Actually it was a pretty good party and concert song back in the 70's. We were all pretty stoned most of the time back then and were amped that we were listening to a band from next door rather than another British band. Literally they were from the school district next to mine.

It was GFRs obligatory commercial hit. I think it charted at 2 in the US billboard 200 and 1 in the Billboard hot 100.

There have been tons of stupid songs released in my lifetime. "We're An American Band" doesn't come close to my standard for stupid. It was just a relatively simple song that gave a little glimpse of the life of a touring rock band in 1973. Oh and It rocked!!! by 1973 standards.
