What is "Elite"?

Most of them have over 10K posts simply because of how long they've been around.

I got it around 1500 posts, so I've made 32K since then.

I agree that postcount has nothing to do with it. I got Elite around 5-7k and then custom title (Chief Ferengi then Grand Nagus) a while later.

Hey, I joined in 99 but had my account deleted when one of the "Anandtech Moderators" told me my old name was no longer allowed and to register another name. Oh well, their shower, their soap... how can you argue that kind of thing?

I think it's like any other forum in terms of special titles. Just be yourself and be helpful as long as being helpful is in your nature. Frankly I was just myself and became a [PC] member over on the MaximumPC forums and then a bit later became a moderator. Deliberately trying to curry favor with the other elite members and the moderators may have them pass you over in consideration for that title. Or I could be wrong and you do need to browse the Hot Deals forum for deals on knee pads.
