It's not a total dud now. From Wiki's list of DX10 games, it shows which games specifically support DX10.1:

Assassins Creed (buggy patch, removed)
Battlefield 3
Battleforge
BioShock Infinite
Dirt: Showdown
Far Cry 2 - highest API version (no DX11) - although there's really no advantage over the Geforces with well-executed shader antialiasing
Avatar (crappy game) - highest API version (no DX11)
Just Cause 2 - highest API version (no DX11)
Max Payne 3
Medal of Honor: Warfighter
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Need for Speed: The Run
Renegade Ops - highest API version (no DX11)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - highest API version (no DX11)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
Star Trek Online
Stormrise
The Showdown Effect
H.A.W.X. - highest API version (no DX11)
Shogun 2

Upcoming games that will also support DX10.1:

Assetto Corsa
Command & Conquer

So, those with HD 4890 or HD 4870X2, for example, would still be able to enjoy these games with DX10.1, whereas those with say, GTX 285 or 295 would be stuck to DX10.

I just noticed that Star Trek: Online supports DX11.1, which is interesting.

Fair, but I guess my point was that not many 10.1 games were released when AMD was the only one that had hardware supporting it. STALKER was incredibly demanding at the time also, and the extra AA options 10.1 offered were pretty much unusable on a 4890 at 1080p with everything maxed. I couldn't play that game properly until I got a 5870.

And more recent games, like MP3 and Battlefield 3, you'd want a DX11 GPU for these anyway.

So just saying, I wouldn't worry much about DX11.1 if you've got an Nvidia card right now.

They had DX10.1 too, which only AMD supported at one point, and it was a total dud.

Yes they have, But NOW is a much more Different  LOOK on The Next-Gen Consoles and their specifications eg. PS4 DX11.x and x720 DX11.x (x mean they will develop new Game Features in the Future and Full Hardware DX11 is Essential)
Look back in the DX9 = 9, 9a, 9b, 9c and now 9.2 , 9.3
Look on Mass Effect 1 and 2 and 3 its Amazing what they did with DX9 !!!
And that will be going with DX11.x !!! So if u have AMD\Radeon 7xxx (7970 or at least 7950) You will be Ready for Next-Gen PC GAMES !!!
:D
of course nV will Release the GTX 7xx DX11.1 very soon (July i think)

Hey Bofox, someone posted this on another forum I visit as a response to the throttling issue:

We’ve found an error in our power reporting that under certain circumstances makes it look like there is extra power headroom available. The power readout could, for example, show 90% when in fact you are using 100% of the available power. It’s likely that your card is boosting clocks up until it hits the power limit but the reporting error is causing the power readout to show a number below 100%. Under these circumstances a dramatic increase in fan speed would cause some extra power draw and the GPU voltage and clocks could be dropping in order to stay within the maximum power limits of the card.

We’re working on a fix for the power reporting error and expect to have it available in a few weeks.

Makes sense. If the fan power draw wasn't factored into the Power Reporting, then users wouldn't accurately be able to tell why the card was throttling. Considering they are hard capped at 265W, say giving it an OC +100, then seeing the card reporting 90% power draw but throttling, the user might think it's a heat issue. Them cranking up the fan would cause the throttling to worsen since they are now adding more watts and thus more throttling.

Would also explain cards losing performance after "warming up" since the fan would have to ramp up.

UPDATE: Added a separate score rating for Titan from data that compared the warmed-up card against running at initial temp boost in games.

That was like a 10% reduction in VP. Woof. Remind me if I ever get a Titan down the road to play games in 9 minute intervals! haha.

Would the Geforce GTX 680 4GB differ much from the 2GB version in the VP list?

I was just reading up on different high end cards, and what might be coming out in the next year. I would like to gauge when I should start saving to replace my HIS Radeon HD 6990 4GB. I don't ever run more than 1 screen anymore, and I run that screen only at 1920X1080. But I do however love running everything on very high/ultra.

Considering the Voodoo5-6000 woulda cost around $600 that means 1 of my GTX 460 1GB is worth 104 x $600 for a grand total of $62,400 + 13% tax up here in Canada.

I guess I got a great deal at $269.99 for 1 of my GTX 460 1GB.

$269 was a lot for that GTX 460 even at launch! Yeah, 100x of that Voodoo5 6000 would be $60,000!!!

Yeah, I should go ahead and add separate ratings for 4GB versions of GTX 680 and 670, since there are now a couple games that can practically use more than 2GB of VRAM (other than Skyrim with mods). I'm also a sucker for running games with SSAA as long as it's playable, and as long as the memory space allows for it. ;)

EDIT - Also will add HD 7790 and GTX 650 Ti Boost soon!

I hate to say this BoFox, but given AMDs own admission to the problem cited by pcper, I think you need to drop the 7990 cards at least 50% until it's fixed >.<

Alright, I'm finally around to asking - what does " >.< " mean, exactly?

Alright, I'm finally around to asking - what does " >.< " mean, exactly?

The Wikipedia entry on emoticons lists >.< as "skeptical, annoyed, undecided, uneasy, hesitant".

In this instance, I think that BallaTheFeared was possibly uneasy or hesitant due to the possible blow-back such a suggestion could generate from AMD's supporters. At least those are the definitions of >.< that most closely fit the situation.

I imagine the use would vary a bit. I personally use the ">.<" emoticon to express when I have made a mistake that was my own fault. Almost like the character Homer from the popular tv show "The Simpsons" saying his catch phrase "Doh!"

Example:

Due to my lack of research, I Bought an HD6990. Instead of (2) HD6970's that would have performed better and cost me less money >.<

Sorry for the delay with adding GTX 650 Ti Boost and HD 7790 - I was swamped during the spring break with family members visiting and cute Easter bunny stuff.. will try to get up to speed tonight!

Update - added GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB and HD 7790 1GB to the list, rated at 144 VP and 123 VP respectively. Some reviews differ from each other with results all over the place, which is a bit unusual for two video cards launched at around the same time. Will fine-tune further when additional reviews come in, like from Xbitlabs and more, hopefully (Hardware.fr covering 650 Ti Boost, AlienBabelTech covering additional cards for better comparison, etc.)... In some reviews, HD 7790 really shine - especially with newer games that are optimized to take advantage of GCN, but in some others, it really reflects the memory address and ROP constraints.

$175 shipped for 448 Fermi performance, pity they can't do better on perf/$ front with these new cards... This is even in the sweet spot section for the most part, lower $200 range.

Check me out...for 2 months in the winter of 2011 I was raiding in wow: cataclysm on an AMD64 3200+ newcastle, 1gb ddr2-800, x850xt platinum 256mb, all settings on low or medium, medium spell detail, at 1440x900 and was getting about 30+ FPS. Totally playable on what should be considered beyond obsolete :D

Yay!! Your X850XT still ruled! I had one very similar to this, an X800XT AIW, overclocked to about 540MHz, IIRC. It was faster than my 6800 Ultra AGP and PCIE versions in most games. Single-slot, very quiet and not as power-hungry. Awesome card with a great TV tuner included. Sadly, the X1900 AIW was slower than X1900XT/X cards, whereas X800XT AIW was just as fast as X800XT and (edit: when overclocked,) basically about the same as X850XT. The X800XT AIW was also sold at roughly the same price as X800XT (maybe just $50 more... gosh, it was a no-brainer getting that beautiful card over the X800XT).
