What are you trying to buy but can't?

The look has kinda grown on me. If ever I fix up my truck I might actually do a design like this, flat panels are way easier to fabricate. 😛

I still say they should have made it single cab long box though and it would also look better. Same design, but the "peak" would be closer forward, and it would actually be more usable as a truck too. It seems all the auto makers are not making long box trucks anymore though, but trying to make mini vans.

my car is also getting old and uncomfortable but the supply of those is very thin too, and i don't want to test drive during COVID
My grandson found a truck he was interested in, when no one was buying, and dealers were hungry. The dealer wanted to be sure he was a likely buyer, because after every test drive, they would clean the interior and then quarantine the vehicle for 3 days before they would let another perspective buyer test drive.

He bought the truck, got a deal as they weren't selling much as this what the height of the lock-down and got a deal, plus some additional services in the service department. This was a 2-year-old truck on a new truck dealers lot.

I just found out that I won't likely be getting solar panels by the end of the year. No panels worth buying are available. There isn't much difference to me between a December install and a Jan/Feb install. But it will make taxes way different than I had planned for this year and next.

After starting a car search in mid-February and putting a deposit down in early April, I finally got my new car: took 6 months from deposit. However, they still owe me an extra key fob because they are rationing chips (probably saving for the higher margin vehicles). I overheard the dealer also saying that 90% or more of their inbound vehicles are practically sold before they even hit the lot.

Cybertruck. C'mon Musk, hook me up!!

That's more because Musk and his overblown vaporware promises than because of supply chain issues.

Got close to buying a used slightly dented M1 Macbook for $571. One hour before the agreed time, the seller calls and breaks the wonderful news that he sold it to someone else for $25 more.

more and more, COVID is teaching me to do without

i've stopped thinking about buying a house or a vehicle or a piano or anything else i want

my recreational spending has dropped to almost nothing in the past 2 years and my savings rate has hit almost %80 of after-tax income

maybe by 2030 things will be back to normal and i'll start spending some money

Watcha get watcha get?!? 😛

*(my apologies for slacking if you mentioned it earlier in the thread!)
Lol, I did mention it in another thread, but not in this one. Elantra Hybrid, blue trim, in gray exterior/gray interior; replaced our only car - a 10-year-old Ford Fusion.

One day, we'd like to get an electric or PHEV, but our current living arrangement has only limited charging, and since my spouse is in med school, we don't know what the charging situation will look like in 2-3 years once she starts residency in whatever place that might be.

I have the opposite problem. I just started getting into inline skating. I have small, narrow feet. I'm currently wearing double socks, one pair is medium thick and one pair is very heavy winter hiking socks. I'm considering adding a third pair, but my feet are already fiery infernos while working out in those two pairs. Even with those two pairs, and the skate laces as tight as they go, I have a hard time learning skills when I move my body and the feet just rotate within the skates without applying any different forces to the wheels.

Maybe I need to get into making my own skates too.
Inlines are enjoying a comeback, watched a fabulous video yesterday the central theme of which was their immense popularity followed by a virtual disappearance when skateboarding came on in the early 2000's. I'll see if I can find it...

Yes, it's called Why Rollerblading Died:

Annoyingly now that you mention it I actually DO recall this! 😉

Congrats.... the new Elantra is a nice looking car! 🙂
(I loved my 2014)

It's funny that you chose this color picture: that was the color we originally asked for, but in September when the dealer got an unclaimed allocation, they asked if I'd be willing to take a dark gray instead, and the rest is history.

This the one? 🙂 (the below pictured is a 2023)

I like the metallic paint better than the "wet concrete" look on the other one myself.

Yeah, that looks like what we got, sans sun roof (because I didn't want the limited edition). This was our second choice color anyway (and I could say it was a toss-up anyway); dealership required a single selection for their allocation system when we put the deposit down.

I haven't had trouble buying anything. I've been able to get whatever I wanted without delay. I plan accordingly and wait for the right deal.

I've never bought a new car and never will, so it's just a matter of picking what I want off the used lots.

There have been a couple of small items that were perpetually out of stock, but I eventually found out they had been discontinued and replaced with a new version at a better price.

I keep waiting for Aldi to bring back the spiral Applegate hams… we don’t really like turkey & chicken prices are outrageous. I want ham for Thanksgiving dinner!

^^^ Can you put a 10' stick of pipe fully inside in either of those? No? No reason to have either of them then.
Is this a joke that I don't get the reference to? A lot of cars can fit 10' pipes (I've done that with both my Civic and my Camry). Just fold down the trunk. It will come close to hitting the windshield and just barely let the trunk close, but 10' objects usually fit. Note: I don't have an Elantra, but a quick google search shows that models a few years older had no problem with 10' 2x4s.
