Grand Funk Railroad paved the way for Jefferson airplane, which cleared the way for Jefferson starship. The stage was now set for The Alan Parson's Project, which I believe was some sort of hovercraft.

This was the best song - easy to play and had the cool cowbell drum intro

Yep! That was one of those mandatory "it's the law" songs that every band had to play. If you'd play at a party with a few other bands, you'd hear everybody's version of it.

American Band, Smoke on the Water... there were a few "mandatory" songs. I sure loved those days, playing in a garage band and at parties. The 70's were a lot of fun.
