Fry's gives a 1 year warranty on all OEM chips they sell
??? Last time I bought a loss leader bundle ($99 for an MSI 645E Max and an OEM Celeron 2.0) the sales droid tried to sell me extended warranty. When I refused, he said that the items would otherwise have NO WARRANTY. I then asked if it would still be covered under the normal return policy (what, one week?). He said it would, and I declined the extended warranty. This was in the sole Fry's in San Diego.

Well, I hate to tell you this, but my 2.4b showed up from Newegg on Friday. I spent all weekend getting pissed off more and more. It's a B0 stepping, with a pack date of 08/24/02 or some crap like that. The thing is a POS as it will only do 162fsb stable in prime. Funny thing about the chip is, at 1.6v (used for 162fsb) or 1.725 it doesn't matter, it won't boot any higher than 165fsb. I'm so pissed right now because everyone else got C1's and I happened to be the unlucky SOB again. I just don't understand it. I'll get you guys the S-Code when I get home tonight.

Guess they changed their policy, I bought one of the combo deals last week and it does have a 1 year warranty on OEM CPU. It is stated on the receipt that I have.

Anyway Duvie where are you????
More impotent where is the 2.4b C1. 😉

Radelon sorry to hear that. Sell it and try again if you are not happy. :disgust:
EDIT: Now sell it on fleabay not here. 😀

Yes the shipping @ atacomp is nuts. Worse, they won't honor the free shipping promo they have on price grabber. Really ticks me off. Of course, its better then screwing around with it, so I just might pay the man and move on.

Or not. Things I'd like some input on:

1) I think I've been told all 2.66's are C-1's. Is this correct?

2) Are B0's being phased out, or are slower clocked C-1's chips (1.8's - 2.4's) those that didn't make the 2.66 cut and so got derated?

3) Why the focus on the 2.4? I agree it's the sweet spot pice wise, but hell, after buying the twinaxe memory, paying out the nose for a p4g8x, why get cheap now? I guess I'm wondering:

a. How high can we clock a cpu before we run the FSB/memory bus out of bandwidth. Whataver point that is, is clearly that point when I'd want to stop looking for more CPU mhz and begin focusing only on FSB increases (that bring sych's increases in cpu mhz with memory).

b. Until that point, I'd think buying cpu to be a reasonable option.

4. I wondering, perhaps using false logic, perhaps not, iif a 2.66, that is, a chip that's always shipped as a C-1, has a better chance of buying the hidden jewel that goes to the big numbers?

So my thoughts end up asking:

If, the above answer work out as I think they will, my answer to eh C-1 delima is: Ifs I've heard, the 2.66's are all C-1's AND google sells them for about $230, before I give ATAcomp $200 for a 2.4 (I'm in Il. and would need it 2 day air), I'll give googlegear another $30 or so. Maybe.

Thoughts guys?

Thanks.

dan

I got in on the Fry's deal and ended up with an SL6RZ chip. Too bad it's going into my dad's machine, who has no clue of it's potential. Anyways, I built his system from parts I had lying around and to me, it doesn't seem fast at all. Here's the list of parts:

P4 2.4bGHz @ 533
512MB DDR 2100
Diamond Viper II AGP
Quantum 20GB (5400rpm)
Mobile Rack for 2nd Hard Drive (no drive yet)
Pioneer 105 DVD-R/RW
Generic DVD-Rom
WinXP Pro

It seems like the system runs pretty slow at booting up and opening applications. My IDE controller shows UDMA or DMA selected for the devices. The Quantum drive was from a Showstopper/ReplayTV unit. Does the 5400rpm really slow it down that much? Or is there something else that could be slowing it down? What's a good software to use to do a quick test? I just want to make sure it's not the CPU or board, before my return period ends on Sat. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like tomorrow for Duvie

Sucks to be a (whats the word Im lookin for?)

--deployed 100 (yeh 100) Compaq EVO D150c PC's at work today....I did some spot checks with CPU-Z....everyone I checked was a 2.4B C1 stepping....and all the PC's are 2.4B's..so I assume they are all C1's... Id feel bad if I swapped a 100-C1's for 100-B0's

No it didn't show up today....It is in portland but didn't end up on a truck...

no big deal if it is a b0 I will sell it for a minimal loss as unopened and try again...I will get a c1 and settle for no less...

Did it give you the not scheduled for delivery garbage or just "in FedEx location"?

Everyone is going on about the 2.4....will the 2.53 not overclock as high?

How high an overclock (assuming a good chip) can you get with an Asus P4PE? Any experience with that one?
