Like the other half-wits in this thread, you've latched on to my not tipping in that scenario and assumed that I simply don't tip, calling me cheap. Congratulations, I guess.
I never said I never tip. In fact, I've said over and over in this thread that I'll tip when they've earned it and I tip very well. However, I don't like the half-assed attitude that too many people in the customer service industry have at most places I go. I won't reward sub-standard service.
If you and I ever manage to go out to a restaurant together, you're more than welcome to leave a tip based on your evaluation of the establishment's customer service skill. It's your money, you do what you want with it. Give $100,000 tip on a $5 order for all I care. I guarantee that person isn't going to be working there the next day. Bitching about not getting enough tips just shows that you're more interested in money than your job (customer service) in which case I'd suggest that you find another line of work. Maybe a job you actually
like to do?
Do you think calling me cheap actually insults me or something? Do you think calling me cheap fixes the ass-backwards system of tipping? You don't give good service because you get a tip, you get a tip because you give good service. If you're not getting tips, work harder.
Arguements that side with the employer being responsible for offering higher pay and theh employee being responsible for either accepting the paycheck or going to work somewhere else is based on logic.
Arguements that side with the "poor waiter" who doesn't make enough money on their paycheck and refuse to find alternative employment instead of taking their mistake (keeping the job) out on the customer are irrational and not based on logic.
Red,
Have you ever been a bartender? I think you'd make a kickass bartender

I thought about bartending for fun, but I can't see myself doing it for very long so I'm not going to bother.
