Filed my taxes this morning. (Got my 1098-T last night.) Quick, easy, free, and when I got to the end, TurboTax directed me to one of those "missing money" websites where it turns out I had some money waiting for me. (Looks like a previous years' tax return.)

Have to wait until next Friday to file my state return though... :-(

Wow. My employer always waits until the end of the month to postmark our W2s.

Damn I wish I could get my taxes done this early. My company usually waits till like March to send the T4. It's usually like March or April by the time I have all my papers and can bring them to my tax person. Though last year they actually sent it out "early" so I'm hoping they continue to send them earlier. It's usually a week or so until I get the direct deposit.

When are your taxes due? In the US I believe that employers are required to postmark W2s and such by January 31 for tax filing by April 15.

So, you don't have any 1099s? That's odd in thes day and age.

Nah. I have a job. That's it. It pays well, I don't need a "hustle" to make ends meet. Nor do I do contract work, although I could, but I don't particularly want to be a contractor.

I don't get a 1099-INT from my bank because the total interest on my checking account is like $0.63 for the year, and the IRS don't give a fuck about that. My retirement plan is all managed - no gains or income on that until I retire.

So... meh.

Those sites are bullshit. I ran a SSN through my state's site and got one hit. I contacted the Treasury Department and then the Dept for Unclaimed Property and talked to someone there. They ran the SSN and found 10 pages worth of unclaimed property. Most of it was nickel and dime stuff but there were a dozen or more items that were substantial amounts - IOW, enough that they should have been posted on the website - IOW, not trivial.

So if you have one claim showing up online, there's a reasonable chance you have more that they aren't showing. Find the phone number for your state/province's dept for missing, unclaimed, escheated property and call them. Talk to a live person and have them run the ssn for you. It's well worth the effort.

Thanks to this post I went to CA's unclaimed property site, put in my name and my dad's name, and found my dad $50. Old mail in rebate.

This'll be good. I'm splitting my personal and business stuff into two credit cards. My other card hasn't been used in 7 years. Can't wait for it to get locked and get a call from the fraud department.

My old cooking thermometer crapped out and got the new one from Amazon in two days, and too lazy to try it out yet.

I had to listen to whiny liberals complain about Trump all day long, even though he hasn't really done much yet. Something tells me that's going to be a recurring theme for at least the next four years.

People keep buying me wedding gifts even though it specifically says on the wedding invites "please do not bring gifts".

Had to listen to Obama complaints the last eight years, and participated myself. Turnaround's fair play I guess. The Dems do seem to be particularly shrill, though that may be due to more msm coverage. You had to go outside the mainstream to be inundated with Obama complaints.

It's been way too hot lately and the snow is melting. Lot of streets are now down to mostly pavement, which is harder on the car because of all the pot holes.

Left my ancient toaster oven running overnight, and the lower elements quit working. Got a black & decker from biglots today, and I think it's gonna be too small. Feels cheap also. It's one of my most used appliances, so I wanted to get /something/, but I might have to get another one once I see what's on the market.

Oh, I had another major problem yesterday. I went to wawa hoping to get the turkey, stuffing, mashed potato bowl, but they didn't have potatoes. I got mac & cheese with bacon. I'm not fond of mac & cheese, but the bacon made it tolerable.

The white girl at the counter that I've been seeing awhile, now looks like an Indian girl. Not a light Bollywood Indian, but the deepest darkest Indian that you might think was black on first glance. She looked ridiculous. A shame, cause she's kinda cute. Instead of severe modifications(especially ones that cause skin cancer), she should work with what she's got.
