I think you have to have over 10,000 posts (lifer) and then if you do something really special that the mods like, then they'll elliteify you.

there are several on here, cannot think of who, that have less than 10k posts.

I honestly would like to know what/why some get it though. I have been on here for going on 5 years and i still have not figured it out yet either.... any more than you have to be helpful... but other than that, i don't know.

Most of them have over 10K posts simply because of how long they've been around.

I got it around 1500 posts, so I've made 32K since then.

I agree that postcount has nothing to do with it. I got Elite around 5-7k and then custom title (Chief Ferengi then Grand Nagus) a while later.

oh man i had never even noticed the custom title!!! Grand Nagus that is awesome LMAO!!!

BTW, I don't want to be Elite. I want the title "Hot Babe Purveyor" or "Knife wielding Geek" then I will have made my mark. :D

1. Make a significant positive impact on these boards (OT is the hardest one to do it in)
2. Have joined AT on 10/19/1999.

Hey, I joined in 99 but had my account deleted when one of the "Anandtech Moderators" told me my old name was no longer allowed and to register another name. Oh well, their shower, their soap... how can you argue that kind of thing? :p

After standing in line behind CPA, it took a whole year before his ego swelled down to a size where I could be noticed. :disgust:

But you made my Temporary Hero Hall of Fame. That's much more of an honor ;)
That was just due to the gallons of acrylic that I was smearing on the object in front of me. Made it shine better.

Elite just isn't the same here as it was in the move Hackers. :D

"It's ok...he's elite"

I don't recall the details, but I know a bottle of Listerine was my best friend for about 3 days afterwards.

the Elite knee pads are essential
i think the knee pads are given to you after you recieve the elite title, sort of like a "here for next time"
Mine were used :(

Sounds about right. That's how my sister gets out of speeding tickets. She drops names.

That's not the question. What makes someone DESERVE the elite title?
Service above and beyond the call of duty.

I'm up for that, what say you Mods?
If so, Engineer will have to vie for "Elite Director of the Department of Redundancy Department".

Schadenfroh (sp) isn't Elite.
To paraphrase -
A different bar for different folks.

Apparently the decision is both subjective and objective.
Maybe the number of darts and the color of darts that stick and their location when thrown at the board?:p

if that's the case (which i highly doubt), keep on posting people, we're taking this thread to a thousand posts :p

so basically you've gotta help people and contribute to the forums significantly. i'm guessing a good way of doing this is by making this informative threads that get stickied for newer users to read and learn from?

For me, it was answering comments/providing help in threads started by others.

Just go into Forum Issues. Every time someone starts a thread, insult them and tell them to PM the Mods because Forum Issues is not monitored.

Bwhahaha!

That would cause the left table to be too large on his posts though. We cant have that. Can it abreviated into 'Redundant Elite'? :D

It's called "Mod's friends" :light:

I think it's like any other forum in terms of special titles. Just be yourself and be helpful as long as being helpful is in your nature. Frankly I was just myself and became a [PC] member over on the MaximumPC forums and then a bit later became a moderator. Deliberately trying to curry favor with the other elite members and the moderators may have them pass you over in consideration for that title. Or I could be wrong and you do need to browse the Hot Deals forum for deals on knee pads.
