I surf everyday. I've always used IE. Still have yet to be sent to a website that loads spyware on my machine against my will.

My challenge still stands...

I think there are some serious PEBKAC problems with all the FF fanboys ranting against IE's security :p

I've had ONE virus on this computer since I built it (2+ years ago). I used to surf every day with IE. Guess what, that's not where it came from. Horribly infested computer hooked up to the LAN from when a friend came over to play.

I think it's been proven pretty well now that IE is perfectly fine and it's really just the opinion of the user.

So fanboys need to stop talking...

I would go back to IE if thay made it
1) better than Firefox.
and 2) run on more platforms.

I like the idea of using the same browsur on all my different boxes, unless a Linux version of MSIE comes out, I won't switch to it.

wow, i guess being "Elite" keeps all the dumbass trolls of your back eh? I want one too! :p I say the same thing and I get jumped in less than 10 minutes.

Most of the trolls remember my challenge:

Send me to a website that puts spyware on my system without my knowledge or approval.

No one has been able to do this. Why? Because if your security settings in IE are correct, you MUST click OK to a prompt to get spyware on your system.

I could do that very readily back in the day, but since I stopped using IE for stuff, I've gradually forgotten all the slums to avoid. IE did get significantly better in the months leading up to FF's rise, though. Back in IE5, there were enough exploits to fill a HDD with spyware in 30 freaking seconds in some corners of the internet. I honestly don't know (and don't care to know) if IE is secure now, I have a system that works for me, and I'll keep using it until it becomes a target of opportunity for the malware companies, and then I'll shift again.

As for the rendering differences between IE and FF, CSS is apparently the shittiest specification ever, no two browsers render it alike. Hell, different versions of IE don't always render alike. That's the only place they differ.

And what exactly is a 'mouse gesture' and why do I get the idea that it's something totally fvcking worthlss?

I've been using IE since, well, since there was IE, and like I said, I have never had spyware loaded on my system without my approval. I have also never had a virus.

IE's safety has always relied on two things. Common sense and the correct security settings.

Hell, my 75 year old mother has used IE for years now, and she has never had spyware or a virus either.

WTF is PEBKAC?

I used to tell jokes about PIBKACs... still do... never heard of PEBKACs though.

Firefox ~.134
IE ~ .135
Opera ~.133

For me.. Web standards compliant, ability to override default colors to black background while keeping the menus on sites like frozencpu intact, and the ability to uninstall it.

Oh wait, that already happened, and I switched back.

I will always be IE's bitch, I cannot lie. I tried Firefox once, and remembered using it way back when when they called it Netscape Navigator. I used it for a day, found nothing it gave me over IE, and went back to IE.

You should ask me what would motivate me to switch to FF.

i believe google is coming out with a browser in the near future. lets see how many of you guys jump on it.

I think it is odd that Microsoft did not add tabbed browsing earlier. If anyone has ever used the Visual Studio.NET development IDEs they would know that it uses tabs to display things like the code your are working on, help files, forms, etc....but it is also has a web browser built in which most likely is using IE's rendering engine. With this you can open up multiple tabs just like Firefox. So you can have tabbed browsing in IE but it will cost you $1,000 for the software to do it :).

If it's better than my beloved Opera, I'll jump ship.

I won't get it simply because it's google made though.

Just like I didn't dump IE for FF just because IE was made my Microsoft.

Unlike most people, I need REASONS to abandon something.
