UN votes resoundingly reject Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as capital

I'm glad that Canada listened to Ambassador Haley and abstained, I wouldn't want to have to punish our retarded little brother up north.

How much support again? Oh yeah, you managed to pay off Togo, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Marshall Islands, Guatemala and Honduras. Congratulations on another huuuuge win. You must be a happy little fascista today. So much world respect. Trump will be dancing in his shit tonight.

In certain respects it's just recognition of reality. Israel's actions on the ground have made a two state solution impossible. They never had any intention of such a thing coming to pass & they do not now. It also seems that the American people are comfortable with their ongoing expropriation of territory & relentless occupation & repression of the Palestinians, too.

Hasbara trolls have done their job well.

And acting like bullies just makes things so much better for all nations involved, right? Even Putin knows better than to pull that kind of crap.

Bullies act the way they do because they have no other skill at their disposal to move things in their direction. There's no finesse, no forethought, no chess skills, no noth'in, it's straight out of Kim Jung ul's playbook. Only difference here is Kim's words carry the power of life and death whereas Trump's words as POTUS don't.

In the case of Trump, his notoriety for making empty threats is known world-wide. He's used it so many times in his business dealings much like huge corporations use their deep pockets as cudgels against little mom and pop businesses threatening to bankrupt them with endless lawsuits.

This all goes right back to Trump defaulting to his experience as an self-described master of the deal when doing that now repeatedly gets in him in trouble because those tactics have no crossover value for the job he has now. He's used to dealing from a position of power and when he can't play that way he simply moves on until he can. That can't be done in the position he's now in.

Well the world don't work that way, yet there he is stuck in a rut, not knowing how to adapt and improvise in order to advance the interests of the nation he now leads. In that insulated world he built around himself, he was able to control all aspects of those things that affected his daily life.

IMO, what he's attempting to do at the moment is to fit the real world into the one he built for himself in which he is lord and master of and he's refusing to believe that it just can't be done. Ergo, he's progressively isolating himself and thus the nation he leads trying to force his concocted reality to overcome the real one he doesn't know how deal with.

This,

Prior to the vote, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al Malki referenced the US threat that it was "taking names" of those who vote in favor of the measure.

"History records names, it remembers names — the names of those who stand by what is right and the names of those who speak falsehood. Today we are seekers of rights and peace," he told the General Assembly.

I'm not a huge fan of the UN, but anything they do to embarass Donald is just fine by me.

Of course, Donald and his rabid fans are too stupid & selfish to ever be embarrassed so there that.

Why didn't they vote? Supported the US by not voting against.

We should cut their aid immediately as support is a two way street. Sometimes you lend support and others you request it and by not doing anything they basically washed their hands of the matter. When they need something they will once again turn to us for it and we need to abstain from providing it in response.

Israel has the right to name whatever they want for their capital and we or any other nation for that matter has the right to recognize their decision. With so much internal corruption at the UN its hard to take anything they say seriously.

What corruption would that be?

Because in international relations you never get everything you want. We should support other countries if their actions on the whole are better for us, not if they support us on everything. This was a dumb and childish move on Trump’s part and it just served to embarrass the US and make us look weak.

He seriously needs to stop trying his hand at international relations. He’s gotten rolled by every country he’s tried to make a deal with or intimidate.

I mean this is basically the definition of whataboutism. There are tons of good reasons to criticize Syria and Venezuela but that doesn’t make them wrong when they say the US’s decision here was bad.
Countries such as those mentioned don't have any credibility to make such a statement. Its like condemning the neighbors for setting their house on fire when yours is burning behind you while you say it.

That’s exactly the argument the Soviet Union made for half a century when people criticized its human rights abuses.

Is what they said true? Yes. If we know what they said is true who cares who said it? The source only matters when the veracity of the information or argument is in doubt.

What about UK, France and Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland? Do these countries apply?

How petty to throw a party an invite everyone who voted for you or abstained. This is literally grade school shit that now stands as US foreign policy.

Take a good look at that list and then lets talk "punitive measures" or withdrawing aid.
dumbasses all around

"Military aid includes military financing, which our allies use to buy weapons, funding intended to advance counterterrorism and anti-narcotics initiatives, and money spent on efforts related to military operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and other nations."

Who is getting the most?
In terms of regions, the Middle East and North Africa receive the most of the economic assistance.

The Sub-Saharan Africa region receives $US1.2 billion — 25.32 per cent of the budget.

In terms of individual countries, the following receive the most in economic [not security] aid:

  • Afghanistan ($US650,000,000)
  • Jordan ($US635,800,000)

In terms of security aid, the countries receiving the most help are:

And so setting your house on fire thus becomes a good choice?
The thing about hypocrisy is that it doesn't change the truth value of what the hypocrite says.

(I feel the same way when my fat doctor suggests I take more exercise!)

Welp, now it's up to Trump to put his (our) money where his mouth is. He said he would cut aid if they voted for the resolution and it looks like some of the biggest receivers of American foreign aid voted for it. Let's see how full of **** this president really is.

What happens to your credibility when you make threats and never follow through? Does that make future threats more or less effective?
