Cool man. See how you weigh in 7 days and 14 days :) You should be able to drop a good 2lbs within 2 weeks if you are eating on point and training :)

Thanks for the input! Will do! I hope to be 185 by the end of this month.

Question to you guys:

I am doing a lifting routine before my cardio that changes every week. Because every week I am doing completely new exercises, I am always getting sore. I am supposed to do this work out 3x a week. Well because of this lifting on Monday, by Weds I am still sore, and I am hesitant to lift on sore muscles. Should I just push through it or should I keep resting and just do cardio/abs that day?

There are two types of soreness (probably way more but I am talking basics): 1) are you hurt? 2) is it just lactic acid/etc?

1) you want to avoid stressing that injury usually.

2) you can train through.

It's not lactic acid. Lactic acid is what builds up in your muscle after time and prevents you from continuing to do more reps. It's the fact my muscles are partly "torn" and are in the process of rebuilding. I am leaning toward skipping the lifting because it's the EXACT same lifts as Monday. It would be totally different if I did legs Monday and today I was doing chest and back. I did a full body compound work out Monday, and today and Friday I am supposed to repeat the same thing.

Dude, get back in. You are doing new lifts lifts each week. If I don't train for 7 days and i get back I'm going to be horrifically sore for about 3-4 days. Why? I haven't trained in 7 days.

Are you eating enough protein?

Most people make too big a deal about soreness. The question you have to ask yourself is it VERY sharp pain? If not then most often you are fine and do you want results? If so get back in the gym to train.

Any time I get soreness, once I actually start lifting it does away. People who make a big deal about it are just looking for excuses I tend to find.

Just don't want to over work something and cause actual injury.

protein intake is around 160-180g a day. My body in general tends to recover more slowly from injury, soreness, etc.

Plan on working out today though.

You are not over working something if you are training less than 20hrs a week. Unless you hit one body part a week for 15hrs IMO.

I've been ill since Tuesday. I felt terrible most of Tuesday, all of Wednesday and so so today. I feel sooooo weak and if a mugger was to come in I'd be done. I have no energy and I just feel so weak. Must be some sort of flu/ cold thing? I was not ill once last year but I usually get ill about once or twice a year when the weather goes from hot to cold. Tuesday was the first time in nearly 2 weeks it rained and had some thunder storms. Can't wait to not be ill so I can hit the gym. I'm going to take it easy as I have a comp on the 3rd of August. I need to drop weight so need to keep my diet in check, need to drop 0.5kg and not be so sore on the comp that I can't lift properly.

Haven't checked in in a while.... Weigh 182 now. Eating pretty well, doing morning work outs and hockey 2-3 times a week. Once I hit my goal of 175, I will go back to stength and muscle gain. Will likely be 2 heavy lifts per week.

The army has done research with replacing all the ridiculous amounts of running with doing compound barbell lifts. The soldiers who did the barbell lifts and no cardio were able to run longer and faster, carry more, and recover faster than those that did the traditional running for miles and miles all day.

The article was on Mark Rippetoes website at some point but I can't find it anymore.

While this might be a article, I first hand can tell you this is NOT ALWAYS true.

During a corps (thousands of soldiers) run, nearly an ENTIRE brigade fell out of a 4 mile verification run. VERY SAD sight.
