Because it's a fucked up system that encourages unproductivity. See: BoberFett
Fair enough, though I imagine most people wouldn't take that paycut. Obviously you'd agree that if unemployment paid a dollar annually nobody would use it but if it paid your full previous salary a lot more people would use it. I think 1/3rd salary is probably a pretty reasonable balance between the two, cause too much less and you'd start to miss payments, all cause of a temporary setback (laid off) simply due to, say, a horrid economy. That's not all that fair or sensible economically to be put in such a rut, plus unemployment isn't a top 10 driver of debt anyway.
24 bucks an hour, at least 10 hrs of OT a week, TWO retirement plans(pension & annuity, 30 yrs in I would have been collecting closer to 200k a year) and amazing health insurance. why? because they billed me out at a much higher pay scale(basically charging what they charged for foremen) and refused to pay me for the responsibility they were giving me. i really just didn't give a fuck, i still don't.
Ah I see, though I actually meant what did you give up annually/benefits compared to what you have now, or are you saying you took a $24/hr paycut? Which is crazy to me, but hey, more power to ya.
