The 4.6 is actually a much better motor than the LS1 or 5.0. The LS1 cannot handle boost like the LT1 due to its higher compression. I know a guy running 16 lbs or boost on a stock cobra block and the valve covers have never been touched on his motor. BTW the 95 still had the 5.0 just as the 88-95s did. So what are your reasons for calling the 4.6 crap? I am interested in hearing this.

I'd like to rephrase your statement and say 4.6 or anyother lower compression engines are better than LS1 or other high compression engine for the forced inductions.

Other then said advantage, I wouldn't say 4.6 is MUCH BETTER engine than LS1.

Since my preference is N/A engine, I would much prefer LS1 over 4.6...There are many N/A LS1s putting down over 400RWHP in LS1.com and LS1Tech.com.

Botton line is, type of engine prefence is all about what direction you want to take in order to increase HP/TQ output.

There are 4.6 NA people running in the 10's and 11's just like the LS1s. What is scary is that it is both DOHC and SOHC! Also I still like the LS1 but I prefer the LT1 as it is much easier to work on, get parts for and is less expensive. The aftermarket for the 4.6 has exploded and it is becoming very cheap to work and mod them.

Hey I totally respect the LS1, LT1 and LS6. I hate that the General discontinued the F-bodies. Hopefully the GTO will give Ford some competition.

Yeah, you are absolutely right about LT1, as matter of fact, LT1 seems to be stronger at lower end of rpm.

Yup, it sucks for F-Body enthusiasts. Hopefully GM will come up with another rear wheel drive muscle car. GTO looks to be pretty decent car, but I'd rather buy Cobra than GTO,
I'm not into brand loyalty.

Neither am I and once again I agree. The shop that is doing my work caters mainly to GM. My mechanic has a big ass turbo on a built LT1 with a sheetmetal intake. I believe the turbo iis a t-68. It is a wicked car.

1996 Nissan Maxima - 206,000 miles!
2000 Acura Integra - 23,000 miles

Pics of the Acura:

The Nissan can be seen in the background of pic 2.

I'd like to get rid of both of them for a Supra!

One word for engines running high compression with boost: detonation. Secondly, a Cobra is the market for a Z28 and a 03 cobra will destroy a 03 Z28/SS or Trans Am.

Edit- I will line my car up NA vs a LS1 anyday and still win.

Isn't that why you would want to run 110+ octane in an application like that?

You still never replied on your reasoning for saying the 4.6 was crap? I am earnestly waiting.

That is a great truck. I wanted one when I was younger. I'd still love to have one in good shape, but the wife won't allow it. Something about being old. I don't know. (I'd also have a hard time swallowing the gas mileage.)
