I took my son and nephew to see it over the weekend, and "Everything was Awesome!!!"

A lot of ATOTers are so cynical this is their response to every new movie.

There is absolutely no way that movie is better than Frozen. And RT scores for these kinds of movies usually go down over time as people other than die hard fanboys decide to go.

I frankly didn't care for Frozen. The animation and artwork was breathtaking and worth the price of admission, but the story and the characters were not that strong IMO. In the first five or ten minutes,
the little girl loses both parents and her sister can't come near her.

I thought it was a fun movie overall, but I was a little bummed to see that a good deal of the good adult references (or ones that we'd probably get) were used in the trailer. As for the spoiler stuff people have been talking about,
I kind of liked it. It was a nice change of pace and it tied in fairly well. Frankly, I wasn't taken out because I knew that's where the story was going once Emmet jumped down toward the nether as it's the only thing that made sense.

Another thing... I don't think this is a spoiler, but since it's about the overall tone, I'll tag it anyway...
I found this movie to be amusingly anti-Lego. The whole "stop following plans and use your imagination" is COMPLETELY against everything Lego does now with having a billion sets where all you're supposed to do is follow the instructions and be done with it. Did the Lego Group even read the script?

Aikouka: re: second spoiler tag. I'm sorry you feel that way about LEGO. LEGO is very much about creating, not just pounding out projects while following directions. My kids have about 25lb's of LEGO's that they are free to build whatever they want with. These LEGO's are from the late 80's and the 90's, and still provide countless hours of entertainment for my boys.

Keep in mind that what I said doesn't reflect my thoughts on how I would use LEGOs. I'm mostly referring to how the big push seems to be toward buying packaged sets where the idea isn't to use your imagination but to follow the instructions. Although, to be fair, that's probably the smart move for the health of the company. I mean... there are only so many huge tubs of LEGOs that you can sell to a kid. :p

All those 25lb's are sets :)

I do like the "modular build" idea LEGO came up with. It makes building the bigger sets way more organized, which is great for young kids. It gives them a nice stopping point, and easy to pick up and keep building later.

It may be a helter-skelter kiddie adventure built out of plastic toy components, but it's fast and original, it's conceptually audacious, it's visually astonishing, and it's 10 times more clever and smart and funny than it needed to be. Here, at last, is an animated comedy that never stops surprising you.

It sounds like a kid flick for adults, too, imagine that.

The only real change in Lego sets from when I was a kid is that licensed brands are pretty heavy right now. The space, pirates, city, castle, etc. sets today are roughly the same as the sets when I was a kid. The models themselves aren't built much differently but maybe a bit more detailed and that's why they looked more polished. They don't have any more weirder pieces and they actually cut back on unique pieces after they almost went bankrupt. They also have what essentially is an adult line including a $400 Death Star, a bunch of $150 town buildings, and a $330 Sydney Opera House.

They still make Technic and Creator (3 in 1 set with basic Lego bricks) sets even though no one buys them and both lines are much cooler than when I was a kid. The Creator line wasn't around but those types of models are what people think of as generic Lego sets. Not many people even buy the castle or space sets anymore. Lego did/does have a hit with Ninjago but that was their biggest hit since Bionicle outside of licensed sets. Lego does a lot to continue their "traditional" building style and probably not making much money doing that. Kids are going to want what they want, and build how they build. I still would rather have a kid play with a Lego X-Wing than most of the other toys out there.

Jesus, this movie just looks all kinds of terrible. I'd rather take my kid to see Frozen again.

In the trailer, they were talking about the character not having a single original thought of his own... was that meant to be a reflection of the originality exhibited in the trailer? It was a string of pop culture references and over-used plot lines!

This movie is brainwashing our kids to be anti-business. DON'T TAKE YOUR KIDS!

The news presenter needs to ask why the head of a corporation would be an easy choice as a villain... riiigh-t

Took my 5 year old to see this the other day. We both thought it was awesome. We've both been randomly shouting
Spaceship
to each other ever since.

The LEGO Movie has a more interesting conversation about society and culture than Her does.
The Lego movie I guess does talk about gentrification, conformity, consumerism, a police state society, and a government run by a single corporation...holy shit, I guess it is a subversive movie to brainwash our children.

I really enjoyed Her though. I thought it addressed people replacing human contact with computers in a very open sort of way without trying to preach about the "loss of humanity" or something stupid like that. It's a movie I'd love to see in a group and then talk for a bit afterwards about it to get everyone's perspective. I thought Theodore's love was real for Samantha but was not ideal because Samantha could not love him back in the same way. It was not perfect, but his relationship with his ex-wife was not perfect as well. Anyway...

Ladies and Gentlemen....introducing BILL O'REILLY TO THE FORUMS!

Welcome Bill!
I really took him posting the link as a joke. If he really believes that....just sad...
