I think The Macallan 12 is too harsh. Maybe I need to try the 18yr. Good flavor though.
I drink JW Green, Auchentoshen (cheap but good) and Glenrothes. Glenmorangie is also harsh, but I love the finish. The 15 year oak is my favorite. Belvenie is good too, and Highland Park for the smoky flavor. I'll try the Oban and Isle of Jura next. Glenlivet isn't too bad either, but I guess I expect a bit more from my $30.

Well the Red Label tasted terrible to me. I guess I'll stick to my [insert every other type of alcohol but scotch here].

heh, Scotch is like guinness,... definitely an acquired taste, and not for everybody.

I find that i enjoy most single malts to one degree or another, and don't pretend to be a "scotch-snob", when it comes to drinking it. I have my preferences of course, but I'm willing to give any brand a try, to say i have.

Lately McLelland's has been my favorite, especially heated in a snifter. Very heady, and if heated right, feels like you're in a sauna, with a very mellow aftertone. Quite unusual, which is why i guess I like it.

The man speaks the truth. Maybe not the best, but very nice and not too expensive.

For something different, try Jamieson's 1780 Irish whiskey.

Edit: And Slick, don't judge scotch by Johnny Red. Next time you're in a decent restaurant or pub, ask what single malts they have. Order something reccommended in this thread. Try it with water on the side, so that if the burn takes away from the taste, you can dribble a little (AND i MEAN A LITTLE) water into it to take the edge off. once you start appreciating the taste of halfway decent stuff, you'll never go back.

Oh, I thought Red Label was one of the recommended here. I did ask which to try here but didn't get a reply. I mainly got the Red because they had it in a mini size. Not sure if they have any of the other scotches mentioned here in mini's(?). Though they might have a Jameson.

It's the one in the plastic bottle with VERY RARE in big red letters on the front.

Scoresby is the best, but make sure you get it in a glass bottle.

the only scotch that i have had is Jonny walker red and green, they seem harsh to me.

two nights ago i had some Glenfiddich with tonic water, i really liked it. Last night i went to the two liquor stores here in my small town and neither carried Glenfiddich.

I like my women like I like my scotch, 15 yrs old and mixed with a little coke

rofl...

and Jamison is Irish so it's technically not "scotch", but it's pretty good.

Laphroaig and Glenmorangie 18 are my favorite scotch though.

Hahaha a buddy of mine picked that up back in college... took a few drinks of it, put the bottle in the freezer, and there it stayed until we moved out of that house -_-

When I am looking for something that isn't a budget buster, I usually go for Laphroaig or Macallan 12 yr, but I am awful partial to Lagavulin as well

nice necro, when this thread is 18 years old it will be palatable enough to drink ^^ 5 year old scotch would taste like ass-----or more aptly canadian booze...

stares at this collection and hugs them-----20 bottles ranging from 12 yr to 30...

I'll throw in my 2¢ even though no one cares anymore. All scotch over $30 is the best scotch. When you get to that price point, it's more about personal taste than actual quality. Also, "favorite" depends on mood. I have several favorites, and What I pick depends on what I'm in the mood for.
