Yeah no luck with dead pixel it just comes right back. This blows. I hope they actually do accept the RMA, no way I can live with this after spending that kind of money. It's in a pretty bad spot too, it's like right in the lower middle.

I'm hoping that maybe a power off and on will make it go away but I'm not counting on it. I can't turn it off now as my work PC scrambles everything around if you turn off one of the monitors, I don't know why it does that. But I will try it tomorrow after my shift. If that does not do it then I'll have to start the RMA process and hope they can send new one first as I don't want to be without for too long.

And another FWP, my church is going to be live streaming but they want to use this Zoom thing that requires me to install a plugin. First thing I found when I googled it is that it's riddled with security issues. Figured I can just enable the plugin as needed... but first thing it wants when I install it is a huge list of permissions including access to my google account. Why do they make stuff so freaking invasive? I just want to watch a live stream, I should not even need to install some stupid app or plugin.

Create a vm, a disposable google account and use that vm

That's what I'm doing, just not sure how to get sound to work through the VM. Virtualbox does not really have "vmware tools". The "Guest additions" option never did anything for me, never gotten it to work. Hoping if I do Linux it might just work out of the box in Debian itself, ex: might be a default driver.

No hardware pass through?

I wouldn't sit through a church service for free toiletpaper. Even MRE paper is better/easier than that.

Probably won't bother if it ends up being too complicated. I just don't know why they arn't sticking with Youtube, that was working out ok.
With zoom, the preacher can watch you to see if you are sleeping. He can also check out the hotties.

My stupid monitor has developed a weird greenish 'screen burn' type effect in the top part. This is what it currently looks like on the bare desktopmonitorghost.jpg

Try to use credit card without foreign surcharge. I used Capital 1 credit card while I was in Japan and did not get any surcharge on top. The exchange rate (from JPY to USD) was sucky though.
i would have had i any inkling that the site, with all prices in US dollars and a .com address, was foreign.

today's problem: vmware player (or whatever the free one is) randomly decides that the network connection no longer works until you switch it to another type.

Yeah sounds like they do all sorts of shady shit. That's why there is no way I'm installing that on one of my main machines.

Really I almost need to buy a separate phone or a tablet for this sort of stuff. So when family or an organization wants me to install stuff I can do it on that instead of my prod stuff. I have my wifi vlan separate from my main network so even if these sketchy apps try to port scan my network they won't find anything important.

I did not realize burn in was still a thing but on one of my 4k monitors at work I have burn in as well. It's always the same windows that are up and even though they are manually placed I guess I place them close enough to the same spot all the time and they will stay up for 12 hours at a time. So yeah started to burn in.

We also have a burnt in map of Ontario and Quebec and our microwave network on one of our TVs. Burn in seems oddly selective though, like why is it only that one TV, or that one monitor.

That stuck pixel seems to be gone on mine, but I still see it when I put something white over. It sometimes comes back though. Does not bode well. Will need to look into the RMA process tomorrow. I'm hoping they have a grace period that is longer than normal, I would rather wait until things are back to normal. I can live with it since it's a side monitor, but when it becomes one of my primary monitors, no way I want that.

I think my company used Zoom for the last remote meeting, and our client uses Google Hangouts and BlueJeans, depending on what the person hosting decides to use. I didn't realize that about Zoom but that don't surprise me. Hangouts and BlueJeans work well and I don't remember them requiring any overzealous permissions.

One of the cheap fans i got zip tied to a 1080ti decided to crap out, in order to stay on team and fold and contribute been forced to downclock gpu and lower power limit to keep it under 80 cel. Rocking a 85% power limit boosting 1569 avg and 75-77 cel load temps on a colder room profile. Got secondary 75% profile for the warmer hours of the day. Got house fan blowing in too till replacement fans for cards arrive. Messed up on the fans so i guess its 2 weeks from Hong Kong.

Yesterday was my official layoff date. I still have 2 paychecks coming. I have no idea how or when to file for unemployment.

Should be a fucking blast.
