I went car shopping with my wife for 4+ hours today so she could decide on what car she liked/wanted. Since we had to do this, I wasn't able to email any dealers for the best they could do if we were buying, and I hate walking into any dealership anymore and doing any negotiating there.

We accomplished that as the only two she liked (looks and interior) was the 2018+ Civic and Accord. Of course the dealer did the usual dealer stuff when we were trying to leave, and threw an obscene high price at my wife because she really liked the 2021 Civic EX, and I had to talk my wife out of any more wheeling and dealing because she is not one who likes to haggle, and is fine buying the car if she likes it (and thinks the salesperson is being "nice").

Once we got home, I showed her what that dealership had that particular car listed at on their website, and their "great deal" they offered us was like $2500 higher than that the "online price". At least once she saw that, she was glad I convinced her not to be tempted to stay there any longer.

Got to get her to upgrade to a 2021 Ford Mustang GT. Life is too short for boring cars.

My mower broke down a few weeks ago so I've been having this guy do my lawn. He didn't show up this week so I went to take my mower in to get it fixed. Squirrels chewed holes in the gas tank,.. WTF.

Closed the online savings account from BoA a few weeks ago after I earned the $250 bonus after 3 months. Yesterday I received a check from them to cover the interest of the last month and it was $0.07. Yes, 7 pennies worth on the check. Shall I cash it?

Win 10 did an update. My laser printer is now being a pita. Not printing, printing multiple blank pages then works just fine. It's like some of my ex girlfriends. Dafuq?

Stuff like this is why I've been holding off for as long as humanly possible to get off windows 7 for my gaming machine. It seems every couple weeks Windows 10 is pushing bad updates that break stuff.

I sometimes think I'm making my life harder by using Linux as my main OS, but then I forget all the PITA windows 10 people go through. :p

At some point I won't have a choice if I want to play newer games though, or even older games that are tied to proprietary platforms like steam, sicne the launcher itself stops working on 7 after a while. That's what happened to Unreal Tournament, the launcher just flat out stopped working. I hate that most games are even relying on these launchers now days instead of being standalone.

Do you have Windows set to receive updates for non-Microsoft products? If so, it probably updated your printer driver.

Local supermarket has counters for takeout food. One of them is for fried chicken/fries etc.
They have 3 screens. On screen 2 it says "Step 2: Choose chicken", and then there's a bunch of different options/sizes.
On screens 1 and 3 it says "Your Windows 7 PC is out of support" :)

It kind of reminds me of that South Park meme with Step 3 Profit, except here it's step 2 choose chicken, and step 1,3 ??

I always wonder why stuff like that does not just use Linux. Make it a web page on a browser that's full screen. you can literally run that on a Raspberry PI, and have a bunch of spares to swap out if one goes wrong. You can train a minimum wage teenager how to set it up and fix it. Multiply that across all chain locations and it's savings in the 100's of thousands in licensing fees.

Weirdest day today shopping for cars.

I decided to submit the info for the car we want using Sam's Club auto purchase program late last night. I probably received 20 emails and phone calls from dealers, and we decided to head to one earlier today to see what their offer was. The thing was, they were not answering the phone. It would ring like 5 times, and then automatically disconnect. We tried multiple times, but it was like that every single time, so we just decided to head up there.

When we got to the dealer, there were like 4 police cars and about 10 officers standing in front of it. I wasn't even sure what the hell was going on, so I got out to ask if the place was on lockdown or something. When I exited the car, one of the deputies was staring right through me like he was expecting me to do something bad. I literally had to look the option direction from the stare-down he was giving. One of the dealership sales people came out and asked if they could help us, and when we asked if their dealership was even open because of the police presence, and if so what happened, she said "Some people have decided to handle transactions here", and that was it. We were there maybe 5 minutes, and they actually increased the selling price by $3000 over what they sent us in the Sam's Club deal (and which I showed them). This wasn't some tiny no-name dealer, as this was Hendrick Honda which is a huge dealer in the SE.

