The only "fun" stuff I've bought in a looong time is the crossbow I recently got. I guess the winch also, but that's weird convergence of fun, need, and money maker. Otherwise, it's food and household necessities.
Last month I did pick up a Steam Deck when they were on sale for $320. If it will get me using an OS other than windows it will be worth the money. I've also set it up with emudeck so a ton of content is available if you're willing to do the work.

With the winch, you could build a very large crossbow.
Playing with the crossbow, I started thinking of what it would take to send something like a telephone pole downrange. Put an iron tip on it, and you have a towable(?) breaching bow.

I'm soldering circuit boards and this is a rude reminder that I'm getting old. My eye sight to see small things is not as good as it used to be. I shouldn't be struggling this bad with TO92 packages, it's not even SMD! To be fair, the footprint I used is really not great, there's really not much solder mask between the pins so keep causing bridging. I will use a better footprint next time. These are not driving much current, can get away with a smaller annular ring.

When I do SMD I think I will opt to get the manufacturer to pick and place them for me.

I haven't tried it in a while, but I bet I can still solder 0402 components without any magnification.

Taco Bell is about the only fast food I can eat and they stopped selling the two things I get - double decker taco and seven layer burrito. I'd understand if they needed special ingredients, but they're just the same core things they put in other items... they just refuse to put them in a particular order and sell them to me.

Upgraded Chromecast to Google TV Streamer and the new device is telling me that my USB hub is not powerful enough to run it. I sacrificed a random charging block and plugged it in but now I want to buy a more powerful USB hub. 😑

I love my chromecast but the voice search via remote just stopped working. Considering an Apple TV streamer if there's a good bf/cm deal.

What are the major differences between chromecast and google tv streamer?

I was running out of space so I upgraded. I'm also hoping the experience is a little smoother switching between screens, apps, etc. as it has a faster CPU and more RAM. The old Chromecast with Google TV will be reassigned to another TV.

On day 2 of a tree job today, and my partner took a bigger piece than it looked from the ground. I didn't have enough wraps on my friction device. Burned through my glove, and I got two blisters...

Bonus problem is machines were being a pita. Yesterday I turned off the chipper, and when I went to restart it, it wouldn't start. Do something else for 10 minutes, try again, and it starts right up. Today my partner called for a bigger saw. I get his saw out, pull and pull, but it won't start. I go get my saw to send up, try his one last time for kicks, and it starts right up :^S

Owe. Had something similar when I took my sister's dog for a walk. That dog goes completely insane if he sees another dog so I held on the leash to keep him close to me when one was passing by but I didn't hold it hard enough and it just zipped right through my skin when he ran towards the other dog. Now I know better to hold him by the collar and not just try to hold the leash.

Thought of another fwp. I can't back a trailer up for shit. It's embarrassing. A 30 point turn to get the dumb thing where I want it. Had a minor ordeal getting the chipper out of the job site, and it took way too many tries getting it in my driveway when I got home.

I learned that double axle trailers are infinitely easier to back than single axle. Get a bigger chipper. ;)

Edit: Three axles should be even easier!

I'd like to have one you can stuff a whole tree in, but that's a whole different class of operation than I have. There's a lot to be said for being light and nimble. Requires more manual labor, but you don't have a bunch of iron that *requires* jobs to pay their upkeep.

I'm by no means an expert at backing up a trailer, but I've found car trailers or trailers in general where you can actually see behind is easier to back than a travel trailer. I've pulled our TT 4-6x a year since 2014 and still need help backing it in sometimes. I've tried to get my wife and daughter to help me, but ultimately, they're useless :tearsofjoy:

I have a few little problems that make it harder. I still can't backup for shit, but the problems increase the difficulty even further. I have a backrack on the truck, and the previous owner applied cling film tinting. That's great in normal driving, but trying to backup in dim light makes it hard to see. Everything's dim and hazy. Second big one is stuff disappears behind the chipper. I can't see over it, so I can't tell when I'm ready to run over someone's mailbox or something. Last thing is it's a long setup. Truck's an extended cab with a full length bed, and the chipper's pretty long on top of it(not sure of the exact length), so it's hard to turn around in a road.

I get the general idea of backing a trailer, but I frequently hit the point of no return where there's no amount of of turning I can do to correct the alignment, and I have to straighten it out and try again. I'm hoping I get better with time, but so far I haven't been making much progress.

Practice, practice, practice. I’ve taken a few people to the mall, set up a few orange cones and taught them how to back up trailers. Fifth wheels, travel trailers, even single-axle utility trailers. For me, longer and 2 or 3 axles is MUCH easier than a short single-axle utility or Uhaul trailer.

I definitely need to practice too. I did manage to backup my 4x8 all the way at the end of my parent's yard though and was surprised I managed especially with my dad watching lol. They have a pad mount transformer right next to the driveway too so that was definitely something I had to take my time with. Was wanting to bring it to my property but we got hit with snow while I was working so couldn't until it was too late. I originally built it to pull with the ATV at my property but end up using it with the truck more. I kind of want to look at getting like a 20 footer flat bed now, as I got an estimate to get lumber delivered to my off grid land and it's like $600+ per trip.

Cleaned out my cat's water fountain and when I went to replace the filters, the box of filters that I bought previously is gone. I have no idea where it went. Can't find it, checked every drawer cupboard everywhere. I know there was some left the last time I used them. Funny thing is something told me I should check BEFORE I clean it and throw out the old filters but I knew I had bought some already. Go to open the cupboard that I normally store it in and it's not there.

I don't really want to run the fountain without a filter as it might mess up the impeller so guess the cats are getting just a water bowl for now. Ordered more from Amazon.

I'm actually super annoyed at this because it's not the first time I've had stuff just completely vanish like that and that saying where you end up finding it as soon as you buy another, doesn't apply to me. It's really gone. Just where? It just makes no sense. I've lost tools this way before never to see them again.

Rinse out the old filters and reuse them(assuming you can recover them from the trash). I use a filter 3 times before I toss it. I clean the fountain every two weeks.

Why the hell do you need a water filter for your cat? Municipal water is safe for human consumption, how special are your cats?

Software licensing is annoying as shit, I went to look it up for one program I use at work today and they've changed it yet again. When I first started working the license was perpetual, eventually they went to a yearly license and didn't even have a subscription option which was annoying. Now I see they have a perpetual option again in addition to the yearly one, but who knows when they'll decide to just get rid of the perpetual license again.

I think part of the filters job is keeping the pump from getting clogged, but year I doubt an animal that cleans its ass with its tongue really needs a water filter.
