Ended up getting two cases of Wornick MREs for $170. Listing said an inspection date of 2025 or better, but the pics showed a date of 2021. Guess I'll see what shows up. Not a huge deal, but it's nice having more breathing room for date.
Score! 2025 inspection date! Pretty good deal on these. The competitors were a few years older at this price($85/case), or waaay more expensive for a late date.

Tried to convince my boss to get me a Thinkstation Threadripper 3955WX 128GB RAM (only $1222 refurbished) to replace my aging but trusty i7-4770. New Dell Core i5-12500 8GB they usually give is $680 anyway. He didn't seem convinced (because he's not the one dealing with Excel sheets with almost 700K rows) and going to consult with someone (I know that leech of a vendor who doesn't even understand that a dual socket server performs worse than a single socket server with same core counts). And the boss got himself a stupid Core 1355U laptop for $1766. It's not his money. It's the company's money and the company should support its employees with justifiable expenses.

Last night I went to where the food trucks are to get Papas Locas from the Colombian food truck. I'd been dreaming about Papas Locas all week and they're only there Thursday - Sunday. Welp, they weren't there, maybe due to all the rain. So I had to end up eating a Birria Quesadilla instead :| And while the Quesadilla was huge and delicious, it was like 80% meat 20% cheese. I wish it had more cheese :| Also the price went up $3 from what it was about 2 months ago. ($11/$14)

THANK YOU DONALD TRUMP! And with my luck, both the Birria truck guy and the Colombia one will get deported so all that'll be left to eat is Mikey's Fried Fish. As he's the only food truck out of all of them that's not a brown person Trump will be deporting.

For explanation, Papas Locas are fries topped with steak, grilled chicken, grilled Kilbasa like sausage, some sort of crumby funky cheese, 2 sauces, ketchup and grilled corn kernels. This is one of the best things I've ever eaten.

I got some Tête De Moine cheese from aldi, and some fucker ate one of the florets. I didn't notice when I picked up the package. I was just gonna take the loss, but fuck that. Shit's expensive, even at aldi prices. Now I have to hold onto it, and take it with me next week to make an exchange. It's too far for a special trip.

This was yesterday, but I just watched 2 of my hockey teams lose. My nephew's hockey team were winning 4-2 and 3rd period the opposing team scored 2 quick goals right away. Final score ended up being 8-3 for the other team. Then watched Team Canada lose to the US 3-1. That always hurts! The start of that game though, wow. Big fight immediately 2 seconds in. That was fun.

In all seriousness though it was a good time to spend with my dad. Been meaning to do that more.

I woke up.
Did you have one of those insanely painful Charlie Horses where you can barely even move your leg for like a minute straight while you wince because it feels like you had been shot in the leg? That might be the worst way to wake up in the 1stworld.

Trying to figure out a way to transfer my data from my current PC to my new PC at work, with no network drives (new company policy got rid of those) and no USB capability (all blocked) and noticed a "onedrive" option, I clicked on it to see if maybe I could use this to create some sort of shared drive. But instead, it just vanished, and did nothing.

Or so I thought... now it's syncing everything on my PC to the cloud, and it stalled, and I have zero control over the operation or much insight on what is even going on. I found an option where you can select what folders you want to sync as I have some folders with like 100GB of stuff that are not that important and I don't know what the disk space limit is because it doesn't show it anywhere. I tried to unselect it but it errored out saying a sync is in progress. Ther eis no way to stop the sync unless you unlink the account. I don't want to do that because now I will probably lose the data that is synced because it doesn't look like it stays on the PC. There's an option to pause it so I tried that, but it just shut down the whole thing and the option to select folders is now gone completely.

It looks like the files are also being moved to a different location on the PC, so that's going to break all my shortcuts too. But there's no clear indication if they are even on the PC anymore. I wonder what happens once I'm off the network...

What a POS software. The least it could have done is show a dialog box or SOMETHING to tell me what it's going to do, and give me options for what to sync before it just does it. There's practically no real interface or options or anything to really see what's going on or have much control over it.

I think we have reached a point where Linux is actually easier to use than Windows. Windows reminds me a lot of the early days of Linux now where stuff is kind of half baked.

You described EXACTLY why I've never tried to use it. The more they try to dumb down the user experience to make it simpler for novices, the harder it actually gets for people like us who want to know exactly what the software is doing behind the scenes. And personal data is not something I'm going to trust with something like that.

In an IT support role in my previous job, this guy had been using Microsoft Briefcase for syncing files. Domain server name changed and his files stopped syncing. He was THE regional financial director so had lots of important financial files. I took one look at his mess of files and decided better to not try to do anything lest he lose his files. Well, he didn't appreciate my cautionary stance and turned passive aggressive towards me and kept complaining about me behind my back to HR about stuff that wasn't even true like saying I didn't know how to scan a document even though he never approached me for help.

And complete white lies like "staff is paying for getting colored prints from outside the office even though they have a color printer in the office". Again, whoever those staff were, they did not ask me how to get a color print etc. My direct manager showed me these emails and said there was little to nothing he could do since that dick was so high up in the pecking order so obviously I lost my job after 9 months :)

This whole drama could have been avoided if the idiots behind Microsoft Briefcase had thought of this edge case and provided an option to update the domain server name, look at the files at the new location and do the syncing automatically. I later found out that one solution was to create an alias for the domain server so it could be referred to by its older name too. Except that was something only the Domain Administrator in a different country could do so wouldn't have helped me in this case.

Yeah this is definitely not something I'd use for my own personal use, what a shit show of an application this is. I really don't like the idea of not knowing 100% where my data actually is. When I opened it, I thought this was just going to act like a network share where I can put what I want on it, not start syncing my entire PC to the cloud without my consent.

A couple weeks back my .edu email account that I have had for over 20 years suddenly stopped getting mail. I called the helpdesk and they told me all former student accounts that hadnt been enrolled for 4 semesters were having their accounts closed. Didnt I get the email? Nope. Turns out their automated notification sent in december never went out to anyone. Being the generous people they are they just reactivated my account and are now giving me 3 weeks to transition off of this account.
Ya, this is going to be a mess. This email is tied to all my banks, CC's, and god knows what else.

Eating a loaded baked potato from a Mexican food truck, I maybe am 1/3rd of the way thru it and I already feel like I might be unable to do anything that involves moving for a solid 4 hours. God bless the people who can eat an entire one of these in a single sitting.

That sucks. That's a big reason I got off ISP email. I guess there's no guarantees with anything, but I don't like relying on web services that are provided as an addon rather than their primary reason for being.
