And this is why marriage & children are so fail.

You're an idiot. Shit happens, people get divorced. It's the judge who took a bad situation and made it infinitely worse by imposing legal ass rape on the guy for child support.

Yep, hopefully the crazy judge gets canned. But probably she won't.

That child support SUCKS. My wife's father is a divorce attorney, and he says that judges typically use your earning potential to determine child support. So if he has the potential to earn six figures, he's going to take it up the A. The only real crime here is that he blew her face off in front of the kid.

So true. Frankly, I find the judge culpable in the crime.

and thats just as stupid as the judge basing her decision on mold and the kid rideing his bike.

teh guy is guilty of murder. he should pay for that. I don't think any (besides the idiots) are going to say he should get away with it. What we are saying is we understand why. The system is broken and needs to be fixed.

Anyone else try to imagine how the argument broke out in the first place?

Victim: "I don't have $920 to give you each month... why did you pursue this?!"
Her: "The judge says you have to pay so you have to pay!!!11one"
Victim: "I know what the judge said - but this is YOU AND ME talking - you know I can't afford that!"
Her: "The judge says you have to pay so you have to pay!!!11five"
Victim: "You're not hearing me: I KNOW WHAT THE JUDGE SAID. I'm not saying I don't *HAVE* to pay, I'm saying you're not being reasonable!"
Her: "The judge says you owe me that money so you're paying!"
Victim: "You couldn't spend $920/month on him even if you tried!"
Her: "The judge says you owe me thBANG!!!"
Victim: "There's your $920/month, BEEEEEYOTCH!"

Very true. Wouldn't it be great if this somehow triggered a national reform of child support and divorce laws?

This is very sad.

Just recently a close friend of mine took his own life leaving behind 2 kids after the exact same thing happened in his divorce proceeding.

He was an employee of Ford Motor and got laid off from a 6 figure job. Out of work for over a year and unable to find work he took a job making 60k or so. During the court proceeding the judge made the alimony/child support based on his higher earnings of the past.

He was very depressed facing unpayable support payments and ended up taking his own life.

Basically he was going to be put in jail for being unable to pay support on money he couldn't even make anymore.

The system needs to be overhauled when it comes to support.

I was unemployed for a period and the county wanted to throw me in jail. I spent every last dime out of savings and even cashed out my 401k to pay child support, but they thought I needed to be taught a lesson. Brilliant plan. I'll be able to find a great job while I'm doing time.

The system is fucked.

I always knew you were a piece of dog shit, thanks for confirming!

The only better outcome would have been if you were killed in the crossfire, asshole.

the idea is to jail those that refuse to pay. One of my wife's friends got knocked up early (17) and the guy took off. well something like 10 yrs later she got kicked off a lot of public welfare type programs. So she filled for child support.

the guy quit his job and flat out refused to pay (his new wife makes like 100k a yr so they can afford it) anything. I have no trouble putting a jerk like that in jail.

now i do agree if you lose your job and are having a hard time finding another (and thats happening more and more) you shouldnt go to jail for that.

The real crime is that he fucked up the whole families future, to correct a temporary wrong. Now he's in jail, the ex is in a grave, and the kid will be in therapy forever. What a tragic waste. The thing most lacking when in this frame of mind is perspective. You are in shit city today, but tomorrow is a new day. Once you do something like this, any chance of things getting better is gone.

I wonder why you friend didn't shoot the judge first.

Everyone is at fault here including the judge. Dumb judged, scorned ex wife and pissed off husband. Like lighting a fire in the middle of a gun powdered room with dynamites and and still trying to light the fire.

and reading the history of the judge it seems that teh judge has a history of stupid mistakes and not really paying attention.

True, but when you've hit rock bottom like that, it's impossible to see any positive possibilities the future may hold.

I understand that, I've been there. It's just sad that no one saw what was happening until it was too late. I spent 2+ years thinking about killing myself after my divorce. When you're in that place nothing seems to have value anymore. But to anyone who is paying attention, the change is obvious. In his case, having already tried once, alarms should have been going off everywhere. Anyone in that frame of mind is dangerous, and unpredictable.

+1

A guy murders his ex-wife and the only outrage is over his child support payments. I fucking hate you guys.

If he hadn't been so screwed by the system he might not have been so outraged as to take her life. While he did wrong, the judge and system are very much to blame as well.

Bullshit. Suddenly the people who are all about personal responsibility are trying to distribute blame when it's about the money. Murder is one thing, but a man's money is off limits, am I right?

I'm not defending the judge or wife either, divorce and child custody law are all kinds of fucked.

Like I said, he was wrong and should face full punishment...that doesn't change the fact that part of the reason he did it was the faulty system and the order from that judge. I think it's VITAL that the judge know that, and live with it the rest of her life to prevent bad decisions in the future.

Having been through messy divorce and custody issues I know what its like to have your life irrevocably destroyed by court order. I somehow managed to keep from killing my ex, the judge, and everyone else involved, but I had to make it a CONSTANT conscious effort to keep from doing so. Had I given in I would have deserved any punishment I received, but the REASON for me doing it would have remained largely the events of my life which were beyond my control.

BS. You choose your ex. Next time, get one with the sanity option.

So for that mine, my families, my friends, and my daughters lives are ruined? No, that's excessive. Yes I married her, but I made the choice to get the fuck out and tried to rescue my daughter. What happened after that was totally beyond my control.

any woman can easily piss away $920 in a month. especially when she figures out how to pay ALL the bills on her paycheck, more or less, and treat it as fun money or uses it to buy a new car.

we will sooner see legalized marijuana than CS/Divorce reform.

i disagree with this. a spouse should *not* be penalized for the actions of the SO. her husband should be locked up if she doesnt want to help make the payments, but she shouldnt be held responsible for something she didnt do.

i actually had custody for a year (i wont get into how it happened, long, fucked up story) and the ex agreed to pay *me* child support at a certain, surprisingly high (at her offer, no less) amount for that year. her situation changed drastically and we agreed privately on what she would pay.

i never harassed her or aggravated her or threatened her about money.she even offered to pay after her new husband got a paycheck, and i wouldnt take it. i let her pay me later when she had the money.

now she doesnt work, popped out 2 kids with the new guy (so my two, and his one from another marriage, and their two...equals 5), and still nags me for money. its awesome.

/i gotta get out of this thread

this is like the major talk here...irvine isn't known for crime you know. last time i remember this happened was in park west a few years back with some homocide. otherwise cops typically pull over people in pairs because irvine is so mellow

That's like saying this murder was the woman's fault because she chose a homicidal husband.

Next time, she should get one with the sanity option!
