I've been looking into outside cameras myself, I bought two Annke cameras a while back that I'll be testing indoors, I wanted something PoE that does not require apps or any of that BS and will just work with various software like Zone Minder or Blue Iris. Becoming harder to find such cameras now, but found the Annke ones.
Probably going to play with that in the new year and in summer I'll do the actual outside install and wiring. Ideally I want to cover the whole perimeter of the house and the driveway. I don't really want any inside as it just feels weird to do that, but I will have one in the basement that will oversee the wood stove so I can check if it needs more wood, and it will also double as security in case anyone were to actually break in through a basement window.
Not that I can even do anything if it happens, it's more for piece of mind to check that everything is fine, when I'm at work. I may eventually try to come up with something I can activate remotely though. The simplest is just a super loud siren and bright lights, hopefully that's enough to make them leave.
