You sure called it on turns 1&2. Really nasty on cold tires in particular. Both RB and Merc looked to have about the same race pace per lap. RB pulled off two undercuts which undid Max's error on turn 1. Merc took a huge gamble. I thought they were going to go for the undercut, then Hamilton and Bottas sucked off the pace! Maclaren had a really good race; Ferrari disappointed 🙄

Styrian Qualifying Results:

P1. Verstappen
P2. Bottas ( +3 Place Grid Penalty )
P3. Hamilton
P4. Norris
P5. Perez.

Once again we will have Verstappen & Hamilton on the 1st row for tomorrow, I hope Mercedes gets their tire strategy right this time!

Man, the new energy management system on the upgrade Honda engine is terrific! The RB's still have excellent pace on the straights, but also through the corners.

Looks like we are in for a good race. I hope that Mercedes doesn’t get their strategy right ;):p.

Where has Mercedes pace gone? :confused_old: Was still a good race to watch w/ LeClerc making his way through the grid after having to pit after the first lap and finishing P7 & winning "Driver Of The Day" w/ 28% of the votes.

To hell in a hand basket! Verstappen was almost 30 seconds ahead o_O. At least they managed Bottas' race OK (thought they should have pitted him right after Perez, but apparently they didn't have a new set of mediums). Perez should have been pitted a few laps earlier, IMHO (and that 4.8 second stop was terrible, and so out of character for RB). Feel bad for Gasly, great weekend and qualifying pace, only to be taken out in lap 1 by Leclerc (and then got hit by three other cars!!). Mid-field was a bit more interesting and Riccardo had an okay race for a change.

Mercedes was showing promise during the practice sessions, but both drivers dropped the ball today :( That McLaren w/ Norris at the helm will be quite difficult to pass tomorrow. At this point Mercedes should just kiss that Constructors Championship goodbye and focus on next year.

Or, did the other drivers/teams just up their game. Merc had already decided to put off updates and focus on 2022, that is probably why they are in this situation to begin with. That decision may pay off in the long term, but it's killing them now.

It's getting tough for Lewis and Valteri. Lewis looked crushed while still sitting in his car just after qualifying. These guys are going to lose confidence if Merc can’t do anything with the car, then it’s going to get worse.

On board with one of Lewis' flying laps, he seemed just unable to push the car as hard in a couple of key corners, whereas Norris and Verstappen dove in hard.

I think that their current design is just stalled as far as upgrades are concerned. You are right though, everyone else really did up their game this year.

As a Mercedes fan not a good day for me :( , but it was a good race to watch. Perez better watch his back! ;)

It was a pretty good race, IMHO. A lot of drivers where elbows out, so lots of penalties. It can't be fun to be a Mercedes fan right now. As I'm a Red Bull fan, I'm having a good time. Max is just flying, he had time to pit and still finished, what, 14 seconds ahead of Bottas! It's just nuts. Perez certainly does need to watch his back and be drive smarter to be keep RB up in the constructors rankings. He still needs to perform better.

McLaren are really making good progress this year. Norris is showing some top level form - a very impressive year for this young racer.

The crowd (not sure how man were Max fans on the main grand stand) sure got loud during Lando's interview. Him and Max are making F1 popular again, and Lando's certainly a crowd favorite these days.

A ton of them were the Dutch fans. They are famous for all sitting together and lighting up those orange smoke thingys. They turn out in extra large numbers for Max, and since Lando kept claiming them as his fans, they went along and gave him big cheers as well. There are typically large contingents of them in Orange at the Tour de France as well. It was great seeing so many fans turning out for the race!

Verstappen had a great start, Hamilton not so much :( Watching Alonso on lap one was quite impressive I must say. Perez retiring the car was odd. :confused_old: Let's hope for a good race tomorrow!

Merc has managed some improvement in the straights, seem like they put less rake into the wing. That gets them in striking distance of Max. It's looking like it's going to be a tire management game so long as tomorrows track temps stay high. If Lewis gets away better tomorrow, he has a chance - following in turbulent air is terrible at Silverstone. Perez over cooked a corner and went into a wall. He was limping around the track and RB called him in. Probably better off starting out of the pit straight. He has the pace to move up fast and avoids the first corner rub and bump.

Silverstone did not disappoint today, I wish I was there! Good racing and IMO Hamilton and Verstappen's Lap 1 incident should have been just that, a racing incident as Hamilton proved more than once during the race that you can pass at Copse contrary to what Horner was saying. A 10 second penalty and Hamilton still gives his fans yet another home victory!

Ajay, I must have missed Perez kissing a wall.

Hamilton certainly earned that win, he barn stormed the track after his pit stop. His pace was incredible. In the other passes at Copse, people were well down on pace compared to Lewis, and hence they just moved out of the way. That wasn't the case with Max. It was a cluster on that first lap and cost Max the race; ultimately, it didn't affect Lewis at all. I thought Lewis came in too late and should have backed off - seems like the stewards agreed. C'est la vie. It was a pretty good race, would have been better if Max and Lewis were trading places over the course of the race. A bit disappointed in Perez, thought he would have had the pace to get up into the points. He got stuck behind those stupid mid-field trains that form up - RB dialed in more wing this weekend, so he should have been able to get by, blah.

Well at least from the stewards POV, the debate over Silverstone is finally over . Time to get ready for P3 and the AM quali from Hungary! :beercheers:

Yes, that was nuts. Even as an RB fan I was like 'shut up guys!'. After watching Jolyon Palmer's analysis I think it was a racing incident as both drivers were 'elbows out'.

Merc has had a really strong weekend. Max really struggled with his setup. It may rain, which will screw up everything.

Outstanding qualifying! Standings, since I've pipped @Zim Hosein again ;) :

*1 44 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:15.419 2 77 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 1:15.734 3 33 Max Verstappen Red Bull 1:15.840 4 11 Sergio Perez Red Bull 1:16.421 5 10 Pierre Gasly AlphaTauri 1:16.483

Norris and Leclerc followed close behind for 6 & 7.

Ugh, formatting Posts in Xenforo is a PITA.

Rain will make it interesting since the Hunggaroring isn't know for many passes during a race. Not to mention if it does rain, we all know how difficult it is for Hamilton to drive in the wet! :innocent: My prediction is that Hamilton will win tomorrow and give the fans something more to boo about which would be awesome! :grinning:

OMG! What a disastrous start . Massive carnage (cars, not drivers). I'm really starting to hate races in the rain.

Good race to watch once again! Mercedes goes into the break leading the Drivers and Constructor's Championship, not bad considering the lap 1 incident that Bottas caused (Given a 5 place grid penalty for the next race). IMO Stroll needs a penalty too, but we'll see,.

Yeah, I’ll refrain from expressing my thoughts on Bottas. Great win for Ocon - holding off Vettel who had slightly better car! I did lol when I saw Hamilton alone on the start line. It was like everyone got the memo except Merc. Alonso executed an excellent defense against Lewis protecting Ocon's position. Hamilton came back from a very dispiriting tactical error with a bit between his teeth, great drive.

I enjoyed the race after I got over Perez being crashed out and Max losing almost all of his right floor. Even really felt for Charles and Norris too. That's racing :p.

Actually, due to the appeal, the disqualification has been suspended. If they nanage to extract some more fuel from the fuel system/tank, they may yet be exonerated and keep the position. Here's hoping, as they already threw the win away with that slow stop...

Yes. Double sucko. Blew the chance of a 1st place an then, perhaps, burned more fuel than was measured by sensors. Still have a soft spot for Vettle, so this is a bummer. Hope they figure it out.
