I laughed, but then I googled to see more and found out 0-60's 6.5, for a minivan that's really damn impressive. There could actually be some use for those paddles, you might be able to get it down to 6.3 lol.
It comes with a PA system so I call yell at the kids sitting in the third row to shut up. And has camera on second abd third row so I can see what they are doing. It's the perfect police state mobile.

I transfered components to a new case, fans were loud so I was trying to figure out why. I ended up having to update Asus's Armory Crate. HOLY CRAP Asus sucks balls. There were 3 different updates, and I had to reboot twice. And it's mind blowingly slow, makes my 13600k feel like a Pentium 233 on Win 3.1. And I can't even uninstall it and use something else because my stupid ass ASUS AIO cooler with a screen needs the stupid software so I can upload stuff like an animated gif of Squidward Twerkin on it.

People that spend time messing with the computer are weird. Like you look at it maybe a few seconds to turn it on.

AYE, some of us get bored and need something to entertain us. Not all of us have fancy minivans with paddle shifters.

maps on Odyssey say they are from 2022. go through the hassle of installing garmin crapware and it tells me there is no update :colbert:

why can't the car talk to garmin directly through wifi? Yes, I connected the car to my home wifi.

Got paid today and just realized this is going to be my last "big" pay for the year. After that CPP and EI and all that stuff starts to come out again so the pays will be smaller. Usually get a holiday on that by end of summer so the pays are higher for the rest of the year.

Looking at the overall economic climate, I'm just happy to even HAVE a job right now...

Woke up to find one of my outdoor cameras dark and unresponsive.

Set up is LAN >> Multiport POE inserter/switch >> POE Extractor/splitter >> Camera.

The other devices all worked, but I've had situations where a port on the Switch buggers up and a reboot of the switch fixes it. Not this time. Frack, really not in the mood to buy a camera. Then I remembered I'd had another extractor fail recently.

Grabbed a spare and some tools and headed out. Lowered the almost 30' pole and swapped it. Bingo. Camera booted.

At least it was a $4 part and not a $40 camera.
What do you use outdoor cameras for?

I've been looking into outside cameras myself, I bought two Annke cameras a while back that I'll be testing indoors, I wanted something PoE that does not require apps or any of that BS and will just work with various software like Zone Minder or Blue Iris. Becoming harder to find such cameras now, but found the Annke ones.

Probably going to play with that in the new year and in summer I'll do the actual outside install and wiring. Ideally I want to cover the whole perimeter of the house and the driveway. I don't really want any inside as it just feels weird to do that, but I will have one in the basement that will oversee the wood stove so I can check if it needs more wood, and it will also double as security in case anyone were to actually break in through a basement window.

Not that I can even do anything if it happens, it's more for piece of mind to check that everything is fine, when I'm at work. I may eventually try to come up with something I can activate remotely though. The simplest is just a super loud siren and bright lights, hopefully that's enough to make them leave.

For general info, not a response

My personal preference is for complete systems - cams plus a base unit that you connect to a monitor with cams transmitting OTA (over the air) and a wire for power.

Since the chips that go into cameras are so much more efficient, for special uses (say in a car, tree house, rabbit hutch, etc), some cams are completely wireless and will run on battery power alone for surprisingly long intervals.

Another workaround is to get a cheap Li-ion jumper battery and use that as your power source. For about 100 USD you can get one with a 20 amp-hour rating (https://www.amazon.com/HULKMAN-Alpha85-Starter-20000mAh-Portable/dp/B08M41FX48) but no DC to AC inverter. Anything outdoors that is meant to be run off of the internal battery, will run virtually forever if you hook it up to one of these. And we're talking ALMOST pocket size.

There are probably apps that will allow you to mix and match cams into a single interface. That's really your only option if you're going to build your system piecemeal.

Took a tiny chunk of skin out of my ring finger knuckle 2 weeks ago. Taking forever to heal.

I put some advanced healing bandage on it (hydrocolloid or something) on tuesday. Annoyingly painful so I peeled it off this morning. Knuckle is fckn swollen and the cut is green with pus now. FFS.

Not sure where this should go. I picked up a new to me 23" Dell monitor from the thriftshop. Cost $24. Looks great, but it's a little smaller than I'd like. I had 28" in mind when the time came.

Here's the problem. It replaces an ancient 20" 4:3 Dell, and I lost some vertical space. 4:3 is a great format, and though 20" is a little small, it was fine, and I was gonna use it til it died to not be wasteful. I guess I won. The display looks great, and it'll use less power, but I want my pixels back!

The two camera brands I have now are BoaVison and Jennov. The Boas are pant/tilt, but do not have zoom. At around $40, they really can't be beat. I use a POE extractor as shown above and they work day and night, winter and summer.

Cold Canadian winters might be an issue for them.

The Jennovs both have good zooms. One is 20X optical and an additional 10X digital. I can't recall at the moment if they're POE or if I have extractors on them.

All can be controlled and viewed on a PC with IE 11 (the only thing I use it for) and on my 8 channel NVR.

I probably have about $500-600 into the whole thing.

The ones I got are Annke C800 and are half decent qualify, 4k. I think they're basically Hikvision rip offs. Can't seem to find actual Hikvision here in Canada. There's some on Amazon but those are going to be rip offs as well and cost more. I also got a TP link POE switch for them... before I found out about TP link being a national security issue lol. It's on a fully isolated vlan so think it will be fine. It's just a regular non managed switch. Just got it to extend ports off my main switch and provide POE.

I still need to setup Zoneminder, but got this with VLC by connecting to the RTSP stream to give an idea of quality. One with IR and one with light. I have one setup to check on the wood stove remotely. I will install it in the ceiling some time, it's just sitting on a table for now.

And yeah that wall is terrible, I was not trying to do a good job since it will be covered with a heat shield anyway. Have not decided yet on what I want to do. Metal panels would be the easiest, but masonry would hold in more heat. So I might do masonry.

About to order a CPU cooler off Amazon, the description says it's white, but the pics show the black one. I'm re-doing a white build, and ordering it will be a crap shoot. I have terrible luck so I'm sure if I order it expecting to get the white one I'll get the black model. Yes I could just return it but I want to install it Monday.

With how my luck works anything that's a mathematical coin flip somehow becomes 95/5 it'll turn out wrong lol. And because it's Amazon, there's another listing for a white one with white pics, but it's $25 more. And I'd probably pay extra to be sure, but that one won't get here 'till after Xmas (28th) and I can't wait that long!

I got my cats a nice cat tower from aldi today. It's pretty elaborate for $25. They of course are ignoring it. My girl was on the table eyeing it up, and I hit the dangling ball to show her how fun it was. She then proceeded to ignore it and knock a key off the table. Probably as 'fuck you' to me.

I think cats developed cuteness as a self defense mechanism. There would probably be no such thing as cats if they had to solely rely on their personalities :^D
