I'm all for saving money, but going to Walmart just makes me angry most of the time. Not to mention that with all the money I save on Target's clearance deals, it probably is just as cheap as shopping at Walmart. And Target sells nicer clothes.

There are things that Target doesn't sell though, particularly in the automotive, sporting goods and pet areas. Last time I went to Walmart was to buy fish. It took 15 minutes and 3 pages over the intercom to get someone to help me. I debated on just getting the fish out myself, but that's not really allowed. The tanks were dirty and had dead fish in them. The guy mangled the fish as he was taking them out of the tank, and half died within a couple of weeks. Then I went to PetSmart - wow, talk about a huge difference! The fish were in nice, clean tanks. The fish were alive and healthy and not overcrowded. I'll never buy a fish from Walmart again, prices be damned!

I don't hate Walmart, I just hate shopping there.

As has been said, your Walmart is not representive of all Walmarts. I gave two very contrasting examples and even pointed out that I do not shop at my closest Walmart.

There are ~3300 stores in the US. Now it's been a while since I took stats, but I don't believe 2 qualifies as a representative sample.

It depends which side of the fence you are on

I've lived in 7 states and more than 15 towns over the last 20 years. I've seen nice Walmarts, and not so nice Walmarts. To base your opinion of all Walmarts on one store is absurd.

Target is owned by a French company and they also will NOT let U.S. Marines collect donations for "Toys for Tots". I am guessing because of resentment for U.S. Military actions around the globe.
So I say F^%$# Target and the french F^%#$s that own it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Target doesn't allow any charity to set up shop outside their store, and I'm glad. I hate being guilted into giving away money anytime I walk into or out of a store. I hate going to Lowe's on a Saturday afternoon, because almost invariably someone who makes more money than I do is there asking me to buy some crap so their kid can go on some unnecessary trip. Pay for your own damn kid's trip! If your kid needs to spend a week in Florida for "spring training" for high school baseball or if she wants to go to a cheerleading or band competition in Hawaii, don't ask me to pay for it! I buy from the Girl Scouts though, their cookies are so good!

Target doesn't want to deal with that, so they bar EVERYONE from doing fundraisers at their store. They give a hell of a lot of money to charities though.

I never understood why people are afraid of saying NO and walking away. yes they have people ringing bells or tables for scouts etc. but all you have to do is say nope and walk off.

But that requires human contact :(

I need to get in, get out, and get back home to hug my graphics card...

Walmart quality is most often representative by the quality of the town/city it is located in.
For instance, Westminster, Maryland has both stores, Walmart & Target.. both are $hitty; both have rude employees; both stores are dirty and both stores never have anything you need or intended to go get.

I wonder what the Walmart in Columbia, Maryland is like? I'm sure if its like the rest of that city, its fairly nice. That is one snooty little city. ;)

*Edit*

Does Columbia even have a Walmart?

This is why Wal-Mart is always busy.

But I totally agree with most every point you made.

I hate the people at Wal-Mart, so many white trash hicks there all the time with the kids running all over the place, drives me f'ing nuts.

I hate the people at Wal-Mart, so many black/asian/jewish/hispanic trash hicks there all the time with the kids running all over the place, drives me f'ing nuts.

Still acceptable? I thought not.

Jewish hicks? Yeah right.

Target is not much more expensive than walmart, but Walmart also treats its employees like crap, they do not have health benefits, hell walmart has used land seizure acts to seize land from good honest people just to build walmarts but cause quote un quote it was for the greater good, the only advantage walmart has over target is that they are everywhere and open 24 hours a day, you can forget statistics because even if walmart has a list of over 30 items or products that they sell more than any other company or store on the planet people are going to go where they feel comfortable, where they want to spend there money, somebody is not going to go to a walmart if they do not want to spend their money there.

You aren't paying less for the "exact same thing" at Wal-Mart. You are paying less for an inferior product. Many manufacturers produce product lines exclusively for Wal-Mart that use cheaper materials and cheaper labor in order to meet Wal-Marts price demands.

Now, that is not all products. Products cited earlier in this thread, say, a bar of soap or a box of cereal, may be, on average, %10 more expensive than Wal-Mart. I'd say that %10 is worth not putting up with the frustration going to Wal-Mart. Target, in my town, is much better. I don't know "exactly what I want" every time I go shopping, so its nice that Target isn't populated by a bunch of morons, both customers and employees.

Who cares about all that? I sure don't. I shop at Target, but I could give a crap less what they treat their employees like.

However, you can tell they treat their employees better, because Target employees will treat the customer better than Wal-Mart employees.

A complete fabrication or you have no idea what you're talking about. Walmart offers health, dental, life and 401K benefits to the vast majority of it's employees. BOTH part time and full time. It is not Wlamrt's fault that only 45% or so of their employees sign up for the plan. Yet through Walmart, or another source, 75% of Walmart employees have some kind of health coverage. !00% are eligible after the probationary period.

http://www.walmartfacts.com/FactSheets/8252006_Associate_Benefits.pdf

And this is better than nearly any retail store you shop at in the mall, and most restaurants that offer NO plan for part timers.

Maybe you should know what you're talking about before bashing someone?

Target sells a style of levis that is found no where else as well except one other place" WALMART. "Levi Signature." It's a cheaper version that both stores sell. Neither store offers any red or silver tab jeans.

OOPS!

http://www.target.com/gp/browse.html/60...ndex=tgt-mf-mv&rank=titlerank&x=7&y=11

http://www.walmart.com/search/browse-ng..._0&ref=181605.184569+500500.4293864978

In fact, Walmart.com has a better selection of these than Target.com

Who cares? Walmart has decided that they have a standard to upkeep. RECORD companies censored the CDs to sell them in Walmart. Do I agree with the standard? Nope. But that's Walmart's decision.

And who buys CDs anymore anyhow?

Meanwhile, while you reach for examples of "inferior products" you pull out this???

Stop. Just stop.

I remember when Walmart announced they were going to start carrying Levi jeans. The newspapers touted it as a step forward. What little did they know that the Levis that are being carried are the $19.99 type and don't come close to having any style.