So since our time was so short and weird there, we decided to go to a different Honda dealer about 30 minutes away from the first one. We get there, and start looking at the cars in the lot for a moment. There weren't any other customers on the lot, and a sales person came out pretty quickly like they usually do. He asked if we wanted to test drive a car, and we told him we had already done that and that my wife had already decided what car she wanted. He then asked if we had worked with anyone there, and we told him that their dealership had sent an offer through the Sam's Club thing. He then said, "Great! Here's my card if you want to buy something, so you can just show that the people here". He then left and went back inside the building. From the time he came out to the time he was back in the building was no kidding like 20 seconds. He never came back out (nor did anyone).

Both me and my wife were both like "WTF is going on in at Honda dealers in this area today?"

So it looks like tomorrow we will try a 3rd one, and pretty much buy something there as long as they are a better experience than the first two.

I also have a laser Brother printer, a HL-5470dw, have called them a time or two and gotten decent service. Had a problem in that the toner on printed sheets would smear, the prints would become unreadable. It's a B&W printer. They gave me the solution. There's a setting "improve toner fixing." You have to dig into the options to find it. Once properly set, it's remembered. Ever since doing this my prints have been great with few exceptions. It takes an extra 5 seconds or so for the first print to come out. I think it has to do with heating the toner setting element enough. Why it is necessary to make the adjustment I don't know.

Display Port has this annoying thing where when you turn off a monitor, or even switch input, it tells the computer that the monitor is unplugged. That causes all the windows to be all reshuffled all over the place and it makes a huge mess. When I work from home I have it setup so one of the 4k's is on the KVM so I can switch between work and personal easily. This works ok as the KVM always shows something connected to both machines. But the secondary monitor on top I have it setup so I just plug DP directly in, and HDMI is also directly in from my personal. I just switch the input to work and keep it that way for the day. This causes my work computer to go completely haywire when I switch it back to personal or even turn off the monitor. I have a special inline HDMI dongle I use for my personal as I was having the issue even in Linux with HDMI where it would shuffle all my windows around in Linux. (why is this annoying thing even a thing anyway?). This works great, but the work PC is DP and I can't seem to find such dongles that are made for DP.

I bought 2 DP to HDMI converters last year, and for the life of me I cannot find the 2nd one. The 1st one is already in use to go from DP to the KVM. I was thinking of using the 2nd one for the 2nd 4k and then putting the HDMI inline dongle thingy inline so it can stop the whole window shuffle thing. It annoys me that I can't find the second converter.

Ended up just ordering another one. I hate buying something when I KNOW I have it here but can't find it. I consider the other one a loss at this point. Looked all over for it. It could even be that I accidentally threw it out with the box when I originally got the package.

Went to get some groceries earlier tonight. The check out clerk entered my pack of green onion ($0.50/pack) as celery ($1.53/pack) so I was being overcharged of $1.03 plus higher sale tax. I didn't know until I was home later.

Shall I get a GoFundMe account now?

from experience, costco's auto buying program is the same thing.

since your wife likes the honda civic and accord, why not just email ALL the honda dealerships within 60 miles of you for the out the door price?
and goto the cheapest one?

and mark as spam those dealerships that wont give you a price and tell you to come in.
they will forever email you so mark as spam the 1st time saves you from seeing another email from them ever again.

Pretty much all of them outside of 3 dealers wouldn't do the price outside of going to the dealership. Of those 3, two were pretty bad and the ones you quoted above. The one we went today really surprised us with just giving a good price (at least today). They were the first ones who gave us a horrible price to begin with, which prompted me to see what the whole Sam's Club auto program was about.

To their credit today, we showed up and the car salesman's assistant (the salesman was with another family when we arrived) asked us a few questions (down payment, how many months, trade-in, etc.) and came back with a very solid/fair price. I was so shocked how straight forward they were, and I asked them for a few minutes so my wife and I could talk it over outside for a moment. We basically went out and simply talked about how shocked we were they weren't even going to do the "let me talk to my manager" back and forth nonsense. We walked back in and said we'd do it.

Today was.........dare I even say it, pretty decent in how it went. :) :p
