I was just thinking that there is a most excellent Onion article in that song. "Town takes up band's offer of help to party down."

The wild shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The competent drum work of Don Brewer? Oh man....

this too

Grand Funk Railroad paved the way for Jefferson airplane, which cleared the way for Jefferson starship. The stage was now set for The Alan Parson's Project, which I believe was some sort of hovercraft.

I take it you never had your own garage band back in the 70's?
This was the best song - easy to play and had the cool cowbell drum intro

What more can you ask to get the beer keg crowd going 🙂

Yep! That was one of those mandatory "it's the law" songs that every band had to play. If you'd play at a party with a few other bands, you'd hear everybody's version of it.

American Band, Smoke on the Water... there were a few "mandatory" songs. I sure loved those days, playing in a garage band and at parties. The 70's were a lot of fun.
