Of course the embassy in Libya was not attacked. It was a much smaller consulate building in Benghazi which absolutely was not protected by Marines and only apparently protected by State Department security personnel (on top of Libyan security in the area.)Every US embassy is protected by the Marines. I have yet to hear why the Marine Corp guards with heavy arms weren't able to dispel 20 militants. I have a feeling it was probably more than 20 militants.
There are always consequences to every act.
Note I said that there are limitations on speech, but the courts haven't forbidden everything which has the potential of negative consequences. That's why chose the words I did. The courts have not determined that films about Mohammed, however distasteful, meet the criteria for censorship you would have.
So we have a clash of two societies. One which allows offensive expression (I note "Piss Christ" as an example) which may have adverse consequences and another where merely having a painting of Mohammed merits punishment. Granted this went beyond that, but the possible consequences of a pictorial representation of Mohammed may result in havoc. Shall we ban them? Punish South Park? If the criteria for censorship is that something might offend another and then murder results, then I'm all for the fight. Note I rarely say such things, but I will not be cowed.
Listened to the right wing echo chamber earlier and they are positively frothy over this story
Too much fun when the rabid eighties get their tightly whiteys in a twist!!
The death of an ambassador is fun as long as the people you politically oppose are upset about it?
What world do I live in???
There was a time when such actions were a declaration of war...
There's no need for more war. We just need to abandon them to their self imposed dark age. No more foreign aid, no more diplomatic relations, just punitive economic and military action if they try to act out.
...another try, another failed pic...
...and now he goes on camera smirking and smiling about it.
After the attack, our U.S. Embassy in Cairo responded by saying it "condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims - as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions."
Meanwhile 3 die in Libya.
