I never timed it but driving through the city is probably actually a good 30 minutes if you count the entire city limits including Porcupine area which is technically part of Timmins. There are lot of stop lights to go through, and if it's not that, it's idiots trying to turn left where they shouldn't. Assuming no stop lights and no traffic it would probably take about 10 minutes to do the whole thing though.

We're actually the 7th largest city in Canada as far as land mass goes.

I have an Alexa-based smarthouse. We have an older-gen big Echo in the living room. My wife feels bad bossing Alexa around, so she renamed the trigger word to "Computer". The problem is, all of our other Echo Dots around the house are named "Alexa" & I never remember to use "Computer" trigger word, so in the living room, I say "Alexa", "Alexa", "ALEXA!", and then finally "Computer!". So I got another Echo Dot on sale for the living room to be "Alexa", so now we have his & hers Echos in that room lol.

I figured I would go mow the lawn since it was sunny out. I recently got diagnosed with a foot condition that greatly limits my mobility and mowing the lawn does not hurt the feet much since it's on soft ground, so it's basically the only exercise I get now days so I've been mowing it like every 2-3 days just to give me some basic physical activity to do, and to get some sun. Well I step outside, full sun, beautiful day. It starts pouring rain completely out of nowhere and it's no longer sunny. Just like that. Rain is coming down hard now. Well so much for that lol.

Yeah getting old sucks. I just did not figure I'd have something this serious so early in life. But it runs in the family. My mom and dad both have it and said they just learned to live with the pain. Basically can't put any weight on the ball of my foot. It's called morton's syndrome and there is no real cure, only treatment which is orthotics, but that does not really help 100%. The pain is still always there.

I feel it's getting slightly better though, been icing it and doing stretches etc and basic rehab stuff. I just hope I can get to a point that I can still do physical work like building stuff since I really want to start on my off grid cabin. I will probably hire out clearing the land though at this point since I already lost 2 weeks of summer vacation. This week was suppose to be my week to go clear land.

Logged in in order to post something that occured to me, but then got distracted by another thread and forgot what it was I came in here for. I think it was something for this thread, but now this meta-problem will have to do.

I received a letter from the IRS stating they changed the amount of the return. They listed like seven different reasons they MIGHT have done so on the letter. I was told to call in and request a review / clarification on their reasoning by a certain date.

Every time I call, the automated system says "Due to overwhelming call volume, we are unable to review your case at this time. Call back a different day".

There's no way to schedule a call-back, no way to speak to anyone, and basically no way to do anything before the "contact us by this date" timeframe expires.

When did Monoprice become so expensive? Their cheapest 6-foot USB type C cable is $9 for one. I got a 3-pack of 6-foot USB type C cables from Amazon for $10 with free next-day shipping.

Been a while since I ordered from there, we have primecables.ca now which is basically our version of Monoprice and they have decent prices, and shipping is also way less. I still have a roll of 1000 foot cat6 from when I first moved in my house actually. I should probably use it up at some point, there's a couple areas of the house that could use jacks. One of those "nice to have" things and not something I need so never got around to running them.

Monoprice has never been the cheapest place to buy cables and their shipping usually kills any "deal" unless you place a large order... they do have some decent quality cables though.

The problem with buying cables off Ebay/Amazon is you can't be confident what you'll actually get the specs they claim to have unless you buy direct from the companies "store-front".

Fuck everyone who lives near me. Went out to our recycling dumpster and it was filled with plastic bags, plastic wrap, empty 5 gallon paint cans, and construction materials. None of that shit is recyclable. If the recycling company came and took it, it would get sent to the dump along with all the actual recyclables in the dumpster. Had to fish all that crap out and move it to the trash dumpster.
Humans suck man. Shit I see around my neighborhood boggles my mind.

Worst part?

Turning your back on the IRS is like turning your back on the ocean.... and if you can't reach them that's what they'll assume you've done!

Good news is you should be able to reach them the old-fashioned way via the USPS and do it certified with a return-receipt.

Was traveling along the Eastern Sierras this past weekend. I really hate the drivers that go 15 below the speed limit during the single lane sections and speed up to 80+ when there's a passing lane so that nobody can get by them.

I've been trying to sign on to a webinar today, organized by some very well compensated people. I get this email a few minutes ago…

Sent at 12:21:
"You are receiving this email because you have registered for the ABC webinar. The webinar starts at 12:30pm and going to 4:30pm EST. You received an invitation starting at 12:00pm to 5:00pm EST but that had to be sent that way for technical reasons."

Local merchants: "Shop local, not chains!"
Me: "Okay."
<Sign says "open now" but… closed>
Me: Eats chain crap.
Local merchants: "No one supports local businesses."

I saw set to try the good stuff, but, alas.

I hate this text-message confirmation thing that paypal use now. The damn texts never arrive, so you click 'resend' repeatedly, and eventually, after about an hour, 4 or 5 of them arrive at once, all with different codes, and you don't know which is the one they actually want (or if that one has yet to arrive).
