The stores are horrible!

The parking lots are more dangerous than standing in the middle of Turn 1 at Talledega. There are 43 checkout lanes but only 3-4 are staffed at any one time. Plus, the clientele resembles the cast from the Home episode of The X-Files.

How is Wal-Mart's parkinglot any different from a large parkinglot at any other big store? lol

I think you're looking into it too much. You will find poor people in any store, unless you really are shopping at some sort've uber expensive yuppy place.

why?

1) Just about everyone I have been inside has been dirty or otherwise unorganized and messy.
2) Employees, for the most part, seem to be the most incompetent in the indusry.
3) Lack of quality selection. They have tons of crap, but not a lot of selection.
4) Low quality goods. Even Wal-Mart themselves have stated this and want to change.
5) Personal preference not to shop in a mega-store type thing. I go to a grocery store for groceries, a tire store for tires, clothing stores for clothing and so forth.
6) Customer service is the lack
7) Awful produce and their meats are probably the worst selection in the industry.

1) Never had that problem
2) Who cares?
3) Depends on what you're looking for
4) Depends on what you're looking for; they carry many name brands at cheaper prices than.. everybody else.
5) Same here, but like I said.. If they have something I need and the price is cheaper, they have my business.
6) Who needs customer service while shopping?
7) We don't have a super walmart, so no produce.. They have a very limited selection of food otherwise.. Just the basics. But it's name brand stuff(besides Sam's Choice stuff, of course), and most of it is cheaper than even our ultra ceap grocery store, WinCo... Compared to a place like Safeway or Albertsons, there's no comparison.

I buy cat litter and catfood there(Arm & Hammer and Purina One), some basic foodstuffs..

They have awesome prices on charcoal briquettes. I've bought a lot of name brand hardware and household items there. Work lights, extension cords, replacement fluorescent tubes, spraypaint, storage tubs, lawn and gardening supplies..

The only difference between these things at Wal-Mart and other places, as long as you stick with name brand, is price. Go look at some of those things at Home Depot and report back.

I don't care for a lot of Wal-Mart's practices, how they treat employees, etc... But I have to be conscious about my wallet, too.

Just because you may not be concerned with things like store cleanliness or customer service should be no reason at all to preclude others from being concerned about it. Frankly it is my own hard-earned money and if I want to pay ten cents more for a can of soup and be able to get in and out of the store in less time with less aggravation by going elsewhere, then that is my choice.

I am a big fan of Super Target because they seem to have much better quality of their store brand stuff, cleaner stores and better service orienteed departments such as a deli and meat counter.

What is even more important than even my opinion, if any of you been paying attention to this kind of stuff in the business pages (or whatever) the Wal-Mart executives have been making statements that they want to make a store a bit more "higher class." So therefore not only it is my own opinion that Wal-Mart is ghetto, for lack of a better term, the Wal-Mart VPs are saying it themselves.

I shop Wal Mart because of the low prices on BRAND NAME goods. I agree on comments about employees, customers, cleanliness, etc.

Here is a list of my last trip to Wal Mart and I check many stores and none of them have lower prices:

Campbell soups $1.50 for 20 oz cans
Charming toilet paper $.99 for a pack of 4
Gatorade $1.69 for 64 oz bottle
Tomato $.99 per pound <big ones not roma>
Tony pizza $2 for 20 oz pie

I rather shop at Target because it is cleaner and nicer but it is 1/2 hour away and it doesn't open 24 hours.

If people would take into consideration the foot traffic and make a ratio using cleanliness compared to say Target, Target would be just as dirty as Walmart with the same amount of foot traffic. The store I work at is actually very clean compared to most walmarts.

Yes, the meat department sucks and there is no one to blame but Arkansas. It was their choice to change the departments to the way they are but it mainly stopped meat cutters unions from moving in.

There is plenty of selection. If you want more specialized selections, go to a store specializing in that item.

Produce has problems getting items through the distribution channel fast enough because of the size of the company so yes it is an issue.

Oh, I completely agree. I was just trying to give my perspective, which is all any of us are doing. :)

We have a brand new, very nice Wal-Mart just right down the street from us.. so I guess I'm a little biased. They layed this one out very nice.. It's open and spread out, as opposed to all cramped together..

I have always tried to get the best bang for my buck, though. There's no way I'm going to pay 15$ for an extension cord at Home Depot when the same thing is 4 at Wal-Mart. :)

Oil! I forgot oil.. and other car stuff. They have great prices.... can't deny it.

Yes, I get most of my groceries there. Freakin cheap and you don't have to have a BS shoppers card (ie, a tool to help make advertising more deceptive/effective).

Kroger (large eastern US grocery chain) has a better selection for food items, but they're more expensive. And if you want to shop cheap you have to buy what they tell you to when they tell you too. That's evil, not walmarts honest always low pricing scheme.

At kroger, chicken is $3.99 when on sale but usually $5. Always $3.99 at walmart, no stupid shoppers card. It's like this with everthing.

Because the rednecks, the white trash, the migrant workers, and the 105 year-old ladies coming out of church in their 25' long OldsmoBuicks make it a place I'd rather not be.

I'll stick to Kroger and Target, thanks.

boy you all have some crappy walmarts around you.

The 2 i go to are clean and well stocked (DeKalb IL and Rockford IL both super centers).

I'm shopping so i do not expect customer service unless there is a problem and Walmart management has always been helpful.

the prices are cheaper then i have seen. BUT you do have to look at what you are buying. i do agree the selection is bad but they have about 95% of what we usually need

I do not care what they pay there workers. If they want higher pay then they can switch jobs if they have the skills. if they do not have the skill or knowledge then they can get a education.

Not to mention the Target in town is crap and there is only 2 other grocer stores in town. 1 i refuse to shop at and the other is expensive. though i think we did get a new one in town but havent checked it out yet.

In my town the Wal-Mart is a bit run-down. They've been trying to build a new Super Center, but have been having zoning trouble.

I go to Meijers a lot more than Wal-Mart simply because it has more stuff, is nicer, and easier to access.

For those outside the Midwest who do not know of Meijers: http://www.meijer.com/

I refuse to shop there:

1. They treat their employees like sh(t.
2. They censor stuff like music and magazines (cant buy FHM there) but its ok to buy a gun.
3. Most of their products are cheap for a reason
4. I dont find the option of shopping while watching a fat woman in stained sweat pants and 17 little bastard kids all that appealing to be honest.

Id rather pay more and shop at Target or Costco.

Source please... First I assume you meant Medicaid not Medicare (unless you're talking about the 90 year old greeters at the door - yeah they probably are on Medicare). Are you claiming that Walmart somehow is using Medicaid as it's insurance for it's employees? I'd really like to know how a private company is using government backed program like that.

I could care less about 1 and 2, have no idea regarding 3. Item 4 is what keeps me out of Wal-Mart.

It's not the parking lot so much as the idiots in the parking lot. I've always found it to be a much more frustrating experience navigating a Walmart parking lot than any other store.

And regarding poor people - the average income of Target shoppers is actually about $10,000 higher than Walmart shoppers. Not that I have a problem with poor people, just stating a fact.

And no offense to mentally disabled people, but it seems that more of them work at Walmart than any other place.

It's a personal choice, but I don't mind spending a few extra bucks per item if it means supporting a business that I respect. Some people will sell their souls for a dollar, but I'm not going to. Just isn't for me.

Wal-mart, overall, may make a lot of good "business" decisions... but I think people have been conditioned to respect the phrase "it's only business." IT'S NOT. It's LIFE we're living here folks.
