New I found out they film Lucifer in Vancouver -- maybe with some in LA. That explains all those jackets in what should be a desert. Fooling people with their yellow-ish exterior filter.
like when they use a blue filter to make it "night" in shots that were filmed during the daytime.

ever since that got pointed out to me, I can't stop seeing it in movies. same with prop coffee cups that are empty.

I decided that if I'm picked for the Mars mission, I'm going to put up a poster of a KitchenAid mixer in the galley section of the spacecraft.

Does that count as FWP?

it happened to my prius. Did you know the Prius has a tiny 12v battery in addition to the giant battery that actually powers the fucking thing?

I didn't either. I also didn't know that tiny piece of shit battery was $200 and there is no are limited aftermarket replacements.

Want to really blow your mind and destroy the coolness factor for guns in TV and movies?

Next time you watch anything, pay attention to the slide on pistols and bolt on rifles/submachine guns. Are they moving when you see the muzzle flash? Is a casing ejected?

A lot of shows use fake guns or don't even bother with blanks -- probably because blanks are still dangerous and loud as fuck. My enjoyment of Person of Interest was slightly lessened after IMFDB pointed out the fakeness -- makes sense, I wondered how they got permission to pop off shots in the middle of Manhattan.

And this deserves its own post: fuck you, kids.

Been contacting more insurance brokers about getting insurance to tutor little shits and run some other side businesses. Quotes for the side things are in the "OMFG, so cheap, so easy" range. Quotes for tutoring? More expensive. And to get "Abuse Liability" -- totally sugarcoated because the definition is much wider in the form's definition to include pedo -- the application asks more than a dozen things to make sure you're not a pedo and don't hire pedos. Then it makes you attach action plans and training materials to sniff out pedos and beaters. Now I know why the pro tutors charge $40/hour and up.

I can do it and hope for the best, but too many Google stories from teachers who got their careers destroyed cause they yelled at or humiliated little Jimmy and little Jimmy wanted to get back at him/her.

Ummm... yes, I did know that actually. The big battery powers the motors. The little battery does what the battery in any car does - runs accessories, starts the gas engine, etc.

There are at least five Prius owners in my extended family, though.

There are instructions on replacing it online. It looks like kind of a PITA but I'd do it myself if the alternative was $250 in labor. (The batteries cost around $150, looks like.)

I got charged $260 all in for the battery. Probably could've saved $50-$100 doing it myself, but alas wife was stranded and needed to get where she needed to go.

Now I need to go home and see what the hell kind of battery they replaced it with.

I had an uncle give me $1,500 this summer because he won the lotto (well some stocks he made good money on) but at the same time I had about $1,600 of unexpected car repairs. THAT sucked... was still happy to get the money from him no doubt about it (or I'd still be paying for it) but it kinda sucked knowing it was basically gone as soon as I got it.

The "auxiliary" battery doesn't actually start the car. All it does is power up the ECMs and then engage the giant contactor (relay) in the back to connect the high voltage battery to the inverter. One of the two large electric motors, the one that's connected directly to the engine, actually starts it. The auxiliary battery does very little, but they seem to last a very short time. I bought a used 2008, and when viewing the vehicle's history found that the battery had been replaced in 2011, and then in 2014 after it was traded in. I had to replace ours last summer. They don't go bad like a regular battery, they usually still power the car when low and once the system is in a "ready" state, the inverter powers the 12V system, much like a running car's alternator normally does. However, when they start to go bad, they drag fuel economy down with them.

I have no idea how/why such a small battery that's AGM, and doesn't live in the heat of the engine compartment has such a short life compared to most automotive batteries. My dad had a 2001 Cadillac DHS. That thing had a giant battery located under the read seat. We replaced the original battery in 2012. Batteries like temperatures that humans like.

fuck....I guess I should expect to replace this battery again in 2020. Hopefully it dies just before the 3yr warranty runs out.

What a piece of shit... Even my laptop batteries still carry a charge after 4 years -- barely.

And more commercial insurance bullshit. Found an online seller that will cover my primary activity for a reasonable price but not the other smaller things I'd like to dabble in -- kind of stupid considering the dabbling things are so much lower risk and a small portion of what I'd do. However, I'm somewhat relieved cause that place asked for a year's dues upfront -- why wouldn't I want to pay monthly?

I have some cheapo crappy tire batteries from 2012 and 2013 still running fine as UPS duty. They've been deep cycled to 11 volts a few times. Ok, so I lost one because it went under thermal run away, but 1 out of 4 is not bad. :p Or I guess it is.... lol

FWP: I got Wendy's earlier today and got a free frosty. I put it in the fridge with intention of eating it right after my meal. I forgot about it and found it just now. It was no longer a frosty. Should have put it in the freezer. #LFMF.

I want to get a POS Samsung Tab 7 E Lite because it's the cheapest piece of shit that works from Samsung but the Tab 7 A is only $45 more. From my history with tablets, I'd probably use it for checking email for a month, then stop using it and Craigslist it two years later.

It would be nice to not have to turn on my desktop if I'm in a rush in the morning but must check my business email. All subway stations have free wifi now too. And the Tab 7 E Lite is practically disposable. Want to rob me in public? Jokes on you, sucka.

No smartphone? If not, you could get some old piece of junk *cheap* that'll serve your stated purpose, and it's pocketable. Don't even need phone service.

Nope. Won't pay for the service and won't deal with the prospect of breaking a $500 phone -- I've dropped my cell over 10 times by now. A 7 E Lite is only $100 on sale and has both Wifi and GPS.

You could get a used S4 or S5 for <$100, and those are both still great microtablets. After having a phone, I would never get another tablet. Even if I didn't have cell service(which I probably wouldn't if work didn't pay for it), a phone covers everything I want in a tablet, with a better form factor.

edit:
you could go way cheaper than that also. I would be surprised if you couldn't get something good for <$50, especially since the phone isn't needed. That frees you up to get something based only on hardware specs, and not carrier support.

Google images suggests that the S4 and S5 batteries are replaceable... interdasting. Local Craigslist is showing S4 phones at $150 and under. Do I want to buy someone's toilet hands phone though.

Checkout the lg stylo. It's a budget phone, but has a removeable battery, and expandable storage. It's like a ghetto Note. My daughter has one, and I'd consider one for myself. Prices on swappa are showing ~$60 used.

Filed my taxes this morning. (Got my 1098-T last night.) Quick, easy, free, and when I got to the end, TurboTax directed me to one of those "missing money" websites where it turns out I had some money waiting for me. (Looks like a previous years' tax return.)

Have to wait until next Friday to file my state return though... :-(
