yea, for once, the special edition wasn't cranked out in huge numbers :) There were a grand total of 60,000 SE DVD editions produced, 40,000 of which went to the united states, most of which were used up for pre-orders I'm guessing

BB fooled a lot of people when they said they would get them in on the 18th but were actually on shelves the 17th. Even many Internet pre-orders were cancelled due to "overwhelming response".

I got it through Gamestop pre-order (2nd hand). (Wish I got 2 so that I could profit off it on eBay since I just spent $500 to upgrade my PC just to play the game...)

I preordered my DVD, but it was loose in the case and scratched badly. EBGames is having to send me a new one...now I have to wait until Tuesday. :(

I pre-ordered mine from a local Babbages about 2 weeks ago. I stopped in last night to pick it up. The headset is pretty cheap yet adequate and there isn't much on the extra DVD unless you're a modder (very extensive tutorials on mapping, scripting, etc).

For $40 still an awesome deal and I'm happy.:)

what's even worse is to have the game installed and ready at home, but you gotta spend the day @ work!

What's even worse is having it installed at home on a PC without an internet connection and being at work.:frown:

What is wrong with loading 6 cd's? I mean I am seeing people freaking out and going all over town just to get the dvd version when they could have installed the regular version 10 times in the time they wasted searching for the fvckin thing. So what you have to actually lift your fingers off of your keyboard and actually change the cd. Is it that big of deal? Just by the game and buy a headset and stfu you picky ass nerds!

Oh, you just found out there was a UT2k4 today? Ok, you're excused then. I was under the impression that you, like the rest of us, may have heard about it either here on AnandTech or somewhere else on the internet.

I went to pre-order the DVD version from BB but the site said 'Sold Out'. Oh well. Now I'm debating whether to get the CD version or to wait for a DVD version to come back out.

The good slant on this is that this means I don't have to try and split time between BF:Vietnam and UT2K4 for a little while.

Went to two bestbuys at 10 when they opened. The first one put the se's on the shelf the day before and they were all sold. The second bestbuy had about 10 copies, I picked up one and another one for my friend. Two hours later, another friend calls me and tells me they are alllllllll gone.
Then I find this.

Damnit, I should have picked up couple more copies.

Man, I should have got a couple extra copies too! I can't believe people are going to pay that much for the SE!

holy fvck, the regular version is 6 cds? I had no idea...but to be honest, I think I would have gtten highly annoyed having to change all those cds. I just popped in the dvd, went to grab something to eat, and by the time I came back it was about 98% finished :p

oh yeah, I did have to clear up 5.5 gigs of space on my hd first. Are all new games this big?

I was scoping out ebay copies 2 days before they came out. There were a couple floating around then going for $100... then all hell broke loose after release... seems they really short changed a lot of people with the limited production. I was going to take advantage of the nice profit but BB failed me for my 2nd copy.

I bet people will still pay full price for it used.

I got stung by BestBuy's pre-order scam too. I already hated BestBuy so when they cancelled my SE order it was par for the course. Ended up with a 6-CD edition from the local store. 6 CD's and 5.5gigs took a long time to load, let me tell you. LOL

It's a great game and the graphics are a notch above UT2003 if you can believe that.

To anybody in Raleigh NC Circuit City has the SE version there. I did a price match to bestBuy, bring the sunday ad so they will not call and check, and got one. There is at LEAST one more. I put it at the FAR right of the games and at the very bottom, it is covered up by 1 game on top. Should be easy to find for a true HotDeal person.
They had not put them out yet so I found a tote full of software to put up. So if someone beats you to the one I hide, there might be another 1 or 2 in the tote. HURRAY!!!!

Posted this a couple time else where so maybe someone here can use the help.

My roomate has been all over the hot deals forum on here and fatwallet since like two weeks ago trying to find the SE at the absolute cheapest place possible. He narrowed it down to eb games, and went to place a preorder there, but they wouldnt take any money. They assured him he would still get it.

I wasnt sweating it, and on a whim the day before it came on, I placed a preorder in store at the same eb games before I hopped on the train. Put 10 bucks down on it.

On the next day, when it officially was coming out, I was on the train back, it was about 7pm. I called my roomie and he said they didnt have any of them. I figured Id go in and check anyway, I ask him if they have it, of course he says no. I ask what about with a preorder? He asks to see the slip, and pulls the SE version out. He said it was the only copy they had there, and apparently I was the first person with a legitimate preorder (that put money down) to come and claim it.

I walked back to out place with a big smile on my face. I asked him what happened, let him tell his story and vent about how pissed he was that he couldnt find it anywhere, and then told him "You probably dont want to see whats in my bag then."

The look on his face was priceless.

Its now friday, and he still refuses to buy the cd version. Im almost done with the single player and Ive been playing it online for days.

Damn good game, but the headset really, really blows. If youre holding out just for it, youre gonna be dissapointed.

I pre-ordered a DVD edition which hasn't arrived yet, was wandering round shops and saw over 10 DVD copies of it, and no CD copies anywhere. This was in the UK though, but it was DVD or nothing (not the SE DVD though).
