Shouldn't the mods be be held to some kind of guideline to what they can post under their personal account? I'm all for speaking one's mind but I do also believe that a mod should be setting an example for all to follow.

Maybe being a supervisor has got me into that realm of thinking..

Derek has made it clear that we are here to enforce guidelined rules as set forth by AnandTech HQ.. we are not here to serve as youth role models or examples.

Can you really be that dense? You guys sound like 5 year olds whining about the 2 hidden mods when you should be greatfull they have come this far and are even accepting feedback. I know how it is on other forums where mods really are biased and really will ban you for arguing with them over the slightest thing. God forbid you neg a mod (rating system) at bb.com, except an IP ban the next minute, even if he insulted you.

You must be dense to think I had anything to do with changing the system or caring about the system until seeing messages about guidelines being changed and placed public. As an engineer whom deals in documents all day, I do wonder why construct guidelines only to then not follow them.

a written admission that there are two hidden mods. But, whatever...
There are zero hidden mods. All mods have an account that ties to them, and them only. All mods are held accountable by HQ, and always have been. Logs keep track of all bannings, vacations, and thread/post modifications. The major difference now is you, and all other members, know which mod performed an action.

And, it is even better than the Mod 1, Mod 2, Mod 3... idea that a lot of people liked.

EDIT: For those saying that having two of the mods hidden is BS, well I have a question? Why would you care what their actual account is other than to harass them. Now they have an account and you will know what moderation they have done, if you were banned by them etc...

Because it allows a mod an alter ego. One to post with and one to ban with. I have experienced this behavior before from a mod that accidentally(i would assume) sent the moderation email from his personal account.

If you read this thread you can see the situation has changed considerably and I doubt things like that will be happening in the future.

Maybe it has, maybe it has not. Given past behavior from the mods, please forgive me for being a skeptic.
Cool, now you know how we feel about the Administration you so ardently support😉

Then as an engineer you can certainly understand the guide lines are GUIDE lines, not follow these steps 1, 2, 3....

Don't tell him the guidelines came out today and he is talking about actions in the past.

Of course I did. And my answer addressed it. You may not like the answer, but it is the answer nonetheless. We appreciate all the feedback but we feel this is the best way to move forward.

You mean like

Only one account is allowed per person.
From our pool of regular members, we will invite a number to participate on the forums as moderators.
In addition to these changes, all moderator identities will be public.

But hell, I was just reading what some Derek Wilson guy posted. You must have the more current info.

We have already established that the mods say they follow the rules 100% but don't. It's old news, get over it!

But pointing out the hypocrisy is so much fun

Being on the AT moderator radar is the least of my concerns.

I don't really care if certain mods have 'hidden' identities while others are now known, it's fine either way.... but it certainly seems to defeat the purpose of supposedly creating more transparency and accountability.

Having the 'real' list of mods finally out is a good thing, this can stop the stupid rumors etc about who is and who isn't a mod. I'm all for it!

Which has no value for the discussion at hand.

It's going to take me hours to catch up on the latest forum drama.

Anyone got a cliffs version of this dramathon?

---------

1. Member and Moderator guidelines have been publicized.
2. Moderators have had their titles updated to reflect who the mods are.
3. Harvey started this thread.
4. The thread has lots of posts. Some by mods.

AnandTech Moderator Evadman - Question about this mod edit? PM AnandTech Moderator and see The Rules

Mods have all gone public and the rules they are to use to moderate for AT has been published, except some aren't actually going public and have established secondary accounts to moderate from.

We've determined you're still a secret mod and that Casio Tech has been stalking you, he was spotted outside your house mumbling something about Peter Welling's abs? WTF is up with that?

Thus the drama, always the drama!

It definately becomes interesting when there is a big change here. It's better than Desperate Housewives. We should create a new forum just for complaining about the Mods and the rules and call it Hysteria Lane😉

Lets not go there, my wife DVRs that show ;guntohead:

BTW, noticed Dr. Pizza is now a mod and an Elite member! Congrats to him. He and I are both in teaching and share many of the same views on subject matter. Although I think I get the most flack from the people here because I teach at the collegiate level (engineering), and he's in the high school level. Both of us enjoy our summers off though...

Cliffs: They let you have a second account so you don't have to reveal that you're a moderator. 😉
