Hi. My current setup is this:
i5 6500
GTX MSI 1070 8gb
MSI B150M
Ram 16gb
Corsair RM550x
SSD 850 evo

I would like find out what would give me the best performance upgrade for 1440p at 144hz. I assume it would be 1080ti? Do I have to go for i5 8600k as with 1080ti my current cpu would become bottleneck? Thanks all

1080ti or whatever graphics card is coming from Nvidia real soon now. (Could be months away.)

CPU upgrades depend on the games you play. A (potentially used) 7700 would be a guaranteed drop-in upgrade (potentially requiring a BIOS update.) If you play games that can use more cores, there are persistent rumors about an 8 core Intel processor coming soon.

Well, I'm also asking you to tell us about what games you're playing. They might not need quite that much power.

Games I play the most are Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Path of Exile, WoW. Occasionally I play some single player games such as Witcher 3, Fallout 4, DOOM, XCOM 2, GTA 5. So in all is a mixture :)

Hey, I found a useful benchmark for you:

https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3009-amd-r7-1700-vs-i7-7700k-144hz-gaming

I tend to lean toward upgrading to the i7 7700. But that is a lot of games, and I might have missed one that uses more cores. I feel pretty secure buying non-overclocking Intel CPUs used. But if you have a lot of money to throw at gaming, you might as well wait and see what Intel comes out with for a newer platform.

I guess I will wait for now. After all, it has been 2 years since latest GPUs. One quick question about G-sync. If I plan to push for the best (or next best) next gen GPU and possibly CPU is it worth to get a screen with G-sync? G-sync ads input lag right?

good luck with WoW...

not even a titan V in SLI with intel's cheatware 28core 5ghz PC will save you @ 1440p @ 144hz in a full on world event raid @ ultra settings.

I understand that WOW is really difficult to get high fps but if I turned down some settings I think it would be fine. And still even if I could not get 144 even 100+ is still alright.
