OK ppl I am wondering what are the odds I will get a c1 at any given retailer unless I specifically buy from etailers stating c1's...they are still in the 175-180 range for guaranteed c1's....

I have been discussing this with oldfart and I think we are both of the suspicion with our uck we could get one of theose last b0 stepping chip and be robbed of our dream of 3ghz and beyond...

options:

1)wait another week and try to have newegg go out of stock of them and restock thus increasing the odds of all c1s...

2)Bite the bullet and get the 2.4b from newegg which is one of the best prices out there

3)Our just get the guaranteed c1 at atacom.com for the slight premium

Do you think buying oem chips or retail chips can help one way or another in getting a c1??? I notice for most 5 dollars more for retail version...

I debated too..I got a 2.4B about 1.5 months ago ,after they got more back in stock..ended up with a B0 and it was an OEM.....
Never can tell..Id say if you *must* have 3ghz..get the gaurenteed one from Atacom..or try your luck at the 'egg.
But if you end up with a B0, then sell it, figure youd be down $30-$40 and if you get a C1/1.8a, you coulda gotten a 2.53 or 2.66 even...after shipping and all....

*PS, good luck!!

I ordered a 2.4b from newegg last week and got a C1. I'd go with them. You'd have the piece of mind of getting what you want and at the lowest cost. Can't get too much better than that. :) Good luck

I have the same issue. I was looking at 2.1 or 2.2, but with newegg around 150 and the overclockin potential...what to do...

Ofcourse always....I also plan on getting more then 264mhz!!!:) I am going for 185fsb and running my pc3000 in synch and 2,2,2,6....

For me to want to jump to the 2.4 800fsb I need a new mobo and frankly I am waiting until springdales and even then I wont jump for a few months as I want the price to go down and see all the kinks in it. Unless someone starts coming up with a 4:3 ratio way up high we better start getting higher speed ram or we will hit the ceiling pretty fast as ocers...

Yo Duvie, isn't there a Fry's in Oregon? I say go to Fry's and buy one there. That way you can inspect it "Before" you pay for it.

If not, I would only order from an etailer that would not gouge you should you not want the item.

yes their is a fryes in wilsonville just south of me by 20minutes...however they do not let you inspect them before purchasing...Do you recommend a get chip then look at sl code if I can throgh plastci packaging and then if it is a b0 stepping chip tell them nevermind then come back later and try it again??? I have heard of many trying this and other things successfully...

I think atacom is reasonable considering 10 bucks more then newegg for a guarantee...

I went to my local Fry's and asked for three. The gentleman who helped verified that I wanted three. I told him I really only wanted one; however, it was a certain "One" that I was looking for. He told me that the cashierwould bring them out for me at the regester.

When I got to the regesiter she looked at my invoice and went back to the cage returning moments later with three identical processors. Since they were all C1's I did my "Eny Meny Miny Mo" thing and let picked one. She was't that happy b/c I only wanted one of three.

Ten minutes later I was on my way home with my 2.4GHz C1 CPU. To make a long story shorter I am now running at 175FSB at stock voltage without a single problem.

one of my friends ordered his from www.googlegear.com and got a C1. Pack date from googlegear was 2/4/03
I think that he ordered last week.....also, got one Retail 2.40B from Frys and got a C1 from there too....pack date from Frys was 2/8/03

it seems like all the latest chips are C1 stepping.....so good bet will be to buy the CPU from a retailer who runs out of stock pretty quick and doesnt has old stock but again, its YMMV and if you dont want to risk, then pay the extra $$$$

if i were you, i would go ahead and take the risk, but again, thats just me ;)

I think I am going to go the newegg route at the end of the week....rumor has it newegg just got in a large shipment (retail boxes) to fill the rush they expected on these chips....I think a majority of them will all be c1 chips and packing dates of 2003...

Newegg 164.00 free fed ex shipping for retail 2.4b....sounds good to me....

Atacom can kiss my arse....175.00 for a c1 isn't bad but 10.32 cents for ground shipping is a plain rip off...on the 165.00 (likley non c1 chips) one on pricewatch they say for phone orders 5.00 shipping....

Are the non 2.4's (400 mhz) C1 steppings or are they all still B0?
Apparently my P4PE board doesn't support 4:3 cpu/memory multipliers so the max I can hit is 170-175 fsb with my ram.
