All banks are fractional reserve. I just looked up what bank reserve requirements are and for most banks (more than 110M in "transaction accounts," it's 10% but for smaller banks, it's only 3%

Yeah windows are crazy expensive now. I had a bedroom window with a broken seal and I got a quote to replace the whole thing just to see and I opted to just replace the pane. They wanted around the same amount and replacing just the pane was like $200.
 
I've been planning on driving over to the Puget Sound region to buy a used office chair...about 100-150 miles, depending on the location. (Steelcase or Haworth...not a fan of the mesh Aerons) Shitty, cold weather has kept me home so far...black ice and the possibility of snow)
THEN, RPD (over at "that other site") brought up something I hadn't even considered...

I have a 2nd story bathroom window that's similar to this:

The joints between the blocks are failing...and the window leaks when it rains heavily...plus, one of the block is about 1/4 full of water. <sigh>
We both hate that window...the privacy aspect is pretty good, but you can't open it for bathroom ventilation.

Talked to a contractor friend about replacing it. A normal "side sliding" window cost me a bit over $400...and the labor to install it will be around $500. The house has vinyl siding...so it's gonna be a real PITA to change the window out. Requires a "slide-in" window instead of the usual nail-fin type of window. Once it warms up...that will be happening.
 
Must be acrylic block instead of glass. Recaulking is easy, but if one is cracked, it can't really be fixed. Some of them have a vent hole though, so recaulking MIGHT solve it IF you could fully drain it.

But why privacy block on the second floor? I have them on the first floor on two front areas, but only as accents where I want to allow light in but don't want to add blinds.

Second floor complicates everything for labor. Ladders and scaffolding and such.

Yeah, most likely acrylic. Privacy because it's in a bathroom...right over the bathtub. (even though behind our house is a state wildlife wetlands...there are OCCASIONALLY humans out there)
I considered trying to recaulk the thing...but honestly, we just want it gone. It will be nice to be able to open the window for ventilation. The old "fart fans" only do so much.

Usually a 4" straight smoothbore pipe. I replaced a bathroom fan and could not do a thing to the pipe, it was like zinc pipe. So I just foil tape formed the adapter as best I could.


Then wife renoed the house...

Our house in CA had (IIRC) the crappy 3" flex pipe. I've lived in this house for 6 years...have never opened the attic access panels. I have 3 fart fans in the two upstairs bathrooms, (master bath is "divided" with the shower in its own area,) then one fart fan in the downstairs 1/2 bath and one exhaust fan in the laundry room. PROBABLY all tie into one shitty little pipe to the exhaust vent.
