I bought a Sophos XG 115 to put Opnsense on it and I thought this was going to be a quick and easy thing and then I can swap it out with my prod one and be done, but it's nothing but.

First try, I go to do the upgrade and it trashes the whole install and I lost access to the admin interface. Had to reinstall. Restore backup, and it sorta does the same but not as bad. Traffic is only passing when it feels like, and it's just acting really strange. The WAN interface seems to not want to pass most traffic, can't even send out DNS queries even after adding a full pass rule.

I don't think I am ready to trust this in production even if I do get it working as it seems to be fragile. I don't know if it's a hardware issue or Opnsense issue at this point. I might try Pfsense to see if I get better luck. Was hoping to do Opnsense though as it's more open source friendly. Pfsense went commercial.

Not really a FWP but I dont see the "I might murder someone" thread.

The boy has been working on his initial thesis presentation for a 3 person panel for several weeks. Wednesday, his prof tells him that he wants him to go in another direction, more complicated and my son didn't fully understand it. He's somewhat passive and went with it. Well, he failed. He gets a do over in 2 weeks. If he fails again, he's out of grad school. What the damn eff?

His prof admitted he messed up and the other 2 were very supportive, telling him that he can see them anytime so he gets this straight. They want him to succeed. He's smart enough (like his Ma) to do the work. Just have to get past this hurdle.

Put some lemon squash into a cup with the intention of making some hot lemon drink, and left it by the kettle. Then absent-mindedly forgot what I was doing and decided to make some instant coffee. Put instant coffee into cup, added boiling water, then remembered that was the cup with lemon squash in it. Optimistically hoped I'd invented a new lemon coffee concoction that would soon be available in Starbucks, and tried it anyway. Revolting - completely undrinkable.

I was three years into my PhD program when my advisor announced that my project was out of money and I’d have to find a new one. I was done with course work and had passed the qualifying exam by then. I walked away.

Thats the messed up thing about grad school. So sorry, we're broke. Sis in law's niece was 4th year at FSU and her prof leaves for Rice so her choice was to move to TX or take her masters.

Granted Penn is paying for school and paying him to be there.

Yeah, his prof is hurting for funds too. I'll ask the kid if he can change profs. Only 1 year in.

I haven't been keeping up with the snuff world, and got an email notification that the last Bernard(founded 1733) German product is up for sale at a fairly steep premium. If I had been paying closer attention, I'd have seen they were going out of business, and I could've stocked up at a better price,. The recipes have been bought by a British blender, but it's unlikely to be the same as the German made product. Oh well. I'm $164 poorer, but I'll at least have a buffer. Interested in trying the British blends. I hope they do them well, but I'm doubtful.

Girlfriend of 2 months said she needed to pause/end our relationship to "find herself and nourish her friendships". Pretty first worldish problem is you ask me. I can't imagine some guy in Gaza or Libya right now getting from his GF.

I'm pretty ripped up about it but I think my brain and my soul are starting to get on the same page. Plus I think 80% chance she'll be back at some point (or maybe I'm being a cocky son of a gun).

Another port on my KVM switch at work died. Down to 2 ports now. I only use it between 2 PCs but once another port dies then this thing is a paperweight. I have 2 of the same KVMs at home and both started to do that too. It's a piss off since I paid a lot for these. They were working well for a few years until they started to do that all around the same time.

Bought a new keyboard today, I knew it wasn't RGB like my other one. But now it's night and I'm struggling more than I should be to type in the dark :(

Got a circuit trouble while I was eating fast food so it got cold. Fast food just never warms up right either. I was almost done, but still annoying.

When I saw the address I realized it was for our hydro substation so probably not something to fluff to the morning. They really wanted a call out and insisted that it was hard down and that there was power to the equipment, so had to go through the list and start calling out. I reached someone who was ready to go.

As I'm hanging up I get another call, it's the customer and they say to cancel the ticket, because it was fixed a week ago! They just told me it was down and now it's suddenly been up for a week? Typical lol.

Speaking of packages I missed the door for one a few days ago so got a notice it was at Shopper's Drug Mart for pickup next business day. I went to pick it up before my shift today... turns out it's at the OTHER Shoppers Drug Mart. That one close early, so I will have to try again tomorrow. If I miss this time it probably gets sent back...

They also open late, so I can't really get it in the morning after my shift either since I need to sleep. I'm on night shift.

I went to the gas station late last night and it was closed. I don't understand why some gas stations turn their pumps off at night. You'd think they could be 24/7 if its just taking a credit card and dispensing fuel.

Umm, they don't know if it is up or down?

It's terrible. The way these work is that company A buys the circuit from Company B, Company B buys it from company C, which then buys it from us. Sometimes there's even more layers. Company B is the one that will call us because of a trouble report company A put in weeks ago but they are not actually the ones who have access to the equipment they're just a middleman.

99% of the time it's a physical problem at the customer's end too. My favourite is when you get them to verify power and they say everything is good, and then it turns out it was in fact a power issue.

There was a recent one that was actually pretty funny. The problem was that the fibre cable was not plugged in. Troubleshooting 101 right there. Always start at layer 1. Nope they call us first lol. There was several days worth of troubleshooting and running around for nothing that went into that one.

My girl started watching VicTORIous on Netflix and now I can't determine if Ariana Grande's voice is naturally that irritating or if it's an affectation.

copy/paste from another forum...

I just startled awake. I go to sleep listening to atmospheric/ambient/space music, and it can sometimes use slow uncommon effects. So, I wakeup and think "fuck, that sounds creepy. I've never heard this track before" and I'm laying there listening... "That didn't come from my speakers!" O.O

Grab my glasses, look up(I have dim nightlight on) and there's a bat flying laps around the room, and occasionally landing on the curtains. Literally roll out of bed, duck, and go turn the ceiling fan off. While I'm sitting on the floor watching the bat fly, I close the door so it doesn't get out. Doing laps, doing laps, lands on a fan blade. Doesn't move. Grab a box frm a lamp I just bought, put it over the bat, close the flap, then take it outside. Even easier than the last one!(or is it the same bat fucking with me?!).

Where the hell are these things coming from? Now I'm wired and typing dumb messages on forums. It'll be awhile before I get back to sleep. To top it off, I was having a weird dream about my ex when the bat woke me. Can't remember what that was about, but I was annoyed... :^S
