[update 9/9/10]
I'm bored so I thought I'd bore you all with a lame update. I called the court directly and some pleasant lady picked up. She said the town is such a bumfuck nowhere, Magistrate appears once a month. She says they Will offer no-point & fine reduction if you simply please not guilty. I guess many people simply just pay up. She also informed that all this can be handled via mail, no need to show up in person. So I mailed it in pleading not guilty. Wish me luck, or screw you to those internet high-horses. I will update again on result.

I'm not some teenage kid who drives like an ass that gets a deserving ticket. I completely sympathize with general ATOT mentality that you should pay up IF you've been a retard.

I got a ticket on I-90 in the bumfuck nowhere in upstate NY en route to Niagara Falls. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, there were about 3 cars on the countryside stretch.

My car was set on 75mph cruise on perma-65mph zone and coming down a hill, my car hit 80mph. The douchy looking cop gave me the EXACT ticket for 80mph on 65mph.

I was not swerving left and right.
I was not swapping lanes like a maniac
I have a perfect driving record/point.

Man I'm so fucking furious. I was pissed off for the remaining half of day. WHOSE LIFE DID I ENDANGER? There are like FOUR cars on highway on a perfectly straight road. Was I being reckless? Was I going 85, 90, 95+ mph? I'd gladly STFU and pay the ticket if I was being the dumbshits you see on the road.

God it still pisses me off. I'm seriously debating to drive 2.5 hours each way just to fight this ticket.

You admit your car was up to 80 in a 65, you admit that you were intentionally doing 75 in a 65 and you think it's other people who are asses and retards? ROFL!!! Yeah, you go ahead and fight the ticket.

Don't drive over the speed limit on highways/freeways/anywhere if you don't want a speeding ticket. Please stay in the left-most lane and drive at less than 65. Preferably 55 just to be safe.

The Troopers are giving out tickets evrywhere along the highway up here. I sure wouldn't have been going even 70.

And you deserved it for driving like an idiot.

Not sure what you expect when you're going 15 MPH over the limit. :hmm:

Somehow 5 mph past 80mph arbitrarily becomes reckless!!!

Hahhaa.

I'd do 120 all day long just to see your reaction. :whiste:

If you wish to drive fast, you must pay the tax to Escort Inc or petition USA pussies to grow some balls like German Autobahns.

You live in a state run by irresponsible politicians, second only to CA, that is hurting for cash and you speed? You are not too bright.

I feel your pain.

It really is ridiculous that speeding tickets have basically become a general tax on drivers, instead of what they should be: a punishment for endangering other drivers.

I mean, the cars we have today are lightyears ahead of the stuff we were driving in the 1960's. A modern minivan handles better and stops in a shorter distance than any 60's muscle/sports car, yet the speed limits have actually been lowered since then.

I once got a ticket from a cop in an unmarked car who was following me for several miles on the highway. I think I was doing 80. It was a clear day, light traffic, and I was just cruising in the left lane. I had moved over to the center lane a couple times, thinking that the car following me was just someone who wanted to pass (it was some car you'd never expect to be a cop... like a nissan pickup or something).

Anyway, I finally get to my destination and take the offramp. Suddenly this guy is pulling me over and giving me a ticket. When I asked him why he didn't pull me over sooner, he said he wanted to see if I would go any faster.

Public safety was the last thing on his mind. If he thought he was "protecting and serving", he would have pulled me over when he first saw me driving over the speed limit. Apparently it's OK to risk the lives of other motorists (the justification for speed limits), though, for the chance at increasing a speeding fine.

I appealed the ticket and was denied. Logic and discretion doesn't work, all they care about is whether or not you broke the law. I'd suggest you save yourself the 5 hour drive.

While I agree with your sentiment, you aren't going to get much sympathy here.

There is a reason the cop was shooting the hill. Do you think he cares whether a car is going 80MPH because your foot is on it or not? Nope. You were still going 80MPH.

One could argue that you should get a ticket for careless driving because you were not paying attention to your surroundings and your car.

10 over is pushing your luck, anyway. When I was a courier driver, I always kept the cruise at 9 over. I was never pulled over once in the 100,000 miles I drove, even as everyone around me slowed down to the speed limit when the cop came into view(hint: it's already way too late at that point..). Later, I dated someone that was friends with some peeps in the Seattle PD. She said their motto was, "9 your fine, 10 your mine.", and that has certainly held true for me.

Sound BS to me.

The reason why cops don't pull you over for around 10 over is because there is not only a range of detection and error (with their equipment and also most cars' speedos), but also because the fine imposed by the small speed over is not enough to cover the average court and police officer pay cost (where they get paid to sit their asses in court and tell the Judge you were speeding).

Let me explain this to you slowly:

Speeding tickets are not a general tax on drivers. Speeding tickets are a specifically targeted tax on drivers who speed. Even though this is ATOT I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you can understand the difference between those two things.

Or am I giving you too much credit?

Yea.. I'm just raging because you see fucking dumbshits that drive like utter cunts on the road (tailgating, swerving, recklessness and outright flooring at 100mph) that didn't get a ticket.

Fucking a.

Try sticking to within 1-2 mph of the limit.

Huh? Aren't you basically validating what I said? They don't pull you over for lower overages because it's not worth it....

I believe her, she had no reason to lie about it. It could have just been one officer's motto for all I know, but it has held true for me at least a dozen times.

I always thought that hitting your brakes when you see the cop made you look even more guilty. I always just left the cruise on, 74 in a 65 on I5 in Oregon and I have never had a problem. The only time I've been pulled over when I was doing well over 10MPH over, lol.

Actually, You just described a general tax. That's like saying it's a tax targetted at all mammals who are humans.

Well fuck, everyone who drives happen to be humans.

And there isn't a single person in the world who does not speed. Well, maybe 42.

Do0d, the Staties just sit and wait up there for over-entitled guys like you and they feast off them. You fucked up and now you're paying the price. Sucks, but there it is.

For years in my job, I used to speed like a mofo just about everywhere but I was hyper-vigilant about it and somehow NEVER got a ticket.

You can't just set your cruise to "speeding" and then complain.
