Billy Joel's "My Life" is a perfect example of the worst kind of music I can imagine. I'd rather listen to rap, country, emo, or polka. Pianos are for classical, jazz, etc, or minimal rock use. The driving force should be the guitar.

I could not disagree more. It is all subjective.

/me puts Billy Joel's "My Life" on the list to download soonish. Sounds like a great song. ;)

The worst music, IMO? Rap. I'd almost rather go deaf than ever have to listen to it. Ever.

I would consider him more pop. I find him 100x more listenable than Billy Joel.

(C)rap and R&B are definitely the worst in my mind.

I find so much of it glamourizes violence, drugs, whores, etc.... I know most of these people grew up with this so they sing about what they know but come on, there are enough troubled kids out there without you influencing more!

Each song should be rated in a vacuum of whether it is good or not based on personal preference. The genre that it is categorized in is irrelevant to whether it is good or bad.

People saying rap probably only know the crap from the radio/MTV/Cribs or whatever. There is a lot of quality rap/hip-hop out there.

That's pretty much how I approach music.

Traditional Japanese shamisen music. Three strings playing some of the most boring melodies I've ever heard over and over with virtually no variation. The West certainly hit the bullseye where music is concerned.

I usually don't. There is decent stuff out there to listen to in pretty much any genre, but to me it is not worth digging through the shit surrounding the diamond, if you will.
