i went to eat at a food truck today

i was the only person with a mask on besides the truck staff, but it wasn't a problem for anyone

if people don't wear masks then i'm ambivalent at this point, got my shots months ago

and nobody seems to care if i wear one

so /thread i guess

It really seems to depend on the location. Here in Connecticut, they're still enforcing the mask rule on public transit and hospitals with an iron fist. People seem to still wear them when going to pharmacies as well, which isn't a bad idea because they're giving COVID-19 vaccinations there.

So you admit the original post I responded to was wrong? CDC never said "No reason to have a mandate if you have a readily available option to avoid a potentially fatal disease" and they never dropped the guidance for unvaxxed people.

Without some method of enforcing masks on the unvaxxed, it's impossible to follow the CDC guidelines without a general requirement.

Also vaccination rates are not high enough for herd immunity in any state.

I never said unvaxxed didn't need to mask. If my post wasn't that clear on the distinction, it's bc it's been widely discussed and assumed to be common knowledge. It's clarified and am moving on.

Disagree on point #2. Unmasked, unvaxed is a danger to themselves. No need to police. Few are looking to do it. Good luck setting up a nanny state to try and do it. Waste of time and the Trumpies will blast you for it.

#3 There is no magical threshold for herd immunity, and it's not precisely established now anyway. What we do know are the rates, and they are very low. No widespread community transmission for any major area in the USA. Given there is widespread natural immunity from recent infections (over 100M), as well as high rates of at least first dose (which is rather effective two weeks out) in many states that have their shit together, the low rates we see can be a sign of limited ability of the virus to spread.

MA has 65% with first dose for the general public, and even higher for the elderly, who were 80% of all deaths. Positivity at just over 1% and per capita new cases lowest level in a year. Then go add in the naturally immune from previous infection.

People were freaking the F out about TX and FL dropping mandates earlier in the spring. Where are all the piles of dead bodies and overflowing morgues? No, TX just recorded first day with 0 deaths in over a year. Fucking TX.

Vaccines are widely available, and any adult who wanted could have over by now.

If you can't or won't get vaccinated, then wear a mask. Wear one if you still want to. But you don't need to if you are vaccinated and not in a high risk environment. At this point, very few areas are.

F are we waiting for here?

It's fear not science driving hesitancy moving forward.

This is false, obviously, since 15% of the population is ineligible for vaccination. No nanny state needed, companies need to go a backbone and mandate for employees, especially health care, first responders, military teachers and schools/colleges need to mandate it. All of those already mandate a whole slew of other vaccinations.

Also obviously the CDC is still concerned about it, since they still say unvaxxed needs to be masked.

We still have more community spread than we did 12 months ago. Just because we got used to 4,000 people dying a day doesn't mean 500 is no big deal.

And again, 15% of the population can not be vaccinated. So the unvaxxed dumbshits are not just a risk to themselves.

BTW: I agree with the CDC guidance, I disagree with everyone pretending they said unmask everyone/everywhere. It's not denying science to agree with the fucking CDC and disagree with dumbshit anti-masker/anti-vaxxers.

Further, if we were actually enforcing what the CDC said, the vaccination rates would go way up and we could be done with this for good, instead of having a slow burn and variant incubator.

ETA: Both Florida and Texas had spikes after they "removed" the mandates, and Florida is still one of the worst states, although they are coming down like everyone else now. Also their anti-mandate mandates were almost completely ignored on the local level, for example the counties around Orlando just removed their restrictions this week.

Bingo. The Covid death rate from July 2020 to Nov 2020 was very close to the death rate we are still seeing. In addition, after declining rapidly from the mid winter peak, the rate is almost flat now.

Ever notice the people most likely to talk about how we shouldn't be afraid of COVID are the same people that conceal carry and leave loaded guns around their house?

To be fair, other humans may be, historically the leading cause of death for humans.

I very much doubt that human violence overtake infectious diseases, unless you are looking at very narrow specific points in time.

Especially if you look at non-war violence. But the Spanish Flu killed more people than WWI. More people died of diseases in the Civil War than from enemy action. More people died of COVID in the US than every US war after WWI combined.

Many adults seem to be forgetting (or just plain not giving a shit about) kids under 16-18 yo who've not been vaccinated yet.

I guess they're entirely immune...just like Donnie said...amirite? Not like children have strange, inflammatory reactions from COVID infections that lead to death or anything. No no no.

In many states, ~50% of eligible adults are fully vaccinated now, give or take a little. These rates are nowhere CLOSE to what is needed for herd immunity. They are projecting Autumn of this year for herd immunity in WI, and that's a liberal estimate (the soonest they expect it could be valid).

edit: fwiw, many areas are incorporating younger ages now, down to 12 if I recall correctly...but approval for it did not occur overnight, much less actually getting the doses into the arms of teenagers.

It'll take another few months, and that's basically just covering high school age minors. There are still smaller kids that need protective measures in the meantime, unless of course they aren't important enough to protect?

Thats only selectively enforced.
So it seems you support the idea that Browns and Blacks are allowed to by-pass the rules, while Whites are punished for their crimes?

It also seems you support the removal of section 230.

Yesterday my gym had a new notice saying fully unvaccinated people don't need to wear masks. I probably saw like 10 people maybe who didn't have a mask on.

Today I noticed more people without them on.

I'm still wearing mine though. If I didn't have 2 young kids at home I probably wouldn't though. Still kind of odd seeing people without masks in the gym though after seeing everyone wearing em since last September when I started going back.

That has nothing to do with my post.

Thats only selectively enforced.

How does that make you feel? No big deal right? If some people want to follow the rules and others don’t it not an issue.

Hell, selective enforcement is ok then too, right? So long as the right people are moderated it’s all good, right?

While we are at it…if you ask the mods if they are fair and apply the rules equally they will say yes and of course you won’t disagree with that because they are the ones that write the rules and enforce them…so it must be true!

You agree with all of that right? I’m sure you don’t.

Of course if we change the topic to masks, law enforcement, and “critical race theory”, suddenly you are cool with it.

Show us you aren’t a hypocrite.

Thinly veiled stupidities is showing the usual confirmation bias and sub par acuity. A super quick search reveals some1 dishing it out just as well. You probably knew that though, but maybe if you dont get called out on it - you believe that the subliminal message sets? Is that it? You being “clever”? Bless you.

Was it enforced when you replied to a foul language filled post of mine with your own potty mouth filled reply? Just curious...well not really...

And here's a courteous fuck off and all that for your thinly veiled disingenuous comment above.

Another month in - still a cultist following.

Mid-June every state lifted restrictions - yet plenty of cultists for whatever reason are still indoctrinated into stupidity at a supreme level.

Trump lost the election over 6 months ago, still tens of millions of useless pieces of filth GQP Trumphumpers still think he won. Why are they so indoctrinated into such fascist stupidity at such a supreme level?
