Vick was a very mediocre QB. He had a cannon arm and awesome legs, but his QB rating prior to Philly had only broken 80 once and was never 60%+ in completion %. He was a pro bowler because of the fan vote.

Well if Vick is medicore, there is a whole lot of mediocre qbs in the NFL. I mean a lot. Vick is not a prototypical NFL qb, but his talents are far from medicore. He has accomplished a lot more than most qbs have done in their whole career. And Vick went to a bad team. He is not Big Ben who got drafted to a championship caliber team. He didn't get lucky like Tom Brady and have hof coaches to play for. The guy is not mediocre.......its a stupid comment.

You know what? Who the fuck cares. Halladay is going to win #20 tonight. Werth just hit a bomb.

The Phillies are the only franchise in Philly earnestly committed to putting a winner on the field. I think that one swing of the bat reminded me why I really shouldn't care that much about the Eagles until they figure that out.

I came back to this thread because baseball is boring.

As for your proposition of saving Kolb for next year... let's look at the two ways this season can play out and see why it doesn't make sense to hold off with Kolb till next year:

Situation 1) Vick is a success. Leads the team to the playoffs, or close to the playoffs. In this situation, Kolb is not starting next year. They will more likely extend Vick and Kolb's future in Philly is over.

Situation 2) Vick is the inconsistent, mediocre player he has been throughout his career, and the team finishes with a losing record. Kolb is the starter next year, and we've essentially wasted an entire season so we can watch a "superstar" run around.

Re: Situation 1) Even if Vick is a success, I doubt the Eagles make the playoffs. Even if they do, they won't re-sign Vick. They're not fools. Vick is not their future, and they know it. Problem is, Kolb may not turn out to be their future either. Everyone keeps acting like Kolb has proven himself as and NFL QB. He hasn't . . . yet.

Re: Situation 2) If Vick reverts to form, then Kolb get to step back in but without the pressure of a pseudo-successful Vick waiting in the wings while the talk show yahoos

**** ***** Werth with a 3 run dinger. Go Phils! **********

while the talk show yahoos scream for Vick.

Well if Vick is medicore, there is a whole lot of mediocre qbs in the NFL. I mean a lot.

No, there aren't a lot of mediocre QBs in the NFL -- there are a lot of AWFUL QBs in the NFL, 3 or 4 great ones, and a few mediocre ones.

Vick is not a prototypical NFL qb, but his talents are far from medicore.

His physical gifts are extraordinary, and no one has disputed that.

He has accomplished a lot more than most qbs have done in their whole career.

Really? Like who? How many Superbowls has Vick been to? How many passing titles has he won? How many MVPs? How many QB passing records does he hold?

Have you ever heard of Jim Hart? He made the Pro Bowl 4 times as a QB for the St. Louis Cardinals. I guess that makes him better than Vick, right?

And Vick went to a bad team. He is not Big Ben who got drafted to a championship caliber team.

No kidding -- he was the #1 overall pick in the 2001 draft and most #1 overall picks go to crappy teams. They traded with the Chargers to get that pick and the Chargers used that pick to get LT and their second round pick on Drew Brees. Who won that trade?

He didn't get lucky like Tom Brady and have hof coaches to play for. The guy is not mediocre.......its a stupid comment.

Uh, excuse me, please do a little reading on Bill Belichick's coaching career BEFORE Tom Brady and then come back and talk to us. Brady is as responsible for Belichick's success as Belichick is for Brady's.

And no, it is not a stupid comment. A stupid comment would be "Vick only has mediocre talent." No one said that. Vick's stats prior to Philly are quite frankly horrible given that he was the #1 overall pick in the 2001 draft.

Look at Plaxico Burress, that douche shot himself in the leg because he wanted to be ghetto and take his gun to the club without a holster. How in the hell do you have all this money, shoot yourself in the leg because you didnt have a holster and then go to jail.

Vick is a good QB, he has a friggin arm on him. If he can get his accuracy down he would be a very good QB. Putting him in the game changes the way the defense has to think, call him a POS if you want but the guy did his time, move on already

Thanks to San Diego Chargers, the New Orleans Saints won? Who knew that Drew Brees would turn out to be one of the elite QBs?

So, Vick had a good game against the Lions. The Lions have a very weak secondary, maybe the weakest. Their D line is looking real good so Vick was running for his life, but as soon as he set his feet someone was open. That game was built for Vick to look very good. This choice might have farce written all over it.

It is the best move for the team. Say what you want about Vick, but the guy is still an awesome athlete.
Actually, he isn't. He knows how to run away from people, but that is about it. I'd be waiting in the parking lot with some Steelers pit-bulls waiting to take a bite out of his butt.

Well we didn't cover the stupidity of the Chargers yet, only the fact that they came out on top of the Falcons by virtue of giving up Vick. I forgot who else they drafted with the other Vick draft pick, but IIRC, it was someone pretty good.

Actually, he is. He still has one of the strongest arms in the league and is probably as fast as many NFL receivers.

And as mentioned earlier, I do get amused at all the outrage at Vick while people like Leonard Little seem to get a pass.

This. I don't understand why we have prisons if we are never going to forgive. He did his time, more time than normal to make an example out of him, time to move on. I just hope his speed can hold. 28-30 men get slow fast. probably not a good investment for long term due to his style.

It seems like who's starting at QB is a game by game decision now for many teams. Vick may start this week, but the leash is short.

I fear Vick's legal troubles will dog him for the rest of his life.

He did some truly ugly things. He did his time and I agree with letting him earn his living once again in the NFL, but . . . there's no true do over for torture killing subservient animals with gusto and glee . . . karma's a bitch like that, you know?

There's people that have done worse yet he's the one that gets it the worst.
