Grand Prix Legends
Front Page Sports Baseball Pro 98
Unreal Tournament
Tribes

Its been a long time since I played PC games, but those first two I remember dumping a TON of time into. Back before fantasy sports were big(or that we knew about them), my friend and I would literally play 24 hour straight sessions of FPSBB each managing our baseball teams on my single computer!
UT was the greatest arena shooter ever made and Tribes' jetpacks rocked my socks.

I need an APC pickup!

EverQuest - still my favorite MMO to date. I haven't been able to enjoy any since.

Diablo 2 - a great ARPG experience that was really addicting (in shorter bursts than EQ)

Morrowind - I bought it on Xbox first, and then got the PC version when I read about all the modding capabilities. An amazing game.

Freespace 2 - I'll just say that I think this genre needs a revival.

I hate to say it, but I just don't know. Maybe Zelda and SMB? They marked a heavy turning point in gaming for me. I can't think of any other games I simply just kept playing over and over. I am not really one to play the same game over and over after I've finished it.

I played Eve for 4 years, but I really don't think that counts because that's how that game was meant to be played.

I played League of Legends for over 2 years, but again...

There's been plenty of games that wow'd me over the years, but nothing I felt i had to keep returning to, there are too many other options to explore.

I lost interest in SWG because it took all of 30 minutes to max out a creature handler with a bug I submitted in beta, but they never fixed.

Then, I picked up one of the markers denoting a PVP zone, and carried it back to my house and placed it inside. That pretty much denied access to a huge area around my house for me and many many others because it went active like a match was in progress and wouldn't let new people in.

After that, I decided the game was a rushed out buggy mess and never touched it again.

It is still by far the most complicated video game ever made. They shot for the moon and ended up hitting the sun, the ride there was fun though. What other game can you choose pretty much any spot you want to build a house that was built by another human player who used resources mined by another player who mind those resources by searching the planets for places to put his harvester that was built by another player. Every other game crafting is lame and the economy is artificially based on things you buy in game. Unfortunately that also made it incredibly complicated, buggy and impossible to fix. Especially since the entire time people were demanding bug fixes they were instead working on fixing combat which no one even really thought was broken.

My mount rushmore:

Half Life
Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Diablo 2
Warcraft 3

Oddly enough, it was probably Sierra's "The Adventures of Willy Beamish", it's a point and click game i played back in HS, for whatever reason i was determined to see everything in that game to the end and choose every option getting there, i spent way too many hours playing that one and probably replayed it more than i could count. Took me a long time to realize that any optional dialogue or time event either took me to the bad ending quickly or had no effect on the outcome whatsoever. As i played it, i kept thinking maybe i could go here or there if i do or say something different but alas, no, it was actually a pretty linear game with the illusion of a more open style.

My others were not on PC but arcades. I think both Ninja Gaiden and TMNT were a Mount Rushmore for me simply because of gameplay and was impressed with the animated intro scenes unlike i had ever seen before. Large, well detailed characters, brisk pacing..etc. TMNT definitely captured the cartoon very well. I still play them both on emulators every now and then.

I loved Willie Beamish. Also "The Dagger of Amon Ra" from Sierra was incredible.

There was a woman I'd seen occassionally I hadn't seen in a long time. She invited me over.

She showed me she had dagger of amon ra on her pc. I couldn't tear myself away from it and played it while she sat in the next room instead of the more romantic plans.

I never saw her again.

In no particular order....

Ultima Online 1997-1999 (Pre Trammel)
Counterstrike (Original)
Master of Orion (1 and 2)
Xcom UFO Defense

Perhaps all of these are just due to remembering things as being better then they actually were.... I just feel like when I think about the games of similar genre's today none of them match up to how awesome I remember these originals being.

Same is true for console games for me tho... the first Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior on NES are remembered as being so much more awesome then they probably really were... lol

Just replay them and find out. I love old games, i play a lot of the 8 and 16bit era games all the time, they definitely were awesome.

1 - Homeworld. That game just sucked you in and made you feel for the people of Kharak and the pitiful few who survived the genocide. And their struggle to find and reclaim the world of their ancestors. Homeworld proves the power of a well told story vs the games of today which seem to rely solely on graphics glitz to sell themselves.

2 - Half-Life. 'nuff said.

3 - Interstate 76. A fun game with very solid voice acting and the best themed soundtrack of any video game. EVER.

4 - Mechwarrior 2: Titanium Trilogy - Don't know why, but that one keeps sticking out in my mind. It was a lot of fun and made me a fan of large, human controlled robots.

My god, did no one else spend hours printing out and marking up a star map? Immediately visit Alpha Centauri and lose landers to upgrade the fuel tanks, engines, and turn jets to outrun those damn probes?

Star Control II
Mechwarrior II (though I was horrible at it)
Wing Commander: Privateer

Ooh, Interstate 76 was AWESOME.

1. Deus Ex
Back when everybody was playing Halo on the just released Xbox I immersed myself into Deus Ex. God how I miss those days in the dorm room playing it by myself on my then state of the art windows 98 pc.

2. Half-Life 1. There's something about the original half-life 1 that I can't put my finger on that makes me enjoy it so much. If I'm bored I reinstall from my disks and play it.

3. Red Alert 2. God damn that was fun. My favorite missions were the nomad missions where you didn't build a base or didn't have too. So many cheaters online though. Especially Yuri's revenge.

4. Battlefield 2. Best damn FPS game ever. Take Grand Theft Auto, Give it an online component, put it in first person, add a bit of teamwork, And boom! Best damn FPS game to date. Oh god so many memories, Jet battles on Wake, Oman and Sharqi, Tank warfare, Drivebys and flybys, Karkand IO, Ghost Town, Warlord, Black Hawk superiority, Dropping C4, Claymores, and AT Mines with your squad from 2000m up. Shooting down jets and choppers as a tank gunner. The list goes on.

Tis a shame BF3 turned out to be such a piece of shit though.
