Think of House / Trance music and double the BPM. Next add some chipmunk sounding chick singing lovey / baby lyrics over it. Add some cheesy synths and you got your happy hardcore.

easy listening crap, like Barry Manilow and the Carpenters.

All but 2 songs from Bjork as well. I believe it's called lo-fi, but when someone gets on a synthesizer and just makes weird sounds and calls it music.

I pretty much listen to all genres, but can't stand these.

That sounds really interesting. What are the names of some happy hardcore groups/bands/whatevers?

The kind of music I can do without is "speed" metal, that shit where some guy deepthroats the mic and screams nonsense into it, and "gangsta" rap.

I go by the 95/95 rule. 95% of the music made after 1995 is pure crap. Include in that figure all rap, hip-hop, and anything else that requires a huge bass beat for the morons listening to it to figure out the beat.

99% of music created sucks. I highly doubt that I'd buy or listen to 1 out of every 100 albums produced.

There are still good bands and albums. They aren't going to walk up to you and say "listen to me". For a lot of people, it mattered more when they were 18-25 years old.

I'm 32 now and I have a hard time finding new music that I like. Its not because there is less good music. I think, to me, that it's because I don't go to as many shows or buy as many CDs as I used to.

This is the only right answer. J-Pop, they call it?

I don't really know the difference between trance, trip-hop, techno, happy hardcore, electronica and whatever the major subgenres of electrotechnodancemagic are. But there's this one particular type of sound that makes me want to drive nails in my ear drums. Hyper fast, hyper loud, hyper repetitive - hyper fail.

Country music by far. the worst was this beloved patriot Tonk Badonka-Donk song by some dude... Trace Adkins or something, it was a country dude trying to do rap or something. It's bizarre and really horrible, I saw the video on CMT and thought it had to be a joke, but I googled it and apparently this dude is real and the song isn't a parody. The video is hilarious in a scary ass way.

linky to video

but it does prove Rap is probably the most influential music ever.

I find so much of it glamourizes violence, drugs, whores, etc.... I know most of these people grew up with this so they sing about what they know but come on, there are enough troubled kids out there without you influencing more!

I've never really liked heavy metal, but I'm sure someone can find one or two songs that I'd enjoy.

I think the blanket statements that are made in this thread are silly. I bet if the majority of people just gave a certain genre a chance, they could find at least a few songs they like. Outside of heavy metal, there isn't a genre I haven't found some appreciation for.

For example, most people hate rap here, but have you ever listened to Common or Atmosphere? Specifically, I like Atmosphere - Always Coming Back Home to You (AND the bonus track at the end) and The Corner or Be off of Common's album Be.

*shrug* In general, people could be more open to liking a wider variety of music, though that isn't to say that everybody falls into the same boat. I bet there are a lot of people on this board who have given different types of music legitimate chances and decided they don't like it, I just don't think the majority has done that.
