I'm not some teenage kid who drives like an ass that gets a deserving ticket. I completely sympathize with general ATOT mentality that you should pay up IF you've been a retard.

I got a ticket on I-90 in the bumfuck nowhere in upstate NY en route to Niagara Falls. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, there were about 3 cars on the countryside stretch.

My car was set on 75mph cruise on perma-65mph zone and coming down a hill, my car hit 80mph. The douchy looking cop gave me the EXACT ticket for 80mph on 65mph.

I was not swerving left and right.
I was not swapping lanes like a maniac
I have a perfect driving record/point.

Man I'm so fucking furious. I was pissed off for the remaining half of day. WHOSE LIFE DID I ENDANGER? There are like FOUR cars on highway on a perfectly straight road. Was I being reckless? Was I going 85, 90, 95+ mph? I'd gladly STFU and pay the ticket if I was being the dumbshits you see on the road.

God it still pisses me off. I'm seriously debating to drive 2.5 hours each way just to fight this ticket.

Did the sign say 65 unless there <4 cars on the road, or did it just say 65?

Come on, 80 you're going to get nailed.

Try sticking to within 1-2 mph of the limit.

are you being serious? I seriously can't tell. 1-2 mph over the speed limit will get you run off the road here in NJ. Traffic moves at 10-15 mph over speed limit here. Usually the huge backups and traffic jams during rush hour are caused by some douchebag going the speed limit.

I can't get a roll-eyes emoticon big enough at the holier than thou attitude here.

And OP, I too got a ticket on my way back from Niagara Falls even though I was following traffic flow. Cops look out for out of state drivers in bumblefuck places because they know no one would ever bother driving back up to contest it.

*shrug* if everyone else wants to get together and pay any tickets I incur, or if the state would like to guarantee in writing no tickets for going the speed everyone else wants to go, I'll go faster. Until those two events occur, I'm doing the limit, and anyone who doesn't like it is free to get themselves shot trying to force me.

I'm totally with you OP. I see no problem whatsoever with doing 80 in a 65 if you're not driving like a jackass.

I got a ticket for the exact same thing at the exact same place it sounds like.

I tried to fight it by mail, and they asked me if id plead guilty to a lesser offense "ignoring a traffic sign" I said yes and plead guilty, a week later I got a ticket for $330 in the mail and still got a point instead of the $200 2 point it originally was.

C'mon guys, we've all been in the OP's shoes. Who here has NEVER sped in their entire lives? Who here has gotten mad at cars going at the exact speed limit in the left hand lane?

I have been in OP's shoes but you won't see me bitch about it. I accept the risk of getting a ticket anytime I go over the limit (which I almost always do 10-15 over).

Also, radar detector is your friend. It won't let you drive like a retard, but the chance of getting those 10-15 over tickets can be easily reduced if you have one.

Good thing my car is smart enough to downshift to prevent such cruise control speed variations...

Okay, so you admit that you were legitimately going 80 in a 65 zone. Anyway you cut it, it's 15 over and it warrants a ticket, by the book.

I know you're mad, but the cop isn't psychic. He didn't know you were going at a smooth 75 and then just sped up on the hill. Besides, 75 is pushing it.

Next time, set the cruise control on a lower speed, so you can work in that 5 mph room for error

The cops know very well that most cars gain a few mph downhill...they aren't set up there by chance...

Upstate NY is horrible for tickets. So many tiny ass towns that for some reason have a lot of cops, who do nothing but sit on the interstate handing out tickets.

I was driving back from Virginia going north, just passed Albany, a guy came up fast behind me (I was in the left lane, a car was to my right), I sped up to get past the car and get into the right lane, to let this guy behind me keep going.

We both got pulled over, they tried to tell me I was doing 85, at the same time they were ticketing him for 75 (we were doing the same speed). Finally admitted they clocked me at 74 and left it at that. I think it was Bradford or some place like that.

Sound BS to me.

The reason why cops don't pull you over for around 10 over is because there is not only a range of detection and error (with their equipment and also most cars' speedos), but also because the fine imposed by the small speed over is not enough to cover the average court and police officer pay cost (where they get paid to sit their asses in court and tell the Judge you were speeding).

Hitting the brakes is for the second clock (they like to get two readings). And also to warn other drivers behind you. Which tends to create a chain warning reaction that stops anyone from getting ticketed in that trap area. :whiste:

I know when I see someone way in front of me brake for no reason, I brake. But you'll never catch me driving carelessly because I watch the road like a hawk. Unless I'm preoccupied in which case I mosey over to the right lane and enjoy the brainless 55 mph.

What's the point midway between laughing and facepalming?

That's about where I am right now.

Try this OP.

Middle of nowhere in Texas. Interstate. Speed limit 70. Get pulled over for 76 mph. Ticket for full amount. $100+. Trooper wants me to get out of car. Fine. Then he wants to search my trunk. I didn't make a thread about it. Suck it up and move on.

I think my point was that doing something wrong and doing something illegal are not one in the same, which your post that I quoted seemed to imply.

You are not supposed to break the law. so if you do you are doing something wrong which is illegal.

Breaking the law = Illegal = Doing something wrong.

How again are they not the same.

Don't drive over the speed limit on highways/freeways/anywhere if you don't want a speeding ticket. Please stay in the left-most lane and drive at less than 65. Preferably 55 just to be safe.
SLKJDF:LKJSDFL:KJ YOU DIE NOW

Also, lol @ this thread. Guy breaks the law then wonders why he gets a ticket for breaking the law.

And there isn't a single person in the world who does not speed. Well, maybe 42.
Come to Edmonton, Canada. The drivers here are stupid as fuck. If the speed limit is 90km/h, they'll go 70km/h just to piss me off. I would say at least half of the people in this city drive way below the speed limit. Maybe one quarter drive at or slightly above the speed limit (includes me). Then the last quarter is people who go way over the speed limit like the OP was.

If interracial marriage were illegal where you live, would that make it wrong? Legality and morality are definitely separate.
