I find so much of it glamourizes violence, drugs, whores, etc.... I know most of these people grew up with this so they sing about what they know but come on, there are enough troubled kids out there without you influencing more!

I'm so glad that no other genre glorifies any negative parts of life. Can you imagine if artists like Jimi Hendrix or Johnny Cash or the Beatles ever sang about drugs? My God, everyone in the world would do them! Or how about if Marilyn Manson sang (well, screamed) lyrics that involved violence... we'd have school shootings every day! And thank God no one ever made a song about the House of the Rising Sun... every girl in America would become a whore overnight!

No, you're absolutely right, artists should never say anything remotely offensive for fear of traumatizing children who aren't even their intended audience... Brilliant.

what are some emo bands? ive talked with my kids about what bands are emo and not, but even they cant really nail more than 3 or 4 to a list...

i dont hate any kinds of music, ive even found some bluegrass i like. i generally listen to ska/ punk most of the time, but ive been known to listen to heavy metal, rock, hip hop, blues and some rap. house/ tekno i like as well, even if it is repetitive. i like the beat, and on a ood stereo is fairly entertaining usually. hell, i even like some country.

I believe a band like Good Charlotte or Fall Out Boy would be considered emo. The definition has largely changed from what I used to call emo.

The same can be said for metal. Within Temptation, Leaves Eyes, Atreyu, Ayreon, Apocalyptica, Nightwish, Kamelot, etc are all metal bands, however the only one you might hear on the radio is Atreyu. Atreyu has some screamish type songs, but other then those few songs all these bands are GREAT metal bands. Definitely my favorite genre right now.

I don't like most rap, but some of it can be okay. Country I am not a huge fan of but don't think its "bad".

Really it is all personal taste, and to each his/her own. Just in my car you listen to what I want to listen to :)

Exactly. With respect to what you said about metal and what I said about rap, it really can be applied to most musical genres.
