Poor GA and right after his house got robbed. Can't you cut him a break? He has probably had a really bad week.

Maybe you should go look at some of his other posts. He didn't start being a dick just because his house was broken into.

To be honest, I've never seen anyone get so passionate over Microsoft before.

I personally am a GA fan but to each his own. Just saying I feel kind of bad for him right now.

Fair enough. I don't think I could be a fan of anyone so negative and condescending but like you said, to each their own. I definitely don't think just because your house is broken into you get to turn into a raging dick on a forum. I've had my vehicles broken into before - where's my pass?

yet they can't get their stock to move...

and it's not a surprise to anyone at all, Microsoft is pathetic, do you really respect a company that doesn't even create a homegrown weather/clock widget for its OS, it has to rely on third-parties like Yahoo widgets? Do you want to respect a company that never bothered to include an anti-virus program into its expensive OS, or a domestic photo-editing program?

Are you really that dumb? Anyone looking for the weather can go to any one of the eight million weather sites out there. Most of them even have widgets too!

Included anti-virus? Again, there are a ton of free or paid versions. MS offering is also quite good.

Windows has had basic photo editing capabilities since... well, forever. And what's a 'domestic' program anyways?

I hope you were just trolling there but based on your other posts I've read, probably not.

Yeah, there are a million phones with FM radio too, why don't I go and sell my iphone and buy one of those? I want FM radio on my iphone, I could care less who else has it. The same with my Windows XP, it would had been nice if it had a domestic weather and clock widget like the ones from Yahoo.

Don't try to defend them on this front, it's pathetic that for almost 2 decades Windows never had it's own useful anti-virus, it's only a 100 MB program, how hard is to go that extra mile for its customers?

Really? Which one? They are all 3rd-party. Domestic = built-in.

No! GA just came back, had his house robbed, and his kitten died to boot. Now if he gets banned from AT, who knows what he'll do?

Ok, so you really are that dumb. Good to know.

1.) You think it would be nice if there was one built in. Great. I don't. MS decided to let people find their own. Nothing more, nothing less.

2.) Two points here. Up until 2000 (give or take) the internet was not as powerful and rich as it is now. There wasn't as much need then. Second, the next most popular OS, OS X STILL doesn't have A/V built in. GASP! Don't try and say that MacOS is more secure, blah blah blah. It's not. Point is, if you want A/V, find your own solution.

3. Well, Windows XP has Windows Picture and Fax viewer. Granted, the editing capabilities are VERY slim, but it's there. And again, if you want more, go and download any one of the free options available. Finally, if you want the latest version of iPhoto, you have to pay up. Now that I think about it, the iLife suite didn't come with my brand new MBP, either. That doesn't mean Apple is evil and trying to screw its customers. It just means that, like MS, Apple is a business and they like to make money.

I'm not really sure what you're attempting to prove here, other than your own stupidity.

If Microsoft tried to bundle in half the stuff you wanted they'd have even more lawsuits to fight.

Even with the option to pick which browser to install for windows 7 in Europe you still have companies bitching about it.

Microsoft is a powerhouse that isn't going anywhere, and I think Apple is the same way, although I think we'll see Apple transition a bit over the next 24 months or so. Both of their stock prices are overvalued, Apple's somewhat spectacularly so. Apple has some very strong points (app/itunes per unit licensing being pretty massive), and some areas where they're not really that strong (desktops and notebooks market share), and areas where they are pretty much invisible (managed services, cloud hosting, etc).

Look at 2009, Microsoft's worst year in 23 years :

http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/23/microsoft-sees-first-annual-sales-decline-in-its-history-for-fis/

14.57 billion in the black, even with Windows Vista's terrible reputation and a severe economic downturn.

Apple's best quarterly profits have been around 1.6b, so an absolutely stellar year for them might get just over 6b total profit. With competitors swarming both companies in many areas, I think that Apple is about at the peak. What are they gonna do, try to make dishwashers? Microsoft isn't really getting any bigger either, although they're getting more versatile.

Microsoft has definitely much more potential to grow than Apple in some areas. Apple is already into the tablet segment (which is going to be the fastest growing segment of the personal computer industry) while Microsoft has yet to announce its true contender (which they will probably reveal at CES). The iOS/iPhone is already at a mature state while WP7 phones are just getting launched across the globe.

Further, it's well known that investors just don't like MSFT (stock). MSFT is one of the most undervalued stock on the Street, that's well known. It's actually recovering from its $23 low... it's already at $28 and trending upward.

MSFT is in the process of restructuring itself at the moment. Windows is a much bigger cash cow than ANYTHING Apple has. Over 240 million units sold in less than 18 months. They are far from losing that monopoly soon. Plus, their freeware like Security Essentials are critically acclaimed and Microsoft is losing that bad, nasty reputation it has (as a software developer).

MSFT is still lacking in terms of management. Ballmer is just underwhelming... but the company, with the healthy margins and huge cash flows from operations, is under NO pressure to fire him. If the stock plateaus at $25-29, I think that it could lead to his demise as CEO.

By the way, to the poster who said the X360 was a failure "in last place"... the X360 has been outselling the Wii for the past month and a half. Plus, the Wii is not really a competitor to the real "new gen" consoles. If so, then Sony is getting raped far more than Microsoft. From a 100m+ units sold (PS2) to less than half of that. At least Microsoft is on an upward trend, has greatly improved from its debut.

I wouldn't look at Microsoft as a company in trouble. Yes it has some issues it has more than enough resources to deal with them.

On the other hand, Google...

the problem, as previously stated, is that microsoft is no longer a growth company, it is a safe place to store money with minimal, if any, long term losses, but also with minimal long term gains.

i always wonder when companies get this big why they dont just spin off their various products into smaller companies where there is central ownership of a majority of shares. this would make some things more difficult such as forcing everyone who uses your OS to use your browser but the overall innovation and wealth creation would be higher.

Windows Phone 7 will, if it stays on its current vector, die within a year or two due to lack of third party developer support.

Microsoft Business Productivity Online Standard Suite (BPOS) is still broken, which is almost beyond belief.

Those are major, major stumbles for MS. I wouldn't consider it a good year for them.

ironic that this was the thing that protected microsoft windows from competition in the past.

I guess the other major product in 2010 for Microsoft was Windows Azure. I don't know much about it, but I suppose it's the natural direction for ASP.NET websites to go. I don't think it'll do spectacularly, though, just because you do need to write your website in ASP.NET to use Azure.

I too, would like to see GA unbanned. If you need to balance out the force or something, then I propose considering banning his d-bag brother in trade.
