked better for me, Firefox messes it up.

1) firefox does this by default, I didn't even have to click yes
2) See answer 1
3) You made it sound like it was an option in IE, which it isn't. i'm the idiot? lol
4) Simple truth is that IE is being preloaded and is highly intergrated in your OS. And that's a really BAD thing. (you don't care about security? that's your choice)
5) so you assume something you haven't verified as a fact, and make it sound as if it's a fact. resisting to comment. really I am
6) Firefox follows W3C standards, IE does not. Not Firefox's fault that Microsoft is trying to define what the internet standards are. Again, lazy programmers are at fault.

I'm still waiting for a valid reason here.

1. And this is good, why? At least I get to make the choice.
2. See 1
3. What the hell are you talking about? IE with SP2, yes, an option in IE w/ SP2.
4. I care about security and in my 10+ years of use, neither Windows nor IE let me down. Also, point out some of the really bad things about IE being integrated to the OS. Tell me how this will affect my security vulnerabilities and show me a couple examples of this.
5. Again, I'm not an idiot. Just put the timer on my page: http://www.xiety.com and IE loads it faster and (in correct way) everytime I referesh it.
6. I guess you didn't read my answer to #6 above. Too bad.

1) only the inept blame IE for spyware. I'm trying to be nice when I say inept.
2) are you one of them?
3) both IE & FF don't block 100% of popups, PERIOD. It's a damn tie
4) if FF had an O/S, it would be preloaded and loading up faster than IE
5) milliseconds don't count. If your PC or connection is so slow that you actually can tell a difference, you still need to get a life and stop trying to measure that difference
6) everyone programs with IE in mind. Even if FF was .1% more compliant, wtf would anyone care when 99.9% of the web page programmers don't?

#7) tabbed browsers and other features are the gayest reasons for anyone to switch to FF or any other browser. That should be the LAST thing you care about. What is IE made the BEST download manager ever created? OH, would that make it the best browser then?!?! Give me a break
#8) FF is a fine alternative. Better than opera ever was (and I'm a huge fan of opera). If they can stay afloat, it'll only improve everyone's browsing experience with healthy competition

Maxthon, only thing I dont like about it is since it uses IE engine it sometimes has that bug where it saves the image as bitmap...
