What is so wrong with rap music? Who are you to judge it?

When Jesus was dying on the cross, two criminals died next to him. You don't think that's a coincidence now, do you?

And I'm sorry, Tupac was assassinated, for he represented some form of Truth on this messed up planet. However, violent men will die violently. I think that's in the Tao...

I love Atmosphere, for he speaks the Truth. He says, "Hell yeah I'm ugly, God loves ugly." That was something he had to come to terms with, and he grew because of it. It's no different than overcoming ANY hardship, whether mental, physical, or spiritual. He performs at a nearby college every year...I'm SO there!

The meek shall inherit the Earth...until that time, it's on and poppin', CHUUUUCH - Jay Z :p

I like rap music but its wrong to criticize people for criticizing the music. Its their opinion plain and simple, who cares of they dont like it?

people criticize rap and justify their criticisms by calling it unintelligent and fake.

when in reality, good rap is more intelligent than anything like good charllotte or that pop40 crap... music can be good in any form I think... I like okkervil river, the eagles, and tupac... they all have very deep songs.

my real problem with rap is this - people with very little talent (some, not all) can be successful in it.....

For those of you that see some sort of 'higher vision' for Tupac, I have news for you....he was a piece of garbage, and a prime example of what is wrong with the genre

The same can be said for numerous "artists" on the "Top40" list.

that's because it is a "loaded" option. That and those that listen to that music are probably already in bed, they have to get up for junior high/high school in the morning.

Today I happened to be reading Anti-Semite and Jew by Sartre. I'm pretty sure it's relevant to racism in America today. Here's a morsel: This word opinion makes us stop and think. It is the word a hostess uses to bring to an end a discussion that threatens to become acrimonious. It suggests that all points of view are equal; it reassures us, for it gives an inoffensive appearance to ideas by reducing them to the level of tastes...In the name of democratic institutions, in the name of freedom of opinion, the anti-Semite asserts the right to preach the anti-Jewish crusade elsewhere.

I come from a long line of racists. Any hatred that I was taught will die with me. There's always another side to people, but it's just hidden behind a smile these days. "I don't mean to sound racist, but..."

We need to get on the same page here..at least respect the differences that exist between human beings. People are tried by the judge, jury, and executioner known as the court of public opinion. Why did a majority of white people think OJ should have fried, while a majority of black people thought he was innocent? I just don't understand what's so hard about having a little empathy...I can respect anyone else's point of view, because they all fall into the realm of Human Experience and I can relate. But I can't hold my tongue when I see opinions that obviously come from some fear or insecurity.

thats great pyonir, except we aren't talking about top 40 music.....and I'll add this - I don't like top 40 music at all...but I'll say that Michelle Branch (she is the one that plays piano, right?) has more musical talent than 95% of everyone who has ever put out a rap music album...

I think she is more guitar. The person you might be thinking of is Vanessa Carlton...saw her live. She is amazing.

Music will always be judged as it should be. Any music is a form of art..people have different tastes in art. I for one hate country music, just my opinion, not much more. :)

So now everyone who doesn't like rap music is a racist? If thats not your point, what is?

You aren't very familar with many lesser known rap artists then (that includes DJs). Branch has a lot of musical talent, but 95% is a little high of a percentage.

Edit: not to mention that is open to how you define musical talent.

I was in fact thinking of Vanessa Carlton...sorry about that.....but Michelle Branch plans an instrument as well, so I'll change her estimate to 90%....

seriously pyonir, tell me about some lesser-known, but more talented artists in rap....I'm thinking if they don't play an instrument, at the very least, then you can't include them..in fact, if they can't read or write music they can't and shouldn't be included...

I like some rap. Some of the stuff coming out now is prepackaged and unoriginal, but there is some good stuff too.

its crap. I dont enjoy it. I think that complaining about blacks being harassed by the police is a good thing, as it can bring about change. However, some of the rap artists out there talk about shooting the police in their "songs." Yea, cause that is going to help the situation.

Anyway, stop judging me. Who are you to do that?

i dont like rap because it talks about killin and crime etc. now thats cool, but it influences too many people-kids especially. they think its cool to break the law and by doing so they get respect and fortune. no-no. its not rap's fault, but the people. although i still think they should try to avoid making such things seem so pleasant. even if it really is what happens in reality.
