I don't see chicken prices any higher than usual. Store not too far from me is selling thighs and drums for .99/b. I can still get boneless/skinless breasts for $2/lb most of the time.

Now eggs? That's a different story. Ain't NO way I'll pay $3 or more a dozen. I'll let 'em rot on the shelf.

Is this a joke that I don't get the reference to? A lot of cars can fit 10' pipes (I've done that with both my Civic and my Camry). Just fold down the trunk. It will come close to hitting the windshield and just barely let the trunk close, but 10' objects usually fit. Note: I don't have an Elantra, but a quick google search shows that models a few years older had no problem with 10' 2x4s.

I believe he's referring to a thread from quite a ways back where the size of truck-beds became a hot topic of debate specifically in reference to the "vaporware" Tesla Cyber-Truck, the Rivian and the Ford Maverick not being "real trucks"?

Sorry too lazy to search for it. :)

$3 or more a dozen

Eggs for $3 per dozen sounds like a fantastic deal compared to what I've been seeing lately.

Average real prices were closer to twice that much for a dozen when I was in the grocery-store YESTERDAY.

If you see quality & fresh large/ex-large eggs at that price for a dozen I suggest you stock up.

Last time I bought eggs was at about .89/dzn and that wasn't very long ago. I'll simply do without. There are substitutes for baking that are better for you and add flavor ... applesauce is one.

I can put a 10' stick of something in my '95 Taurus wagon without changing it in any way like laying a seat or opening a hatch. I can get a 12' stick of some things in if they'll bend a bit.

Talcum baby/body powder not made in China. I can order it off of Amazon, but it seems B&M stores have stopped carrying anything besides cornstarch type, which I can't stand.

I knew J&J had announced they would no longer market talc powder in the US, but I didn't think other brands would disappear as well. Maybe J&J was the manufacturer on all of them, idk.
Got close to buying a used slightly dented M1 Macbook for $571. One hour before the agreed time, the seller calls and breaks the wonderful news that he sold it to someone else for $25 more.
At least he called, right? Better than leaving you hanging in the wind. And I agree that you're likely better off.

You drive a '95 Taurus wagon? :p

Somehow I'm not surprised.... mid-90's Taurus's/Sables were nearly Fords undoing.

Yeah and a '96 Chrysler Sebring with less than 100K. The wagon only has about 135K.

Bet you got those cheap..... or at least I hope so!

And I wouldn't use the word "only" in reference to anything over 100k on any '90's Ford that wasn't a truck. (even those rotted horribly)

Having said that, just because those models are "bottom-feeders" in terms of being good cars, it doesn't mean you can't still "drive them till the wheels fall off". ("New" cars are a ripoff)

I get groceries delivered…a whole chicken was $15 at Aldi, thighs and drumsticks usually run me between $6-$8 per package

At my local Stop & Shop a Perdue 7-9lb roaster is over $20 (!!) full-price and currently on sale for $14.50.

A store-brand 4-5lb roaster however is $8.50 and an organic bird the same size is approx $1 more.

This assumes buying at the store and thus does not include any fees. (or sales tax)

Don't eat a lot of eggs so I buy the Vital Farms pasture raised, 8 bucks a dozen. All that free range and cage free stuff is just marketing, it doesn't really mean anything. Only pasture raised means the chickens were at least raised with some space

I have the opposite problem. I just started getting into inline skating. I have small, narrow feet. I'm currently wearing double socks, one pair is medium thick and one pair is very heavy winter hiking socks. I'm considering adding a third pair, but my feet are already fiery infernos while working out in those two pairs. Even with those two pairs, and the skate laces as tight as they go, I have a hard time learning skills when I move my body and the feet just rotate within the skates without applying any different forces to the wheels.

Maybe I need to get into making my own skates too.
What brand are you using? Speed skates have moldable boots that were really tight when I first got them. A lot of those brands make custom boots too but those are pretty damn pricey.

It was just an impulse purchase when I was in a sporting goods store. Didn't even research it beyond asking the skating expert what he'd recommend. Ended up getting the K2 Kinetic 80s. https://k2skates.com/en-us/p/kinetic-80-mens-inline-skates

K2 didn't even have size 8 when I bought them (still out of stock everywhere) -- and certainly not size 8 narrow. If I keep this up, I'll get something higher-end and know what I need for my skating skills (or lack thereof).

I /think/ aldi is still < $1/dz for eggs. I don't pay close attention. I usually get farm eggs, and they were $2.50/dz quite awhile ago. I'd be surprised if they jumped too much. I don't eat many eggs, but I do need to get some. I might make a drive this weekend to get some winesap apples, and I'll pickup some eggs. I'll see what they cost then.

Escorts from that era run like champs, I feel like they didn't fare quite as badly for rust as the Taurus did. I owned two of the Escort wagons from 97-99 and they didn't give me any trouble (once I replaced the temperature sensor on the first one). Not saying they're good cars, but for utilitarian purposes, I didn't have any real complaints.

Depends on which version you mean.... the Mazda-built Ford Escort/Mercury Tracer which started in 1991 was actually a pretty good little car.

The earlier Ford-built Escort OTOH was a complete POS. It literally almost single-handedly did in the market for domestic-built small cars. (as evidenced by its Japanese replacement)

Not a speck of rust on either of mine.

Having run fleets of vehicles that consisted mainly of Ford and/or Lincoln products for a good 30 years I can tell you with absolute certainty that body-rot is a serious problem in the majority of 1990's Ford products.

Having said that ANY car can be "just fine" for transportation provided it starts when you turn the key.

The Sebring is just "dull" not terrible with the anemic 4-cylinder it came standard with. The 6-cylinder version OTOH was a bit faster BUT was also absurdly complex to work on thanks to zero space in the engine-bay to get tools/fingers plus it had major transmission issues.

I stand corrected. Went to aldi today, and eggs were $3.32/dz. Will probably go to the farm tomorrow, maybe later today.

Told ya. ;)

(worst part is that +/- $3 a dozen is a decent price these days)

The wagon has various assorted dings and cosmetic issues expected for a 27 year old vehicle. It ain't purdy, but it runs when I turn the key. Usually. It has had problems.

The Sebring has the 6. No, you don't what to change plugs unless you really, really have to. AC doesn't work. Top does go down. Less dings and cosmetic flaws, looks decent.

Until they die, I have no reason to seek anything else.

I was getting eggs at Aldi for under a buck until not too long ago. Made a special trip there (not an area I go to often), saw their new prices. Left without buying anything. Not planning on going back any time soon.
