this happens when you don't start looking until 2 days after it is released

Yeah, but some of us have jobs, houses, and lives.

so join the rest of the world and buy the regular version. it isn't called the "special edition" for nothing:beer:

Some of you guys aren't reading the original post....NEITHER version of the game is available!

sorry but i thought in your original post the guy from best buy said, ""Sure, we've got the CD version, but not the DVD version" ...oh wait, HE DID. changing your story now?

No, I went to BB to get the CDROM version, since they said they had it but not the DVD version. And when I got there I was told it was long sold out....why would I go there if I already knew it was sold out?

Wow, I had no idea that even the cd version was getting hard to come by. I'm wondering if it's possible to "make" a dvd version of it with a dvd burner. Looking at the DVD, I see folders labeled cd1, cd2, cd3, cd4, cd5, and cd6. There may be a special installer from a dvd version that someone could send you if you wanted to "make" the game. You'd then need a no-disc crack as the game checks the drive when you run it.

Note: this isn't illegal if you OWN a copy of the cd version, it would just be a more convenient way to load the game, which was the draw for me to order the dvd version.

Expect Epic to release a No-CD/DVD fix with their coming patches. They did the same with UT and UT2k3; I woulda thought that the game would have been no-cd/dvd out of the box because some the no-cd cracks actually send cd-keys out to the crack authors, so unless the patch is done by epic, run it at your own risk.

It sucks that the DVD is only available in the SE version in North America. In Europe the DVD version is the standard version!!! :|

Yes, you can make a dvd. There's a thread in the Atari Forums about it.

I was on a UT forum, and it was said that the headset that came with the SE version was faulty, now Epic is recalling the SE versions and won't be releasing any more. Not sure if it's been mentioned, I haven't gone through the thread with a fine toothed comb...

Epic is frickin stupid for only making however many of the DVD version. It shouldnt be a collectors version at all, but instead a standard normal thing to buy the dvd set. They could have been a frontrunner in DVD game releases, but NOOO.

It's amazing when a limited run special edition is actually a hot commodity! WOW! Stop complaining.

Im not complaining. I hate their product regardless. But I'd still rather see a 25/75 rollout of DVD and CD for game release.

I believe it was Atari's decision. Another controversy has arisen which is definitely Atari's doing, that has to do with the UT2k3 rebate. The rebate was stated to be available in North America and all North American versions of UT2k4 advertise the rebate on the front of the Retail version. However, once you look at the Rebate card, it states that only US buyers are eligible. Mark Rein from Epic was surprised when he heard of this and has stated that he was going to check into this situation to see why.

The rest of the world has a standard DVD version. The CD version seems to be rare here, most places rank the DVD higher in sales than CD and stock more DVD versions than CD versions. This is normal DVD versions, not the SE's.
It's just the US that sucks :p

Ya, I really don't understand why the DVD version is so limited here(North America), doesn't make a lot of sense. Though Europe and much of Asia often are a little further ahead when it comes to computer technology.

Welp. they're charging the same price for the SE version... which includes a $20 (retail) headset and metal 'case', so no doubt they dont make as much money on the SE version. Not much to think about, this is capitalism.

When I was at the local walmart today they'd sold one copy since yesterday and had about 20 copies stacked on top of the ones on the shelf, too bad my computer isn't even close to being able to play it =/
