Was 2010 Microsoft's year?

I made the transition to Win 7 unhappily. They shoulda just dolled up XP or fixed Vista.
Next OS will likely be Linux.

microsoft has separate special research teams, specializing in free os solutions.

how effective, i don't care.

i still think windows xp second edition/equivalent w/upgrades, ready to run from 2011-2021 should be implemented, just as xp did it's decade from 2001-2010/2011, so far.

p.s. i bet the op was hired by microsoft as a stealth-publicist.

and it's not a surprise to anyone at all, Microsoft is pathetic, do you really respect a company that doesn't even create a homegrown weather/clock widget for its OS, it has to rely on third-parties like Yahoo widgets? Do you want to respect a company that never bothered to include an anti-virus program into its expensive OS, or a domestic photo-editing program? 🙄

wtf antivirus program comes with OSx?

oh, I know...the smuggery of being a mac?

I too, would like to see GA unbanned. If you need to balance out the force or something, then I propose considering banning his d-bag brother in trade.
🙂

Or both?

I wish they wouldn't remove what he said to get banned, makes the admin's look pretty draconian.

Their 'year' no, but even Microsoft's lesser years are still enviable. They have room to grow, they just grow less quickly because of a more conservative state of mind and a much broader product base.

I think Apple is on a roll, but is more of a flash in the pan as I think people will eventually become Apple saturated. It'd be interesting to know how much overlap there is between the customer bases of their big three devices.

On one hand they need to keep re-iterating their products to both stay competitive and to exploit the "keeping up with the jones'" buyers, but if they're not careful I think they'll end up blurring the lines between their products, losing customers who feel they can get by with just one idevice instead of two or three.

Over the last five years I'd rather have Apple stock. And probably for the next five years as well. But further back and further beyond than that, I'm going with Microsoft.

I agree. It also makes it that much harder to walk the fine line between appropriate banter and outright bannable offensiveness.

Most definitely. I posted on this forum for 6 years and never got a single ban, even for a day - up until about 3-5 months ago. And then I suddenly got 2-3, 3 day bans in a row.

Was it my posting that changed, or the admins and the forum that did?

As much as I dislike GA, and infinitely more his brother Gayner, Microsoft had a good year.

Yes, Win7 came out last year, but it became apparent this year that it's a damn good OS. If it had bombed like Vista, there would be a lot more serious talk about the end of Microsoft's OS dominance. It was a must win situation and even a good product does not necessarily mean it will be received well.

There's still a lot of the future of Windows Phone 7 to be written, but people wanted to hate this OS. There were endless amounts of articles writing off the OS before it was even released because there apparently isn't room for it and it's too late to the game. Of course, these were the same people 18 months ago who were saying Android is a mess and too fragmented to get any collective support. Windows Phone 7 is a non-Apple take on a phone OS and brings in a legitimately new UI. It's missing some polish and features, but for a whole new OS, it's very nice. It's not going to become the number one phone OS, but I think it will end up with a solid 15-20%.

Kinect is another product that may or may not be ultimately successful but look at it this way: Sony came out with their Move system, and it's fallen flat. Microsoft came out with Kinect, it's sold well, and there's been buzz around it. I think it will be the most successful console add on ever and will probably squeeze a few more years out of the current Xbox.

Look, it's easy to hate on Microsoft. I did it for years but they've really turned around in the last couple years. 2010 was their year in the way that they stopped blowing it and to be honest, that's a big change for them.
